rattpoison I have no idea how you discover all these obsure bands but another great find, thanks dude.
I believe the Exploding White Mice was an Aussie band, therefore they're from Rattpoison's 'hood. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, RP.)

I'm not sure if Joey and the boys would find this funny, or if they'd be turning over in their collective graves...

Unfortunately, Joey sold the rights to this song for a can of Pepsi and a bag of potato chips. Seemed like a good deal at the time.

Surprisingly, it's not the worst Ramones cover I've ever heard. I have a bootleg compilation of rare, weird Ramones stuff that has a 70s/disco/funk version of "Rockaway Beach" on it which is absolutely barf-inducing. I'll take Alvin and the boys' version of "Blitzkrieg Bop" any day over that thing.

It's ironic there's a disco version of Rockaway Beach considering there's a repeated line in the song that says "They blast out the disco on the radio."

Talkin' bout bands that were Ramones inspired, the Huntingtons were good too. Their boss man Cliffy (now in Main Line Riders) has posted here in the past but he hasn't been around in a while. The Huntingtons even released 2 albums of Ramones covers and appeared as Joey's backing band a couple of times when he did some solo gigs in the mid 90s.

Funny you bring them up.
I just got back from Amazon where I ordered their Best Of. Even though I have most of The Huntingtons discs, I'm missing some of the real early ones.
I also ordered something from The Lillingtons and their subsequent band Teenage Bottlerocket. Both are described as pop punk a la Ramones, Screeching Weasel and The Queers. Since I like all three of those bands, I thought I'd take a blind shot.

I like Plastic Surgery, Rock n Roll Habits and Get Lost the best but this Best Of collection I ordered might be the best place to start.

Plastic Surgery has "I Wanna Be A Ramone", one of my favorite Huntington songs.

Found this on YouTube while trolling last night...the Ramones in a local TV commercial from Rochester, NY circa 1978 for the House of Guitars store...

Here's a band i think all Ramones fans should be into, Boston's Real Kids who were peers of the Ramones. They shared they're love of buzzsaw guitars, 60's girl group pop and 60's garage......hell even the haircuts........

That's good stuff RP... damn, you could tell people this was a long lost Ramones demo and they'd probably believe ya... that second guy from the left even looks like Johnny Ramone's twin brother!

One of my favorite bands. Love the first four, plus: "Subterranean Jungle" and "Pleasant Dreams".

Yes, 'Too Tought to Die' is a must have, great album, and 'Acid Eaters' were The Ramones cover tunes from The Doors, Amboy Dukes, Love, the Yardbirds and other 60's great rock bands.

Get them all. Mondo Bizarro, Adios Amigos!,Too Tough To Die,Subterranean Jungle,Animal Boy,Acid Eaters...End Of The Century and Pleasant Dreams get a lot of flack for being too poppy but I like them.

I've got a great duet cover of Johnny Thunders "You Can't Put Your Arm Around A Memory" sung by Ronnie Spector and Joey Ramone which is brilliant. That was the song i played the other day when thinking about Joey.
RP, have you ever heard Joey's duet with Holly Beth Vincent on the Sonny & Cher chestnut "I Got You Babe?"

No i haven't.......strange considering i'm a big fan of Holly & The Italians. Was it a one off single kind of thing back in the day? Kinda like the Lemmy and Wendy O's "Stand By Your Man"?
The Dictators aka the "Ramones before the Ramones" did a great cover of "I Got You Babe" on their 1975 classic record "Go Girl Crazy"........which also had a cover of "California Sun".
Edit: Found it, great cover. Love it.

Apparently it's a bonus track on this Holly Marie reissue... no idea where the song originally appeared. A B-side perhaps?
