| The bands' 3 best, IMO, are the ones I suggested:
Gretchen Goes To Nebraska Dogman Ogre Tones
They're all good...some better than others...but those are my Top 3. |

| I was a big fan of Gretchen Goes To Nebraska and Out Of The Silent Planet, but for some reason lost interest after that. I bought Dogman and Ear Candy, but couldn't get into them at the time. Maybe I missed the Sam Taylor production. He also produced the first two albums by the Galactic Cowboys, and I like them a lot too. | |

| Sam Taylor is indeed a great producer. | |

| Sam Taylor is also a ripoff artist and had almost 0% involvement in the actual production of those albums. According to a reliable source, he was almost never at the studio during the recording of the first 2 records.
I prefer the albums after they showed his ass the door (Gretchen being the exception). |

| Hmmm ... that's weird because the Sam produced albums all have a very 'signature' feel to them. | |

Probably had more to do with the engineer of the albums | |

| Ty has been bugging Atlantic since the late 90's to let him remaster the first 4 albums and release them in a box set. So far, no luck....
Ty hates the sound of those records. Do a side by side comparison sometime between Ty's remastered songs on "The Best Of King's X" and the versions on the original discs...you'll see what I mean. |

| Part of what gave those early KX records that "sound" was Ty's rig. He used lesser known gear and kept his set-up all hush-hush for years because of his tone's signature feel. Also, recording in the 80s and recording in the 90s were different animals... Sam, from what I can piece together via comments & insinuations from KX interviews (as well as GC interviews) was sort of a "Svengali" type personality..."come follow me..." with promises of big things...then once he had you his true colors (whatever those were specifically) began to show and the band members were very resentful. |

[url=http://www.myspace.com/samtaylorwildesilas http://www.myspace.com/samtaylorwildesilas[/quote[/url]] Of course he doesn't...but I'd tend to believe multiple bands over one guy... |

That's what I gather too...I do remember hearing that "Fool You" by King's X was loosely written about Sam and the band's experience with him... - Quote :
- as I wandered...walked along on a lazy path
I shook and hand. he seemed to know so much more so I listened...tried my best just to understand then I followed to where I knew nothing of. over the hill, come see the thrill awaiting you there's so much more, go thru the door walk in the big parade, learn just what to say they will all try to fool you don't believe anything, I'm your everything they will all try to fool you and don't ever think you'll see another friend. as time went on, we were friends of a different kind but something there always tearing apart standing tall on a surgace of glass and rain we traveled on with a hope and a prayer over the hill, come see the thrill awaiting you there's so much more, go thru the door walk in the big...and don't ever think you'll find a better friend walk in the big... and don't ever think that I could do you wrong |

Good record, welcome to the club! There are alot of suggestions listed in this thread. Since you are enjoying FHL so much, you might want to get Gretchen Goes To Nebraska next. |

| I think I've only head Mr Bulbous Head and a mix of other tracks. Seems okay, but I've been less and less interested in progressive music lately. | |
