| Kings X is by far the more talented band and dissapointingly underrated one and they could not be any more friendly and genuinly appreciative of their fans! Don't get me wrong I do enjoy AIC, even though I live in Seattle and have had it up to my ears with them, especially that "Rooster" cut. Staley is/was a very heartfelt vocalist and its a shame he withered away well under the radar. He and Kinney were both very cool people as a whole, I can't/won't say the same thing about Jerry... Of note: I was at a Kings X show in Seattle, I believe on the Manic Moonlight tour and who had their arm around my shoulder singing along with every Kings X song... Sean Kinney. During the breaks he told me that KX was a favorite band of his and you could tell. | |

| Is the voting closed? I would vote for King's X, KX is a band many do not get for various reasons. I get it and I love it however.
That said I love AIC as well, in fact I and my uncle have our deer meat processed at Jerry's Dads facility outside of Atoka.
Alice writes better radio songs IMO while King's X writes better Rock songs. King's X live version of Over my Head can stand toe to toe with AIC live version of Man in a Box any day, again IMO.

| Alice in Chains for me. They're one of my fav. bands.
I've owned 4 KX albums over the years. I traded two a few years ago and grabbed two more in the last year to try again. They don't seem to stick with me and i'm really not sure why.

| I have to go w/ AIC and all their incantations, side projects and solo stuff. I love their slower stuff. SAP and Jar of Flies are amazing. They are a group that you either love or hate but Layne's vocals are far reaching and Cantrell's riffs range from crunchy to hypnotic. I happen to think that Layne's side project with PJ guitarist Mike McCready (sp?) Mad Season is one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time. I've been spinning it several times a month for over 15 years and will continue to do so for another 40. (Powerslave is another in my top 3 and we can argue about the other album later) I love Cantrell's solo stuff (think Spiderbite) and although their newest, post Staley release is decent and I mean no disrespect to K'sX, AIC wins hands down IMHO. Cheers, C. | |

Yea, I dig that one too. It should come with a warning label though. "Do not listen to this album if you are even the slighest bit depressed. This album will make it WORSE". _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I've been seeing that Mad Season at the used cd store the last few times I've been there and have contemplated picking it up but end up getting something else instead. I remember liking the one song that got airplay around here (River of Deceit? I think that was it) so if the rest of that album is similar,I should enjoy it. | |

I remember my old roommate having it, but at that time, I was very much anti-grunge so I never gave it the time of day. About a year or so ago, I found it at a used shop for 99 cents. How could resist? If you like the really, really mellow side of AIC and Layne's vocals, you should like this. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | I think AIC are better songwriters while K's X are better musicians... I'll take songwriting over musicianship. Look at Jimmy Page, he is somewhat sloppy but a brilliant songwriter. Don't get me wrong though, there is nothing like a great musician!

| KX are all three brilliant, thought-provoking songwriters.
I have never heard a whole Alice album, so I cannot make a personal comparison. I don't hate them as much I did when they were being played 500 times a day everywhere I went. So, maybe I should check out a couple of the cds that Auntie left here. |

| Funny thing is... KX influenced some grunge bands before grunge even was a word. Jerry Cantrell has said he is a big KX fan. Maybe that's why AIC had used harmony vocals so much... | |
