New Megadeth in June of '13

Here's a pic of the actual large Hadron Collider (aka Super Collider) that took me all of a minute to find online.



Looks like they took this photo (or one very similiar) added a lens flare to it, slapped on the Megadeth logo and called it a day. That's both lazy & lame. In my opinion of course.

Throw Vic in there, sitting behind the controls, operating the thing. Or maybe show the atoms supercolliding and the end result is Vic. Something. Anything.

EDIT: I see SD beat me to the punch on the pic, but you catch my drift. Lame.

Here ya go. It's still shitty.

Here, try this one. Put Vic in place of that guy at the bottom, with a few technicians running around on the scafolding. Boom! Done.



I guess if Dave's releasing this album on his own label, budget cuts must be made somewhere.

I'm guessing they gave them about $25 to come up with a cover and if they came in under budget they got free ice cream.

If he wanted to save a few bucks, just open up a contest for fans to design the new cover. He did it for United Abominations and other bands have picked up on the trend. Free artwork and all it will cost you is maybe a signed print of the final product and a meet-n-greet.

Good art doesn't have to be expensive.

I honestly see nothing wrong with the cover as it stands. It's a super collider on the cover of an album called "Super Collider". Should it be a picture of a toaster?

With downloads being what they are I think cover art isn't a priority anymore.

Nor does it have to be (see my above comment on the free fan-submitted stuff). I'm just saying it's lazy and could have been better.

Sadly, that's probably true.

It's horrible, worse than the first release of Killing. Too many shitty rainbow colors, photoshop sun spots, cheap font, and the image of Vic's head is lazy. Usually Vic is doing something but all we get is a cheap mugshot. Really hoping the music isn't going to be on par with this crap art.

I think the contest idea they used on Abominations should be protocol for all metal bands. Fans will always remember the days when album art was a serious thing. Now it's a wasted aesthetic.

That cover is weak. And the added lens flare is horrible. The saddest part about that cover is, they probably paid some digital artist like $2,000 for it.

Anyway, song clip is also unimpressive, but it's also not long enough to give an accurate opinion.

Cool riff, but it sounds VERY similar to Ultimatum's One For All.

My thought process on the term "super collider" in relation to Megadeth would be dudes wearing superman outfits and getting busy in a mosh pit

By the way, Scott...love that tune

I jam on it with the drums as a warm up. Lots of lil things in it to keep the chops up

Sorry, Spectre. That's what I get for skipping str8 to the last page of the thread with no regard to context. I have to say it does look a hair better than what Dave was aiming for.

Still trying to figure out why he (speaking loosely here) ditched Vic after Rust. Yeah, I know he came back for a couple albums, but they didn't have that same comic book feel that the earlier albums had.

In all fairness neither did "killing" or "so far..." Really only three album covers feature that look (peace, rust, system) out of 14. Yeah peace and rust are pretty cool and iconic, they are far out numbered by deth records that have totally different aesthetics.

finally got a chance to listen to the new Deth snippet. Not much to go on, but it sounds riffy enough for starters...

Slap a Megadeth logo and the title on this picture (in colors that didn't clash or blend into obscurity),and you would have a much better cover.

Good point, I never looked at it that way.

I think it's worth talking about Johnny Z returning to produce this one. IMO, the guy is horrible, is more of a nu metal mindset, and totally wrecked Thirteen. He even ruined Enuff Z'nuff even though their songs were in tight form. I also blame him for putting such a bad taste for Machine Head in my mouth that I have great difficulty listening to them anymore. It's a shame he's being brought back. I can only hope he'll turn up the guitars some.

And for God's sake, people, avoid shortening your last name down to a single letter; it's the douchiest form of self-importance one could practice.

I honesty never listened to Thirteen all the way through, the balance of the mix was so bad I just found it too distracting to tolerate.
