Yeah, I noticed this too. I think I'm more of a metal guy though.

As far as metal fans liking bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure, there are thousands of them! Even on this board there are at least 5 other metallers (besides me) who admit to liking Depeche Mode.

Depeche Mode (though often labelled among contrived pop acts), have always been true to their style. They've never sold out. In fact, they reached their status of fame on an indie label! They never have signed to a major label!! This is unheard of. Their attitude IS metal. Sure they play synthwave music (which I personally love), but they are NOT a typical pop band at all. They are very true to themselves, which oozes of metal (in attitude anyway).

Also, there are many metal bands that are influenced by Depeche Mode, Pagan's Mind uses many synth elements in their metal - such has been pioneered by Depeche Mode, as does a whole plethora of other metal bands. Lacuna Coil even covered a Depeche Mode song on their latest album.

Anyway - I just hate when metal people judge Depeche Mode as a poser band (not that you are doing that Ult, as I know you are not, but many do), when in reality Depeche Mode was more true to their sound than 90% of the metal bands who 'posed' out in the 90s when grunge became the thing of the day. Those bands were the real posers - changing their sound to fit the 'fads'. Depeche Mode never did this. They played and pioneered a whole new breed of music - and did it when it was NOT popular. They MADE it popular. Depeche Mode are legends.
