| Got mine (2cds!!) from Olfasto over the weekend...and have been listening to it....so here goes: Disc a: 1) 'Frozen Asleep In The park" (COMMUNIC)- This song is wesome...heavy and powery and just plain killer....How easily can I nab a cd of this band??? 2) "Wolfpack" (SABATON)- Not bad....my 9 year old loved it...He thought the grouped vox were"really cool" 3) "Lionheart" (ASTRAL DOORS) I never checked this band out coz their name is stupid and made me think they were some sort of prog monstrosity...killer DIO worship band.... 4) "Dust Rises High" (DELIVERANCE) Not the Christian band but Italian thrash and pretty sweet at that! 5) "Cracks Of Light" (TITANIUM BLACK) This was a little lackluster... 6) "Loser" (AYERON) Another band I always wanted to check out...very interesting...I shall have to delve into them a bit more... 7) "A Portage to The Unknown" (TURISAS) very epic...and cool. 8 "Death Of A Tiger" (DANNY VAUGHN) Great!!! 9) "Stellar Master" (MALICE) a favorite band of mine 10) "The Dance" (CORNERSTONE) awesome hard rock complete with DEEP PURPLEy keys 11) "Nobody's baby Anymore" (WATERBOYS) amazing non metal band I have loved for years...Ol' do a write up on them in Rattpoisons Lost Band thread in the rock forum.... DISC 2: 1) "We Brought The ANgels Down" (JORN) Powery metal... 2) Warning Of Danger" (OMEN) Another band I love!!! 3) "Homesick" (SILVER) this is a strange band...kinda sleazy and gritty a little punky and sort of no-wave..I dunno. it's cool though. 4) "Sin Sex And Spandex" (THUNDERBOLT) With the title of the tune i got excited, you all know my love of glam/sleaze...this isn't pretty normal melodic metal. good but not what I expected. 5) "Future Without Past" (ANUBIS GATE) killer tune by a band with one of the most metal names Ive heard in ages... 6) "Life's A Female Dog" (HARDLINE) whoooooo-hoooo!! Hair metal!!! 7) "Metalstorm" (IRON ANGEL) as the title states...it's a storm....of metal!!! "Ballad Of Lucy Jordan" (MARIANNE FAITHFULL) croaky old lady sings depressing ditty. She is a pillar and she rules....like TOM WAITS with boobs. 9) "Whore Of Babylon" (WHITHHAMMER) nice metal...sort of traditional. 10) "Future Wars" (ANVIL) it's ANVIL..what can I say? 11) "Twelve feet Tall" (RAUNCY) blech. modern something... 12) "Institutionalized" (HYBRID) This song is killer...I added it to my track it down list.... 13) "Bloodsucker" (NUCLEAR BLAST ALLSTARS) thrashy loud metal!!!! total points: 9 out of 10... verdict: very enjoyable mix of styles and tunes from across the world. Only 1 song I could not abide....which is fine. Awesome overall. THANKS!!!! _________________ "Oh man, I need TV? When I got T Rex"

I sent you this song on another comp before. I thought you'd like this band. I love this album. Good to see Oldfatso has good taste! - Quote :
- 6) "Loser" (AYERON) Another band I always wanted to check out...very interesting...I shall have to delve into them a bit more...
One of my favorites by the band. Devin Townsend is absolutely brilliant on this track. Every time I hear his part I want to smash things. Haha. It gives me goose bumps every time. I suggest listening to it one a killer system and loud. It sounds awesome loud. And you should have no problems finding Communic around here. They are prog-metal, though, which you don't like, right? Might be a try-before-you-buy band. They are awesome, though. |

| Got mine from EvyMetal on Monday. Let's see what we have..... Metallica - Human The best song from the S&M album. If only St. Anger could have had something killer like this on it. Good Metallica choice, Evy.
Rebel Meets Rebel - Get Outta My Life Ummm, we'll skip this one for now.
Iced Earth - Transylvania Nice remake of the Iron Maiden classic.
Angra - Morning Star I really liked this one. The vocals reminded me of Twilightning a bit, and it was a very enjoyable piece of progressive metal. Nice choice.
Annihilator - Brain Dance Good choice for an Annihilator song. From the unheralded album "Set The World on Fire". Great song.
Dream Theater - The Dance of Eternity This is Dream Theater. Talented bunch, awesome bass playing in it. An impressive band. This is them doing what they do best.
Black Flag- TV Party Much respect on this one, friend. You can't go wrong with Black Flag.
Dethklok - Thunderhorse Yeah, we'll skip this one too
Helloween - The Invisible Man The best song from The Legacy. I like it.
Loudness - Mr. Yes Man Another one of my favorite bands. This one is off of Law of Devil's Land I believe. Very Rush influenced. I love this song!
Nevermore - Born What can you say about Nevermore that hasn't been said before? Brutal metal. I dig this track.
Rush - Malignant Narcissism Good instrumental off the latest album. Gee, I get the feeling you like the bass.
Sanctuary - Future Tense Criminally good band. Fantastic song from ITMB. Another excellent choice.
Scar Symmetry - The Illusionist The vocals need work, but solid music. I like it.
Stratovarius - A Million Years Away I have never heard these guys until today. Nice prog metal. Nothing too flashy, but solid
Victor Wooten - Turbo Jazz Much respect, Evy. You gotta love a random jazz fusion song from Wooten. This guy smokes. I recommend anyone who hasn't heard him to check it out!
In conclusion, I guess I was a bit prejudiced when I found out I was getting a comp from a younger guy, but EvyMetal has sweet taste in music. It gives me faith in the youth of today. Much respect to you, bro. |

| It has taken me some time to digest this 47 song assault from everyones favorite Uncle SAXON ! Listening to these discs reminds me of the countless hours spent at "Warped Records" in San Leandro (rip)or "Record Vault" in San Francisco... y’know, you’re scanning through all that import vinyl while some band you’ve never heard is blasting in the house music system.... Well here we go..... Minneapolis METAL - Heavy !!! THE REGIME - U.G.L.Y. Fantastic grinding heavy metal with good lead playing.... great hook... PORCELAIN GOD - No Great Escape.... A bit heavier Metal.. Some pseudo thrash elements... I can see those windmills spinning !! DEATHRIDER - The Curse/ Burn Victim.... After subtle piano intro blazing speedmetal... Decent vocals... moshing occurs.... the pit spinning.... POWERMAD - Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment .... a fun cover of the Ramones classic... lots of speed metal double kicks..! RIPSNORTER - Reality .... European sounding (to my ears) punk/metal... drums need a tone... MISERY - Blood Red Blue .... The vocals (when I can hear ‘em) sound like Lemmy doing death metal... not sure if they were trying to combine punk/death metal... Guitars aren’t cutting enough for metal... still pretty heavy... DEMENTIA - State of Dementia .... Heavy power/thrash with old Metallica style influences.... a return of the RIFF.... The vocals sound sorta Dave Mustaine like.... WARHAMMER - Among the Things.... Good solid heavy metal. Decent vocal and guitar work. The production is clean... AVALANCHE - F*** It/ ????? metals facination with four letter words returns... heavy power metal with fast thrash breaks... Pretty good.... oh yea... the ???? is for a 1 min version of ‘The Trooper’ done at 10 million MPH... pretty hilarious... CRIMSON THORN - Humbled .... where’s Vincent Price? I wouldn’t have know these guys were Christians, thank God for the internet... Good production values, the drums don’t sound like cardboard boxes.... Moves at a breakneck pace... Death metal to the bone.... IMPALER - Rise of the Mutants EP... he put the whole bloomin’ EP on here... ‘Shock Rock’, ‘Crack the Whip’ , ‘Impaler’, ‘Heavens Force’..... Having been put off by their album jackets 23 years ago I finally get to hear ‘em... Punky/metal with L.A. attitude in the vocals... not at all what I thought they’d sound like.... SOILENT GREEN - Circle of Death (demo) Heavy death metal... Not my cup of tea... HEFFER- My Favorite Things ..... Parental Advisory... absolutely hillarious punk/metal... Cow-Core!! Lyrical references to female anatomy/green leafy substances/ well aged liquid refreshment and the resulting side effects from indulging !!! LOL.... Two thumbs up... KUBLAI KHAN - Mongrel Horde pretty darn good speed metal.... Decent vocal and guitar work. DUMPSTER JUICE - ooh Baby ooh pornopunk? Not quite sure but not my cup of tea.... at times I was hearing Danzig in the vocal.. ANIMOSITY - Fun Time For All (demo) uptempo heavy metal... the drums are a little obscured (it’s a demo after all) so some of this is hard to make out... the riff breakdown sounds like I’ve heard it before... BABES IN TOYLAND - Sweet ‘69 .... All chick punk/metal band. Decent tune... GINGERJAKE - Grey on Blue..... ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.... There tinges of a ‘modern’ sound, but there is some freakin’ energy it kicks!!! Female vocals with some grit, what this about a reach around? Great hook at the chorus... Groove laiden high energy Metal/Rock..... DISTURBED - Kill ‘em (before they kill you) .... Heavy thrash metal.... I don’t believe they’re the same Disturbed that we all know.... but stranger things. DISTURBED - What the F***? ..... Ok..(there's that word again).. WTF... can’t get that stupid chorus outta my head with this guy screamn’ WTF, WTF, WTF, .... pretty hilarious... Not my cup of joe... as Steve Martin used to say ‘Comedy Isn’t Pretty....’ All in all an enjoyable disc of a bunch of bands I’ve never heard before. GINGERJAKE is brilliant... at least on that tune... Saxon totally appreciate it and I will review the 2 nd disc of Minneapolis Mayhem very soon.... Hopefully you dug the disc I sent... | |

| Exact33 did a killer Melodic/Power/Progressive compilation for me. These are the titles: Gotthard - Master Of Illusion I knew only the album Homerun so far which a fabric softener is. But not this one – it is a fine Heavy Rock tune, very melodic. Good start for the compilation. Threshold - Mission Profile This is straight Metal Power with catchy vocals. Every Progressive fan must like that one. Grave Digger – Rebellion This is one of my favourite Grave Digger songs. It is a perfect hymn of True Metal with the typical Grave Digger sound trademarks of traditional riffs, pushing drums and extreme vocals of Chris Boltendahl. Impellitteri - Rat Race Impellitteri was already introduced to me on the last Comp Swap. But somehow I didn’t manage to get a disc of them until now. But this will change soon. Rob Rocks vocals are marvellous. Sentenced – Nepenth This one is a masterpiece, hard riffs, precise but still melodic. I have to put this on my wish list. Wolf - The Parasite This is Traditional Metal with a raw production which makes fun. Another addition for my wish list. Turisas - To Holmgard And Beyond Viking Metal at it’s best with impressive excitement. A congenially sing along sound with Bombast Metal parts which is over the top. Here is everything what is expected: choirs, clean vocals and tasteful keyboards. This one goes on top of my whish list. Silent Force - No One Lives Forever This one is a melodic, bombastic Power Metal title which is great arranged. Charismatic, catchy vocals and experienced guitar work. Freedom Call - Mr. Evil I own The Circle of Live from Freedom Call which I really like, but this one sounds more mature. It is still very melodic Metal with a catchy chorus. Firewind - Falling To Pieces Solid and heavy Power Metal with a Synthesizer faded sound. The singer sounds like a mixture of Ralf Scheepers and Jorn Lande. I have to listen to some more titles of this band, sounds very interesting. Keldiar (???) – Crusader I could not read the band name, is Keldiar correct? Never hared of this band, but the title is solid and very melodic Power Metal.
Athlantis - King Lear Another very melodic title from a band I’ve never heard before. I have to look out for this one; I like the riffs and vocals. Powerwolf - Saturday Satan I can’t get this one out of my head, very much Power and charismatic vocals. Perfect. I have to put that one on my wish list. Black Bonzo - Lady Of The Ligh Wow they sound like Uriah Heep. The song starts with a 70th Synthesiser Into and even the singer sounds like David Byron. I’m a huge Heep fan, so I must love this band. Bloodbound - Behind The Moon That’s funny; I’ve placed a different song from exactly the same album on the compilation for Exact33. Perfect taste! Bloodbound is first-rate Power Metal. I have all their two albums, and I can highly recommend them they are both masterpieces with not a single bad title on them. Circus Maximus - Arrival Of Love This is a very melodic track with strong vocals and progressive impact. Only the keyboards are a little bit to excessive for my taste.
Exact33 did a perfect compilation for me that’s exactly the sort of thing that I like. Not a single bad song on it, all killers! I knew only 5 of the bands on that compilation and added 8 bands to my wish list.

| After listening to this comp Ghost sent me while going to and from work for awhile I finally sat down and put my thoughts to it.
1. Satyricon – Now., diabolical! What a start to the comp! I am not a great fan of the growl vocals nowadays but this song flat out rocks. If this doesn’t get you in the mood to bang your head you might want to turn your New Kids up louder…
2. Karkafdan – Passing Away A new band to me. I like the guitar a lot. The playing is pretty varied and kept my interest. The vocals are so-so. I thought they got in the way of the music a little. I am going to check out this band for some more listening.. 3. Trance – Heavy Metal Queen Never heard this band and it is a shame. I loved the melodic nature of the song and it oozed 80s fun!! This song has it all – great vocals, catchy riffs, the strong chorus and a little chugga chugga thrown in for good measure.
4. Cryonic Temple – Mercenaries of Metal I love anthemic metal and this is it in spades. I really need to check them out again…
5. Wuthering Heights – Raven This is one of the better songs from a band I love sometimes and cant get into other times. Raven has that right mix of shred, vocals and power. I don’t normally go for shred but this is a great song!
6. Arch Enemy – Rise of the Tyrant I had sort of lost interest with this band after anthems but this is a great track. It is typical AE but it is enough good stuff for me to check them out again..
7. Meldrum – Purge This took several listens to get into. It is a good song so I might check out the whole album.
8. Savage Circus – Waltz of the Demon Blind Guardian clones?? For sure there are a lot of similarities but they do carry on their own style. I liked this song a lot. I need to give this disc some more intense spins again…
9. Tarot – Bleeding Dust I had never really heard this band before and I like the song a lot! I am going to check out some of their material.
10. Bloodbound – Nosferatu It is funny indeed we swapped Bloodbound songs on our comps Ghost!! It was hard for me to pick only one song off this cd and if I had not sent you Behind the Moon it would have been this one. Fantastic album that is rapidly becoming one of the better of all-time in my book…
11. Enter Chaos – One Day Hero This was ok for me. It is sounded a little generic to me but I am not a huge growly vocals fan anymore. The music was very intense though!!
12. Opprobrium – Dark Entanglement Back in the day I loved this band under the Incubus moniker. I really have strayed from them. I really need to pull the cds out again and revisit them..
13. Mystic Prophecy – Dead Moon Rising I think the singer is kinda wasted on this band. He makes the song enjoyable but the music lets him down. The music sounded cookie cutter to me. I would love to hear him in a setting where the music is more varied and powerful.
14. Duke – Rising Child Duke is one of those bands I heard snippets from and then never went back to. This is a somewhat slower song but it works well. I really have to go back and get this cd.
15. Visions of Atlantis – Return to You Very ethereal. This is what you expect of VoA. I really need to be in the mood to listen to them. This song works well on this comp. I struggle sometimes to get through an entire album of theirs though.
16. Lemmy with Wendy O. Williams – Stand by Your Man While the sound recording may not be so great it is great to hear lemmy and Wendy O together. It is a fun remake of the song as well.
Overall: I love the variety in this comp. The different styles really meshed well. I enjoyed almost all the songs and there are a lot of bands I need to go back to listen to some more or check out for the first time. I really enjoyed swapping with ghost and hope to do it again sometime soon. there were so many songs that I had to cut that are great.
and ghost - sorry for the handwriting. Keldian is the name of the band. Their cd was released last year.

| And let Uncle Saxon's Sucky Review Skills reveal themselves:
Mr.Electric39's Comp Swap 5 Comp:
1 - ARMORED SAINT - MARCH OF THE SAINT (2001) I understand they re-recorded some of the old stuff as a tribute to Dave, but IMO, ya just leave that stuff alone, and let his legacy stand by itself. Love the song, but I think it was a bad decision.
2 - AC/DC - COLD HEARTED MAN "From the Powerage Sessions" it says. It is always cool hearing a song you have never heard before by a band that you know every song by heart. This is pure AC/DC and could have easily fit onto any Bon Scott album perfectly.
3 - TESTAMENT - DISCIPLES OF THE WATCH "OBEY!" one of my fav T tunes. If they made a Bay Area Thrash Greatest hits - This song would have to be included.
4 - THIN LIZZY - KILLER ON THE LOOSE (LIVE) Some people say they have no regrets. Well then, they must have seen Thin Lizzy live while Phil was still alive. This was never a big radio hit, yet it is one that everyone knows. That is what makes a GREAT band. This track blazes live!
5 - THE SHOWDOWN - FANATICS AND WHORES I know nothing of this band. Guitarist sounds like Zakk Wylde. Pretty cool tune. Sounds old school, but if this is a new band, there may be hope for the future of music yet.
6 - MPIRE - THE DEVILS RIVER Another one. I have heard of this band, but just assumed it was more power metal crap. This tune starts out really bluesy and then kicks into some great melodic hard rock. Has a Tora Tora feel to it. Totally dig it - now I gotta go find out more.
7 - SCORPIONS - THE SAILS OF CHARON One of my favorite cover songs ever was Testaments version of this classic. UJR's finest moment, imo.
8 - RIOT - HEAVY METAL MACHINE - Does it get more classic than this? Ok maybe - See track 18
9 - REDSEA - HELLBOUND TRAIN I have to admit, I have not listened to this album in probably 10 years. Time to pull it out again. That is one of the cool things about these comps - even if you know some of the songs, you may not have heard them in forever!
10 - OWENS/ALDRICH/BAIN/WRIGHT - FLIGHT OF ICARUS So, what would have Iron Maiden sounded like if Ripper Joined them instead of Judas Priest? This track gives ya a pretty good idea. I don't know which of the million Maiden tribute discs this comes from (actually, he wrote "Numbers of the beast", but I am unfamliar with that particular album), but whomever teamed up these four superstars knew what they were doing! I would love to see Ripper, Doug, Jimmy, and Simon do a whole album together. How cool would tht be????
11 - RAVEN - TAKE CONTROL Hearing this took me right back to Mpls Metal Mayhem 3 where me and Sideshow were completely headbanging our asses off (great memory Ben!). Probably the most underrated band in metal history.
12 - LEVITICUS - SAVED Although I have every one of thier albums, I have never been much of a fan. All thier stuff kinda comes of generic to me. Nice tune, but nothing special (other than the lyrics, of course).
13 - RAINBOW - LONG LIVE RNR I agree!
14 - JUDAS PRIEST - RIDING ON THE WIND (LIVE) One of the coolest guitar solos Downing/Tipton ever came up with. That solo reminds me of one of those birds that dive out of the air at 100 mph straight ito the water and come out with a fish and fly away. Picture that in your mind next time you hear this song....
15 - DIE HAPPY - ENDLESS TIMES Another album I have to bust out. After you don't listen to something for so long, it is easy to forget how freakin' good they are!!
16 - BLUE OYSTER CULT - KICK OUT THE JAMS Boring, Sidney, Boring, Boring, Boring... The only "band" that ever gave this song the energy it truly deserves was Rollins singing with Bad Brains on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack. Even the original MC5 version sucks. The song itself is PRIMAL, but I have never heard it (other than the above mentioned Rollins/BB) where it did not sound like it was gasping for air. Ya don't put regular unleaded in a racecar - ya put in rocketfuel!!! BOC is corn syrup.
17 - RUSH - BENEATH, BETWEEN, BEHIND - Mr.E goes deep, looks for the long ball, and....TOUCH DOWN! Great track. But then again, every song from '73-'81 was pure brilliance!!!! Can never go wrong when it come to Uncle Sax with old Rush!!
18 - ACCEPT - BALLS TO THE WALL "Let stick a bomb in everyone's ass" - that line was a rallying cry for all those around me in my teens. It took until my 20's to open my mind enough to realize what a killer, balls-out political statement they were making about the cold war at the time.
19 - JOHNNY CASH - HURT And Mr. E ruins all the fun by bringing me down with Mr Cash pouring out his soul in a Nine Inch Nails cover. We miss ya Johnny! R.I.P.
Well, this is one of those cds that I will throw in my car, and when I forget to bring some music with me, it will be there waiting to be played. And I will enjoy it all over again. Thanks Mr E! Really nice effort!! |

Highlights COLD HEARTED MAN - AC/DC was recorded for Powerage, but was only included on European Vinyl.. The current world wide release they are now the same this track is omitted.... terrible decision.... FLIGHT OF ICARUS - Numbers of the Beast http://www.amazon.com/Numbers-Beast-All-Star-Tribute-Maiden/dp/B000B6TR20 not selling albums but heck ya wanna hear Lemmy sing the Trooper! SAVED - Leviticus.... I totally dig Peo's voice on that one... that Live disc is their best one ! anyhow... Till next time.... 2nd cd review coming soon! open to more swaps in the future!

Glad that you liked it. When I got yours I was a little bit unsure about the Death and Black Metal tunes that I put on the comp for you. But good for me to read that you liked it. It was really fun for me swapping with you. I enjoyed it too.. I should have made is a double cd though Let me know if you want to do it again!! Alex _________________
