| Ult...that IS my story...I saw them at the Gyspsy Tea/Ballroom in Dallas and Phantom X and Fireball Ministry opened. I love...LOVE Dio, put that night he and his band were #3 on the performance list. Phantom X was fantastic as well!! I was about 2-3 rows back on the side Tanaka was on and man, she was awesome! Wish she was still with them...I loved The Reverend's facial expressions as he played and sang. Hilarious! They put on a great show! | |

| Review of the Kmorg's comp. I have to warn you: I suck at making reviews.
Armageddon - 2002 Cool intro for the next song.
Armageddon - Godforsaken Awesome melodic death/thrash song.
Ark - Resurrection I don't know if I like or hate this song. As it has some good parts and some bad parts.
Circus Maximus - Alive Good song. Reminds me little bit of Dream Theater.
Communic - History Reversed Great song, reminds me of Gamma Ray.
Deadly Blessing Cool song.
Equinox - Auf Wiedersehen Amazing song. Probably the best song from this compilation. The chorus is awesome.
Grim Reaper - Rock You To Hell Classic!
Heretic - Enemy Within Everything with Mike Howe is good for me.
Jon Oliva's Pain - Time To Die With the Equinox song, this my favorite song from this comp.
Lethal - Programmed Average song.
Malteze - Blessed Are The Strong Great song. Especially vocals are great.
Scanner - Not Alone Good song.
Screamer - Future World Musically good, but the vocals are annoying.
Witchhammer - Enola Gay Awesome speed/thrash song, or what is the right genre for this. One of the best songs from this compilation
Powervice - The End Is Coming Great song. Their singer reminds me of Paul Di'Anno.
Cadaver - In Distortion Musically cool, but I don't like the vocalist.

| OK, here comes my thought for around the compilation invader sent me, all the way from Finland. 1. Sodom - Among The Weirdcong - M-16 What a brilliand band, and song, to start off a compilation with!! Instant headbanging to one of the veterans, and pioneers, in German thrash metal! I still need pick up 'M-16'. 2. Antidote - Woe Betide Them - Total Some stellar power/thrash metal that I was totally unaware off. Definitivly a positive experience. Straight to the wantlist it goes. 3. Amorphis - Perkele (God Of Fire) - Eclipse Another band I should know, but I do so only in name. Still, this is good melodic death metal. I might pick up some of their albums after this. 4. A.R.G. - Adoration Of The Kings - One World Without The End Another, for me, unknown thrash metal band (see a pattern here? ) This sounds like a raw blend of the US and European thrash metal scene, with emphasis on the latter. Not bad at all! 5. Airdash - Choking Child - Both Ends Of The Bath One of the few bands that didn't do much for me on this comp. I am sure that there is something humerous about this band that I don't get. Airdash is also thrash metal, with a cross over flair, and clean vocals. 6. Defiance - The Killing Floor - Beyond Recognition I'm familiar with Defiance, but not the album this song is from. Defiance are stunning technical thrash metal. What's not to love? 7. Prestige - Maggots - Spelling The Salvation Probably one of the better tracks on this comp, and something that will be added to my wantlist. And, again, I was not at all familiar with Prestige's killer thrash metal from before. 8. Accuser - Judgement Gone Blind - Repent More techinal thrash metal!! I'm starthing to think that Invader has gone through my collection, because here is another band I am only familiar with in name only. Excellent stuff! 9. Razor - Edge Of The Razor - Violent Restitution Finally got to here some Razor. About time!! And hats off again, this is completly my taste! Frantic thrash metal!! 10. Tarot - Bleeding Dust - Crows Fly Black From the latest album by this Finnish power metal band. I have Suffer Our Pleasures from before, but i might look more into this band now. 11. Stone - Get Stoned - Stone Finnish dirty and raw power/thrash metal. The music is good, but the vocals wil take some getting used to. I was expecting stoner metal though! 12. Stone - Sweet Dreams - No Anaesthesia! I like the fact that Invader have included a bunch of Finnish bands on here. That is what these compilations are fore: Show peoplebands they might not have heard before. And what is better than choosing stuff from you own country? Well, agin, Stone is a good band, but not the best one on here. This tune is more melodic than the last one. 13. Powermad - Nice Dreams - Absolute Power Ok, Saxon, I admit it now: I HATE MYSELF FOR SELLING THIS DISC!!! Arghhh, this is really good! 14. Statue - Face The Life - Comes to Life More power/thrash. Good, but not spectacular. 15. Atrophy - Killing Machine - Socialized Hate Now, THIS is stunning! A perfect ending to this fine compilation. And what do you know? MORE THRASH!! I love it! Thanks to Invader for making this. I enjoyed the entire CD, and will hunt down many of the bands presented. _________________ | |

| Great Compilation! I've listened to KissinMaiden's comp a couple times now. I downloaded it to my Ipod so I could jam on it while I was working out.
I'm not sure of the exact order, but these are the songs he included:
Greenface/Red Baron (live) - Iced Earth Cool stuff. Already a big Iced Earth fan but hadn't heard any live material with Owens. This sounds like bootleg material, but isn't bad. I quite liked it.
Symphony of Destruction - Arch Enemy KILLER cover! Love Arch Enemy. Love Megadeth. Great stuff.
The Edge of Forever - Symphony X I am somewhat familiar with this band. I like this song. Good quality power metal. Not sure why I am not more into them than I am.
Fear of the Dark - Chuck Billy, Craig Goldy, Mikkey Dee Cool cover song. Chuck Billy singing one of Iron Maiden's heaviest, what more needs to be said.
Detroit Rock City - Dee Snider BRILLIANT cover! Love it! The vocals are good, but the musicianship and the slight changes to the song are fantastic. I'm a sucker for a good cover song.
Crazy Train - Sebastian Bach Not bad. The vocals are good. The music sounds a bit generic.
South of Heaven (Live) - Slayer A song I am familiar with. One of Slayer's best. A good song to get the blood pumping while doing some cardio.
Death Wispered A Lullaby - Opeth If Pink Floyd were a heavy metal band they might sound like this. A band I am very familiar with. I need to get this CD yet.
Damage Inc (Live) - Dream Theater Another very cool live track. I love oddball tracks like this. Dream Theater's cover is musically outstanding. James' vocals sound a bit odd in a track like this, but a good song nontheless.
Votex (instrumental) - Megadeth An instrumental version of Vortex from Cryptic Writings. A cool track to add to a Megadeth compilation I am putting together of b-side tracks. Thanks for this one.
Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) (live) - Iron Maiden Another cool live song. Bruces banter before the song is rather funny. BULLOCKS!
Follow the Reaper - Children of Bodom This one sparked some interest. I have some early CoB CDs, I need to get some more. Power metal with death vocals. Good stuff.
Fury of the Storm - DragonForce Iron Maiden played at the wrong speed. So incredibly fast it's almost comical.

| Sovdat sent me a fantastic comp! He even managed to throw some curve balls and hit me with a few thrash bands that even "I", the thrash freak himself, had never heard of! The want list has grown again!! 1. Negligence - Places Of Dawn (Slovenia) Oh yah! Very Bay Area sounding thrash, with plenty of speedy riffs, gang vocals and mosh beats! The vocalist reminds me a bit of Russ Anderson from Forbidden. A newer band apparently, you couldn't tell it by their sound! 2. Sarcasm - Crematory (Slovenia) I know ult mentioned these guys to me before, but I never got around to picking up their album. Good stuff! Fast-paced thrash with plenty of hook in the riffs. The vocals are a bit odd, but not distractingly so. Has a slight German power metal edge (think early Helloween). 3. Sarcasm - Don't Care If They Know (Slovenia) Same band as before. Improved production, and slightly more aggressive! Ripping thrash! The vocals (different singer) are a tad more aggressive and fit the nature of the music very well! 4. Eruption - Monumental Mind (Slovenia) Pretty good thrash here! Apparently a VERY new band. The production is a bit muffled, bit actually quite good for a first shot demo! Quick tempo to start, but with nice changes from fast to mid-paced. 5. Toxic Shock - Annihilation (USA) These guys remind me mightily of Fallen Angel from Sweden. Like the just mentioned thrash, they play blazing thrash metal. The singer sounds JUST like the guy from Fallen Angel. Me likey! 6. Toxic Shock - Land Of The Free (USA) Same band as above. Much heavier bass sound in the production, lending a slightly more aggressive and menacing feel to the music. Mostly mid-paced stomping thrash, they do mosh it up in places. 7. Crossbreed - Devil (Slovenia) This is apparently a one-man show, using the dreaded drum machine! It doesn't run it, as I might not have noticed if sovdat hadn't mentioned it. Rapid-fire riffing (lots of triplet action) and with drums and loads of double bass kick! No vocals, so we have some instrumental thrash!! 8. Cockroach - Married With Children (Germany) These guys OBVIOUSLY have a sense of humor! Yes, I'm sure the reference is from the TV show. Once the music hits, by golly, it HITS! STOMPING thrash metal baby!! Vocalist is slightly hardcore-ish sounding, but I he fits the attitude of the band just right! Mid-paced and crushing tune! 9. Exodus - Whipping Queen (USA) Yes, THAT Exodus. Apparently from one of their early demos. VERY raw sound. An excellent snapshot of the scene at that time! Guess who is on guitar on this one? (thrash diehards should be able to figure this one out) 10. Human Evil - Damnation (USA) Thrash from Milwaukee. Very raw, but it was their only demo. The vocals are weak, as they guy just doesn't give it any UMPH! Still, the music is pretty good. I've heard much worse than this! 11. Minotaur - Total Decay (Germany) Raw, chaotic thrash. Being from Germany, and the date being 1986, comparison to early Sodom is inevitable. Rightly so as well, as they sound a GREAT deal like Obsessed By Cruelty era Sodom, though not as muddy in the production department. Not horrible, but a bit sloppy. Still, there was a rough charm to it. 12. Terminal Death - Judge Death (USA) Quite a good sound on this for a demo from 1985! Surprising as well, is that it is death/thrash! Could they have been revered like Possessed is if THEY had gotten the break instead? Hmmmmm. Pretty good, though the riffs could have used a bit more work. 13. Death Dealer - No Colors (Canada) I know this band by their later moniker Deaf Dealer. Imagine if you will a somewhat raw sounding Iron Maiden. I enjoyed this, as they have that same kind of bouncy riffing that Maiden has. The vocalist was alright, but doesn't really stand out. 14. Recipients Of Death - Democratic Lie! (USA) I've known about this band for a long time, but hadn't heard them before. Quite good. Starts out a bit mid-paced and stomping, then just cuts loose! Vocalist is a bit like Zetro, but a lower sound to his voice. Complete mosh-fest!! Sort of like a more rugged, pissed-off Sacred Reich in a way. 15. Kruiz - In Flames (Russia) I previously knew OF this band, but had not heard them. You know, these Russian thrash bands have a lot in common with Japanese thrashers. GREAT bands, with ZERO out-of-home-country exposure! This one is a nice mid-paced romp. Solid riffs, good vocals (don't ask me what he's saying, it's in Russian!), a nice thump with the bass, and precise drums. 16. Chapel Desecrator - Wrecking Your Church (Germany) Can't say as I care for the name of this one too much. That aside, the music is pretty good. Thrash with a BIG punk edge to it. Actually, I really like the tune. That name would have made me ignore them completely if I hadn't heard this. Still, a name change would be in order... 17. Mengele - Morbid Dislike Of Foreigners (Finland) Nice ripping thrash from Finland! Very thin production (it's a demo, though). Can't see why they didn't get picked up by Poko Records (label from their home country) back then, as they sound as good as any other band from said label! Nice snarling vocalist! The name is from a Nazi fellow, isn't it? If so, that could be what held them back... 18. Wengele - Pi (Finland) Same band as above, but reformed with a new name. Much improved production, though still slightly raw sounding (2004 makes a whale of a difference!). Still playing blazing thrash! Vocalist sounds different this go 'round (different guy?). Why can't more America bands play like this in this day and age, instead of mallcore crap?! Most of the retro sounding bands come from Europe! 19. Crionic - Mortal Anxiety (Czech Republic) Another band I knew OF, but had not heard. Starts off with a nice sinister sounding bass line, then creepy guitar riff kicks in over the top. It then proceeds to turn into a mid-paced crush-fest!! Nice thrash breaks scattered throughout! Was already on the want list, but just went up in priority!! _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| Great review!! By the way, Negligence are finishing their debut album right now, so if you're interested, I can get it for ya! They have a different singer now, check http://www.myspace.com/negligence Song "Threshold of Society" is from the first demo with the same singer, "Shark Attack" and "No Brain No Pain" are from another demo with their guitarist Dyz as vocalist, and "Addicted to Aggression" is with current singer (Addicted to Aggression is also a title of their album, though this song won't be included ) The Kruiz song is a bonus from their self titled album, which was their only album with complete English lyrics! Here are the lyrics of the English version: The living share a common fate To meet the test of flames You think that you can get away They'll burn you in the end. Flames of desire, evil flames Consume you - no way out Blessed are the chosen who possess The flames that burn inside. Chorus: In flames! In flames! Dare to come in flames! Destroy! Destroy! Crash magic crystal ball! You'll see! Almighty in his sacred rage In flames The Metal God is born! The evil demon circles high The blackness of the night Chameleon deadly Satan's fire Completely kills the light. Evil for evil, eye for an eye Intensifies your fright You must preserve the fire of life And warm it deep inside. Chorus | |
