| I keep saying it over and over again..... This is all about exposing everyone to new bands whether it be the style you already listen to or a whole different style. My main genre is Metal but I also listen to other genres. Nothing too out of the ordinary but its definetly not Metal. Those bands will be included in my comps regardless if someone likes it or not. Thats the whole point of this. The person getting your cd might end up liking that one band I threw in there that was different from the rest. If they don't like it oh well I still do. I got comps where I didn't like much of the stuff that was put on them. I'm tough to please but I'm not expecting someone to make me cds of stuff I already listen to. I want something different. Of course I want stuff that sounds like I would listen to it but I also want something new.
Thats my rant for now. _________________

Thats my rant for now. I agree with PRD. I cannot tell you how many new bands - metal and otherwise - I have discovered through the comp swaps.

| I'll go in if someone is willing to use DROPBOX instead of trading cdrs. Those cost money as well as money for postage. I can burn my own cdrs if I want once I get the files.
Also, as long as the reviews don't have to be freakishly long. As in...can I just say "this is cool I dig it?" lol I have two small kids...I don't have a lot of free time to be writing up essays.
I like a variety of styles from oldies, bluegrass, 80's, metal, country.....although 90% of my stuff is metal....I've been branching out lately since I've not found much new metal that's been tripping my trigger so I'm pretty open minded about trying new stuff.

| Sounds like some more folks are jumping on board. So what's next, all the names go in a hat for RANDOM pairing up? Or is it going to be a pick and choose popularity contest. Lastly, if I'm getting the gist right, the concept isn't to send someone stuff that they are familiar with or already like, but to expose them to your fave's in hope to do some cross contamination? | |

| Once everyone is in, PDR will pair everyone up at random. When you know who you're swapping with, send them a pm and discuss the details (cdrs or digital, 1 or 2 discs worth of music, etc.)
In the past, I've tried to give the person I'm swaping with some broad guidelines. Find out if the person is offended by cursing, doesn't like harsh vocals, hates alternative, stuff like that. While I don't much care for power metal these days, that doesn't mean I ignore the whole genre. Something cool on a comp might grab my interest again.
Yes, the idea is to share your favorites with someone that might be unfamilair with a band or style, but it's also cool to put tunes on there that might be well known, but just kick ass nonetheless. If you want to go all obscure, go ahead. If you want to go more mainstream, it's your choice. It doesn't have to be all metal or rock. Put some blues on there if you want.
Think of it like getting those old Metal Massacre comp albums. Some stuff you'll know, some you won't. Some you'll like, some you'll skip over. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I've done comps with PRD (I can do so again because it was so long ago) and Sideshow for comp swap (can't remember who else that is still here) then Kmorg, Toho, & King outside of comp swap but I could still come up with something for them if need be (after all, never got any feedback from what I did send-not complaining, just saying). I just don't think I should be paired with Lurideath, because experience on this board tells me he'd hate just about anything I sent him.

Are you sure we did a comp swap, DB? I remember getting a bunch of stuff from you that you thought I'd like, but I don't think it was for a swap. I think it was when I bought stuff from you. I might be mistaking though. I always review the CD's I get, albeit perhaps not all the CD's when I did multiple ones. _________________

There might be one person that would be up to doing this since he didn't want to do CDR's either so I'll send him a PM and let him know there is someone else who would do the same. You can write whatever you want. It just gives the other person a heads up that you liked or didn't like what they gave you. _________________

I'm one of the guilty ones but yea it wasn't a comp swap so I didn't think it mattered I'm sorry DB. I probably didn't like a lot of it at the time but I know you threw some Sabaton on there and I wasn't crazy about them at first but I listened to some more stuff and grew to like it. _________________

| I don't see the point of sending CDRs at all. You have to rip them to a digital file before you make the cdr anyway. | |

In my case I have most of my music ripped to an external hard drive anyway. I have dropbox also though, but I think there is a storage limit there tham might be a problem. I have to investigate further. _________________
