| Your discs still haven't arrived yet.
My original idea for disc 1 was doom metal and then it went all over the place... I settled on mostly a prog metal theme.

My original idea for disc 1 was doom metal and then it went all over the place... I settled on mostly a prog metal theme. No worries. If they haven't turned up to you by this coming weekend, let me know. I'll burn another set and send them again. It's all good, matey. That's what I actually enjoy about these swaps; you get exposed to new stuff and often end up finding new bands to explore further. Actually, I'm a bit nervous about what you're gonna think of what's coming your way from me. The first disc from you did was quite varied, both of my discs are gonna end up looking like one-trick ponies... _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

It's one thing to not post a review; I get it, people are busy. But to not even send anything after agreeing to participate? I find that inexcusable. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Mine was sent out weeks ago. I was just thinking you were experiencing the same delay in delivery as I usually do with international delivery. Let me know and I will remake the disc and send it out.

It's one thing to not post a review; I get it, people are busy. But to not even send anything after agreeing to participate? I find that inexcusable. I am busy, but I was actually going to post this tonight. Honest. Even without your kind endorsement. Disc 1 - Metal The Filthy & The Few - Orange Goblin "Heard of this band, but never actually took the time to search them up. Like what I heard. Solid." The Day The Music Died - MD.45 "I actually own the original cd version of this with the other guy other Mustaine singing. That disc sounds punkier than this. " Death Potion- Early Man "Again, heard of this band, but never actually remember hearing them. Good tune. Especially cranked until the walls shake" Resurrected- Dominance "Never heard of these guys at all. This tune has some nice thrashy speed to it. A very strong late eighties feel to it. I like it." Monster- Flotsam & Jetsam "Even though I like Eric A.K.'s vocals, I never followed F&J after the No Place For Disgrace. Lots of groove, but not the thrash band they were. Is this the sound they are playing with now?" Different Breed - Dead On "Another band that sounds like what I would have been blasting in the late eighties. Puts a smile on my face." Tres Brujas-The Sword "Allright. I do not not mind this tune, but it struck me the least off of all on this disc." Into The Night -Iommi "Billy Idol sounds great on this. I know this tune/disc already. I always thought to myself that Tony wrote this tune for Danzig, but could only get Idol to do it." Go Day Glo- Rollins Band "Don't mind this tune. Rollins is hit and miss with me, this is a hit with me, sort of" Devil On A Hog - Bruce Dickinson "Know this. Love this. Solo Bruce is fantastic." Thicker Than Blood - Death Angel "Unlike F&J, I have followed Death Angel since the eighties and still like the catalog. These last few releases have been killer" I Hate You - My Sister's Machine "Not familiar at all with these guys. More along the lines of the non thrash stuff I was listening to in the nineties. I may check out more." Curl Of The Burl - Mastodon "I like this band and their music." Evil Joe - Racer X "Another band and song that I am familiar with. I love Racer X, and have followed their stuff and enjoy it all. I hope they bring back Bruce Bouillet for a future album as I enjoy his playing along side Paul. " Dystopia - Iced Earth "Great tune. Love this new album. Great band live." Tribe - Gruntruck "Another band I have no knowledge of. Don't mind the tune, but nothing that piques my interest to check out more." Timeless Winter - Into Eternity "Another band I am familiar with. Great live act. Good tune." Like A Beating - Re:Ignition "I really like this tune. Not at all familiar with the band, but this tune has a very melodic punk vibe that I like, reminds me of the music of the band Samiam." Still I Rise - Shadows Fall "Not a band I own anything from, but this is a very catchy tune. I may check more into them." Revenge - Tom Araya(w/Rollins Band) "Short but sweet fast punk rock. I like it." Will post a disc two review later.

That's what I figured. They're probably sitting in a bin somewhere in the US customs office. I'm still holding out that they'll show up in my in-box one of these days. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part. I've added a few comments. - metalken wrote:
Death Potion- Early Man "Again, heard of this band, but never actually remember hearing them. Good tune. Especially cranked until the walls shake" These guys should be as popular as The Sword and any other retro-sounding metal band out there, but success still seems to be eluding them. 2 full albums and an ep all worth tracking down.
Resurrected- Dominance "Never heard of these guys at all. This tune has some nice thrashy speed to it. A very strong late eighties feel to it. I like it." You called it correctly. An overlooked gem from the 80's that was re-released through Tribunal Records. Worth getting.
Monster- Flotsam & Jetsam "Even though I like Eric A.K.'s vocals, I never followed F&J after the No Place For Disgrace. Lots of groove, but not the thrash band they were. Is this the sound they are playing with now?" More or less. This is from their mid-period. They started having thrashier moments again on their last coupla releases, but yea, the groove is still there.
Different Breed - Dead On "Another band that sounds like what I would have been blasting in the late eighties. Puts a smile on my face." This tune appeared on the "Shocker" movie soundtrack, but the whole album is very good melodic thrash, reminisent of Megadeth.
Go Day Glo- Rollins Band "Don't mind this tune. Rollins is hit and miss with me, this is a hit with me, sort of" I know the feeling. I've been a fan of Henry's writing and spoken word moreso than his music, but the album Get Some, Go Again was very consitant all the way through.
I Hate You - My Sister's Machine "Not familiar at all with these guys. More along the lines of the non thrash stuff I was listening to in the nineties. I may check out more." These guys were sorta overlooked during the grunge era. They were brought to my attention during the whole "Is Grunge is Metal" debate here.
Tribe - Gruntruck "Another band I have no knowledge of. Don't mind the tune, but nothing that piques my interest to check out more." See comment above
Like A Beating - Re:Ignition "I really like this tune. Not at all familiar with the band, but this tune has a very melodic punk vibe that I like, reminds me of the music of the band Samiam." Another grunge/metal hybrid that got overlooked in the mid-90's. Features Steev Esquivel of Skinlab and Defiance fame.
Revenge - Tom Araya(w/Rollins Band) "Short but sweet fast punk rock. I like it." From the album Rise Above: A Benfit for the West Memphis Three. Various artists covering Black Flag songs.

That is the original Alice In Chains guitar player's band. I think that he is the singer as well. It's a good album!

The first album has a distinct AiC vibe to it. Almost like lost-demos or something. The 2nd album moved in a slightly differnt direction, but also good. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Yea so is Martinsane.. He's got 1 cd left you think he would have finished it by now and its all cover songs..... There that should do it Ironically I have had this one ready for a few days now, but thanks for the ... Disc 6 and as my illustrious benefactor mentioned this is 18 tracks of some of the finest cover tunes these ears have heard. Again the * is for bands I have not heard of and for the record I have not heard any of these covers. Ravage-Be Quick Or Be Dead (Maiden) This band smokes straight up! And the singer wails. Great song and a killer cover! Wolf-A Dangerous Meeting (M. Fate) Same As Above! Vocals are ridiculously good and though not as high as the king, but still real good. Obviosly the song is a dinger and this version is too. Sabaton-Jawbreaker (J. Priest) Solid rendition, true to the original, but obviously the vocals can't touch RH's. Good cover by a solid band. *Solitude Aeturnus-Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath) Seriosly Dio-esque vocal stylings, mostly stays true to the source and done well. Grave Digger-Overkill (Moterhead) Vocals sound very Lemmy like and this version sounds quite nice and similar to the source. *Shaman-More (Sisters Of Mercy) Nice, nice cover. Groovy little 80's new wave-ish vibe w/monster metal guitars thrown in to remind you of why your there. Very cool and nicely done! Really dug this and the vocals are cool as heck. Rage-Beyond The Pale (Mission) Don't really recall this tune, but sounds cool, especially through head phones. The guitar tone is really cool! Michael Kiske-Kids Of The Sensory (Helloween) I really dig the acoustics on this version. Should relate to that acoustic tune thread here. The vocals are really frickin pleasant. Jon Olivia-Castle Burning (Savatage) Another acoustic affair done to the nines. Really quite good and again should be referred to the thread mentioned above. Blind Guardian-Don't Talk To Strangers (Dio) Obviosly BG is an epic band and this cover is anything, but epic! Super heavy rendition and a truly good cover. Vision Divine-Take On Me (AHA) The key parts are laughable at times, but the band is quite good at others. Interesting cover, I'd preferred it if they could have toned down the funny keys. Gwar-Schools Out (A. Cooper) Its Gwar so its good! Obviously Gwar can play and the version is good and doesn't deviate too far from the source, however some lyrical emelishments make this a true Gwar tune. XXX-I Want You To Want Me (Cheap Trick) THe band sounds good and their originals are, but this cover is just a shambles. Robin Zander is rolling over in his grave and he ain't even dead yet. Def Leppard-Don't Beleive A Word (Thin Lizzy) This cover smokes. Doesn't sound like Joe Elliot a whole lot. This tune could have slipped onto High N Dry easily. Nice! Pretty Maids-Hard Luck Women (KISS) I love Pretty Maids and you should too. They are amazing and they cover this Kiss tune amazingly well and makes this tune even more awesome! The voice is perfect. Freedom Call-Dr. Stein (Helloween) The band is quite good and this cover is a solid by the numbers cover. Pagan's Mind-At The Graves (K. Diamond) REAL GOOD COVER! This band smokes, the singer wails as well as the King, how could this fail. Well it doesn't. Sweet! Ramones-R.A.M.O.N.E.S. (Moterhead) It's the Ramones, they could have done an album of popping their knuckles and it would have rocked hard. OI! Thanks for the discs/tunes pal, I got turned onto a bunch of good stuff! Looking forwad to the next go around. Whoever gets my discs next time gets all the bands that start with "B".
