| Why? I think he is a decent singer. And The Glorious Burden is in my opinion an excellent album. | |

| Nice cover. I hope this album is better than Glorious Burden which I thought was weak. _________________ | |

| Great cover. I can't wait to hear the rerecorded version of the Something Wicked Trilogy on the EP with Ripper singing. |

| I agree Tim Owens is a great singer, but he doesn't fit Iced Earth, IMO. He would fit in better with one of the many bands coping the Painkiller sound. Bands like Primal Fear, Cage, Frozen Tears. Owens would fit in great with any one of those bands or a band with that sound. He does not fit Iced Earth. I think a singer like Greg Wagner (Archetype, Shatter Messiah) or Michael Seifert (Black Destiny, Rebellion)would have been much better fits with Iced Earth. Too band they both already have two bands. I still like Iced Earth and I will still buy all their new albums, but I can't help but think how much better they would sound with a different singer. | |

My thoughts exactly. I'm hoping at the very least the new album will have writing mildly more suited to Tim's voice, but it probably won't sound right to my ears. _________________

| Great to see so many RIPPER OWENS fans. Normaly they are hard to find. Anyway, i dont think he is the right singer for ICED EARTH. His voice takes the magic away from all those old songs. Also i never liked him with JUDAS PRIEST. I saw him live ones and he was moving like a boxer, a rapper and if he would be black he would be a hip hopper for shore. Maybe he had a bad day but that show was horrible. I respect everybody´s opinion but to be honest i didnt know he had so many fans the other side of the sea. | |

| Iced Earth should of hired this guy: WINTERFELL - WINTER IS COMING (Demo) WINTERFELL - ASATRU He would have been a great replacement for Barlow. |

He would have been a great replacement for Barlow. He gets critized now for being a Barlow clone, I can imagine how bad it would be if he actually replaced Barlow. He is a young kid too, I don't know if he could handle that much pressure. My personal choice would have been Greg Wagner. He has the chops to handle anything from clean ballads to thrash to even a little death growls. Just listen to him on Acrhetype's "Dawning" album and on Shatter Messiah's album. The dude is awesome.

| Hmm, listening to that Asatru track, the guy would be an alright replacement for Barlow - definitely more fitting than Ripper. However, he seems to lack aggression and I think that's key for anyone taking the place as IE singer; I mean from the begining, if Gene Adam was able to do anything, he was able to get out aggression. Sure, it was this weird goblin high pitched aggression but it made tracks like "Colors" brutal.
You know, thinking about it, I can't think of many who'd make a fitting IE singer. I guess that's just because they had such a refined sound with Barlow. Pfft. _________________

| Looks cool to me. Ripper is great, although I do prefer Barlow in Iced Earth. Since we can't have him, Ripper is a great replacement. (Since Paul Stanley isn't available. ) | |

| Cool cover... should be interesting to hear Owens' interpretation of the "Something Wicked" trilogy. That is one of IE's most monstrous works IMHO, so I hope that he does it justice. When I first heard that they were re-recording it with Tim on vox I wondered if that was really such a good idea... Barlow's performance on the original is untouchable... | |

You know, thinking about it, I can't think of many who'd make a fitting IE singer. I guess that's just because they had such a refined sound with Barlow. Pfft. Well, like was mentioned, he is young. But if you listen to the Winter Is Coming demo EP and The Veil of Summer, he improved tenfold; and he kind of pulled away from that very Barlow-esque sound, finding something of his own unique voice—relatively speaking. I don't actually know if he'd be dynamic enough for every IE song, but back when Matt left the band, I think this guy would have been worth giving an audition to before even thinking about Owens. However, check out this demo clip: THE BEGGAR KING There's definitely a "Colors" tone in that clip. But you're right, coming up with a fitting Barlow replacement is tough, because Jon wrote IE's music with Matt in mind. That's why—and I think we all agree on this somewhat—some songs on The Glorious Burden just didn't suit Tim's voice as well as they would have suited Matt's. Aside from all this, Winterfell is definitely a band worth checking out. Here's another song from their demo. SON OF THE SUN |

I thought it was great idea. In fact, I said it should be done like a year ago simply for the sake of consistency. Jon, apparently, is a genius like me. |

Yeah, that's deff a bit more aggressive and more in tone with the IE sound. - Eyesore wrote:

Definitely, I agree. That's one of my main gripes with the Glorious Burden - it's clearly written with Matt in mind, but of course they chose not to use the vocals they recorded with Matt as the main stuff and instead replaced it with someone radically different. It doesn't work in my opinion. Sometimes I think Jon himself should take much more of a vocal role as he sounds incredibly like Matt. Okay, I doubt he could do the epic ballad but for the thrashier IE stuff, I think he'd be perfect. - Eyesore wrote:

After checking out the tracks you kindly provided, I'm inclined to agree. Thanks for that. (On a tenuous link, I finally remember why I recognised the name Winterfell. One of their members used to post over at the Iced Realm forum beforethe webmaster shut down the site. Guess they definitely take influence from IE then) _________________

| Unfortunately, Winterfell is pretty much on hold for now. I think only the singer remains, as they disbanded, but he has vowed to carry on at some point. |
