Oh yea, those remasters are sweet. I have all of them except ROCKET TO RUSSIA and LEAVE HOME (because I already have both of those on CD from prior pressings, though I'll probably pick up the remastered versions eventually...) There's a treasure trove of bonus tracks on each one (my favorites are the B-side tune "Smash You" and the cover of the Stones' "Street Fighting Man," both of which areon TOO TOUGH TO DIE), and the liner notes are awesome!!

I have the "Ramones Mania" cd, good stuff always good to hear what influenced most of your favorite bands.

The "Ramones Mania" compilation was the first Ramones album I got when I first started to get into their music... I was hooked immediately and ended up collecting all of the studio/live albums so it kinda became obsolete for me... (this was obviously in the days before I deemed such compilations useless, as I pointed out in another thread here, haha)

Although I did pick up the LOUD FAST RAMONES: THEIR TOUGHEST HITS compilation that came out a few years ago because the first pressing was a limited edition that came with a second disc of live stuff ("Ramones Smash You: Live '85")... nice collector's item there...

Has anyone seen the documentary Ramones: End of the Century? I have not, and debated whether to pick up the dvd. Is it worth viewing? Buy or rent?

Yea, I've seen it. Very interesting stuff, particularly because until I saw the movie I had no idea what a schmuck Johnny Ramone was..he and Joey hated each other's guts for the last decade of the band's existence because Johnny stole Joey's girlfriend and eventually married her. They barely spoke to one another after that and when Joey died Johnny didn't even go to his funeral. I believe he summed Joey up by saying "He was somebody I worked with, you don't have to like everybody at your job." Nice huh?

The "RAMONES RAW" DVD is a pretty good one too, lots of cool live footage and backstage stuff (much of which was shot by Marky Ramone with his personal video camera while they were out on tour), TV appearances and a sweet concert from the END OF THE CENTURY tour which aired on Italian television... the only problem with that bit is that the interview portion is still dubbed over in Italian
lol!

If you've ever listened to Howard Stern back in the day, he would have those guys on and they would be viciously fighting with each other. It was very clear that they didn't get along. While it was hysterical to listen to at the time, it's kinda sad now, seeing that Joey, Johnny and DeeDee have all passed.

Yea, from what I've been able to gather they started to fight a little bit towards the end of the 70s (even before the girlfriend/wife thing) because Joey was the one who always wanted them to dabble in more pop-friendly pastures (i.e. the END OF THE CENTURY and PLEASANT DREAMS albums) while Johnny was the "true punk" of the band, he never wanted to "sell out," so they constantly butted heads over that, but I guess once Johnny stole Joey's girl, that was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.
The whole time I watched the movie and listened to Johnny talk about how he and Joey didn't talk for fifteen years, they never sat near each other on the tour bus, etc., etc., I wondered how the hell they kept that band together as long as they did with that kinda drama going on... any other band, one guy would've eventually went "F**k you, I quit," y'know what I'm sayin'?

Just saw this on Blabbermouth... R.I.P. brother 🤘

CBGB Founder HILLY KRISTAL Dead At 75 - Aug. 29, 2007

MTV.com reports that Hilly Kristal, the founder of legendary New York punk rock venue CBGB, died on Tuesday from complications from lung cancer at the age of 75.

Kristal, who opened the now-defunct venue in 1973 in the then-gritty Bowery neighborhood in Manhattan, is credited with helping to launch the mid-'70s punk revolution with his championing of bands such as the RAMONES, BLONDIE, TALKING HEADS, TELEVISION and PATTI SMITH. Following a final show in October of 2006, Kristal had discussed plans to take the venue to Las Vegas.

CBGB, which opened in December 1973, was officially called CBGB & OMFUG, which stood for "Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers."

Cool news about a new Ramones DVD release... this baby is goin' on my Christmas list this year. 🤘

Rare Ramones Footage Surfaces On DVD

A host of rare Ramones footage will see the light of day for the first time on the forthcoming DVD, "It's Alive: 1974-1996," due Oct. 2 via Rhino.

Among the highlights are unreleased footage from the same New Year's Eve 1977 show in London that was released two years later as the live album "It's Alive," nine songs from the 1982 US Festival, two songs from a 1995 stadium show in Buenos Aires, eight songs from a June 1977 show at New York's CBGB and clips from the TV shows "Top of the Pops" and "The Old Grey Whistle Test."

"The DVD has been a long time in the making," says former drummer Tommy Ramone (nee Erdelyi), who oversaw the project. "You can see how the group changes over the years, how each individual changes, how when a new member is brought in how that changes the dynamic."

Depending on how well the set is received, further live Ramones DVDs may be issued. "I think down the line -- if people want it -- there will probably be more video stuff coming out," he says. "People showed up at concerts with cameras -- there's stuff out there. And who knows -- there's always surprises coming from the Ramones camp."

I was never a big Punk fan - I have grown to appreciate it more, though. When I was a teen, I HATED Punk with a passion - I guess it was more the lifestyle and people than the actual music - I was (still am) a passionate weight-lifter, and I was very much into the world of pumping iron - So seeing those coked-up skinny-boys smoking weed and looking more rediculous than the most passionate Goth freak really pissed me off - Didn't like the music either..

So, getting back to the actual topic - Like Eyesore, I was never really into the Ramones, and found them quite boring too - I dig the more metallic-oriented Punk, though.

I don't like Punk and when I listen to this band I always say that they look more like a rock and roll band with Punk attitudes. (Not style)

They're a great band. The 70s stuff is classic obviously, but their 80s stuff gets overlooked a lot, even though those albums have some of their best songs.

Right on brother. One of my favorite Ramones discs is from the 80s - TOO TOUGH TO DIE (1984). Faaaaaantastic album!! One of their hardest hitting, angriest records.

But honestly, did they think that working with Phil Spector was a good idea? I don't remember the album right off, but that is an odd one.....
