Another one that most people hate but I absolutely love. And regarding Turbo, I am just a fan of synthesizers and keyboards. I liked their glammed up sound (to use the description most use--even if I disagree with the term..it's not like they sound like Poison on this record). I can get why people aren't into it, though. I just dig it. And Painkiller, depending on the type of metal fan, I guess, is pretty highly regarded. I've known many who would count it among their favorite JP albums, if not their favorite. I also love Defenders of the Faith, though. I'd probably rank that third for them.

Me to! Turbo is my absolute favorite priest album. I wish they would have done more in this style. Painkiller and ram it down were both albums I hated. Even British steel was just ok to me. My other favorite priest album would be Point Of Entry...another album many hardcore fans didn't care for. I loved the iron maiden albums with the synthesizers on them as well.

| Point Of Entry has a bunch of great songs on it. Turning Circles (one of my favorite Priest songs), Heading Out To The Highway, Desert Plains (another favorite), Solar Angels, You Say Yes, All The Way (which has a Rolling Stones like vibe to it), Troubleshooter. Even Hot Rockin is good silly fun.
I'd much rather listen to Point Of Entry than Painkiller.

Point of Entry is 1000x better than Turbo but it was a disappointment on release and is a weaker Priest album. It's not the worst but it's below average. Your dislike of Painkiller is baffling.

Your dislike of Painkiller is baffling. I don't think it's "below average", it's just not in the top 5. I also like the fact that it wasn't overplayed. Painkiller doesn't sound like Priest to me, I just don't like the sudden 180 degree turn into a speed metal band. It just came off as WAY too calculated. "Oh, Ram It Down was really boring and we sound old...better jump on the speed metal bandwagon!" Mr. Scott "robo drums" Travis is one of the main reasons I don't like it that much. I'm also not a big fan of Defenders Of The Faith, there are some really good songs (The Sentinel, Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker) but overall they started dumbing themselves down a little too much on that album. Lunkhead metal.

| I like 'Point of Entry' but don't love it, but overall great album but considering what the Priest had released prior to these albums, it is somewhat disappointing.
I love 'Painkiller', granted that Halford's lyrics are not not exactly making him the Bob Dylan of the metal world, but still love the album.
BTW IMO the best drummer Judas Priest ever had was Les Binks, not that anybody asked

Ah. Okay. Painkiller was a breath of fresh air to me. The band sounded pissed off following their trial and finally had a more than competent, if not outright excellent, drummer. Also, Turbo is such a huge sellout album to the gods of commercialism that any calculation in Painkiller pales in comparison. Defenders sounds no different than Screaming to me, so much so that they could have been recorded in the same session. Point of Entry was a misstep by the band following British Steel which they quickly corrected on Screaming. It does have some classics on it though as you mentioned. Can we at least agree that Turbo is god awful and is best forgotten? Parental Guidance induces vomiting far more effectively than syrup of ipecac.

I like War of Words for what it is - a combo of Priest and Pantera. A Small Deadly Space was crap.

| Turbo sucks. Ram It Down sucks. Painkiller has a few songs I like, but overall I'm not a fan and haven't owned a copy since 1996.
Defenders.
The good: The Sentinel, Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker (all on side one)
The mediocre: Some Heads Are Gonna Roll, Rock Hard, Ride Free, Night Comes Down
The painfully stupid: Love Bites, Eat Me Alive, Heavy Duty/Defenders Of The Faith
The songwriting on Screaming For Vengeance is much better. I was really disappointed by Defenders when it first came out. SFV I just worshipped when it came out, I played it every single day for months and months. Defenders just sounded like it was a less energetic, less inspired knock-off.
My "metal allegiance" switched from the Priest camp to the Maiden camp after Defenders.

| Turbo is the only Priest I don't like at all, that's not Priest to my ears. I like Defender quite a bit though as you point out, some of those songs are so painfully bad it's almost embarrassing. Screaming is their pinnacle, man I wore that tape out in about 6 months. | |

| We recorded a local Seattle metal band for a class project in college (Abusement Park - one of the dumbest band names in history). The professor asked the group to bring in an album they liked the production sound on so we could have a gauge of what they were looking for. They brought in "A Small Deadly Space". We played a track from the album for the class. The professor walked up to me and whispered in my ear "this is going to suck REAL bad!" |

I agree with STRYPER and KEEL. I think STREETS OF ROCK N ROLL is not totaly a bad album (no modern influences at least on it) but some songs are not very good. About REBORN, it was just to modern. The last one is much better. I didnt buy yet the last RECKLESS LOVE album. Is ANIMAL ATTRACTION very different from their debut????. About BARK AT THE MOON, its one of my fave albums by OZZY and the AC/DC and TED NUGENT albums are not bad either imo of couse. I enjoy the newest Reckless Love a lot. I think it is better than the debut - better music that is catchier. _________________

| I remember getting Holy Soldier 'Promise Man' and being very excited to listen to it. I got home, turned on the stereo and was floored by the music. It was horrible.... I ejected the cd to make sure someone hadnt put the wrong cd in the case. _________________ | |

| Dream Theater's Images and Words. I bought the CD because I thought the song "Pull Me Under" was great, but thought the rest of the record sounded more like music lessons than songs. I thought the rest of the record would be as heavy. Boy, was I wrong. | |

| I was recently disapointed Hysterica - The art of metal. I was excited when I found it and expeced something like their debut Metalwar which was great Heavy Metal. Unfortuneately they changed their sound radically. They added keyboards and became much more soft. They sound more like a symphonic/gothic metal band than the fresh Heavy Metal that I liked on their debut.
