Remember the old mix-tape days? Well, basically we are doing it,CD-style. Swapping CD' with songs you want to share with your friends. The cool thing is that Sideshow is hooking us up in pairs, so we never know what we end up with, and probably get to know some new cool bands. _________________ | |

| I totally suck at reviews, but Shiney put a lot of work into the comps he sent me - so, I will at least list the tracks and give them a letter grade.
DISC ONE - MOSTLY METAL IN SOME WAY DISC:
1 - REIGN - DEI GRATIA - B+ (one of the few death metal bands I dig)
2 - BITTERSWEET - LOVE LOADED B+ (WOULD GET AN A- WITH BETTER PRODUCTION. OBSCURE HAIR METAL. VERY ENJOYABLE)
3 - CRYSTAL PISTOL - ROCKSTAR - B (SLEEZY! VERY HANOI ROCKS-ISH)
4 - UNBAND - PINK SLIP - C+ (AVERAGE 3 CHORD PARTY SLEEZE. I KNOW THIS IS SHINEY'S FAVORITE SOUND, SO HE'LL GIVE ME SOME GUFF ON THAT ONE. BUT IT IS PRETTY REPITICIOUS)
5 - HAPPY REVOLVERS - TONITE - C (NEWER SOUNDING POP-PUNK. COULD HAVE COME OFF ANY TEEN MOVIE SOUNDTRACK IN THE LAST 10 YEARS. NOT BAD, IT'S JUST BEEN DONE TO DEATH)
6 - IRONBOSS - MOTHERF***ER - A- (TOTALLY DIG THESE GUYS! DRUNKEN BIKER ROCK. IN THE NASHVILLE P*SSY VEIN.)
7 - LIX - ON HOLD - B+ (I THINK I HAVE THIS DISC - GONNA HAVE TO DIG IT OUT. KISS CLONES, EXCEPT BETTER. HAHA)
8 - LONESOME KINGS - THROUGH THE DEVILS EYES - C (ROCKABILLY. SOUNDS LIKE REVEREND HORTON HEAT OR LATE 80'S SOCIAL D.)
9 - MOTORCYCLE BOY - COME ON - C- (GARAGE ROCK. PICTURING 4 GUYS GETTING OFF WORK, CHUGGING A COUPLE OF COLD COORS 16 OZ'ERS, AND DREAMING OF A BETTER LIFE. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, EXCEPT THE MUSIC IS BELOW AVERAGE)
10 - HYBRID ICE - LOOKING GLASS - B- (INEXPENSIVE DIY POWER METAL? VOX VERY GOOD, OTHERWISE DOESN'T DO MUCH FOR ME)
11 - GENIUS HIRED GUNS - CENTIPEDE - D (WHAT THE HELL?)
12 - WEDNESDAY 13 - HAPPILY EVER CADAVER - A! (SNARLING VOX, TIGHT GTRS, LOTS OF "OOH,OOH"S IN THE BACKGROUND. MAKES YOUR BOOTY MOVE!)
13 - FASTER PUSSYCAT - YOU'RE SO VAIN - A- (ALWAYS LOVED THESE GUYS - AT LEAST THE FIRST 2 ALBUMS. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE COVERS THAT BLOW AWAY THE ORIGINAL.)
14 - ROYAL TRAMPS - GET ON YOUR FEET - B+ (CHUCKA, CHUCKA, CHUCKA. I BET THESE GUYS WERE A GOOD LIVE BAND.)
15 - AGENTS OF OBLIVION - SLAVE RIOT - C+ (GOOD FOR WHAT THEY DO. KINDA PRODDING. COULD USE BETTER PRODUCTION, AS WELL)
16 - EX-IDOLS - GO AWAY - A- (NICE FAT SOUND. I LIKE THESE GUYS. I CAN SEE LIV TYLER DANCING AROUND TO THIS)
17 - VAINS OF JENNA - NO ONE'S GONNA DO IT FOR YOU - B (AGAIN, COOL VOX. CONFETTI, SPARKLELY GUITARS, BALLOONS DROPPING FROM THE CEILING. IT'S A PARTY!)
18 - DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN W/MIKE PATTON - PIG LATIN - C (WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER WITHOUT PATTON. MUSICALLY, ALL OVER THE PLACE. LOVE THE SPEED THOUGH!)
19 - VAMP - 4TH OF JULY - B+ (LOTS OF ATTITUDE. MAKES ME WANNA BREAK STUFF)
20 - MR NASTY - MOONLIGHT SERENADE - A (SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST, SHINEY? THIS COULD HAVE COME OFF A ZODIAC MINDWARP ALBUM. GREAT STUFF AND INSTANTLY ON MY WANTLIST).
HOPE THAT WASN'T TOO ROUGH. |

| The Saxon Comp: Unc kindly sent me a comp of obscure hair and glam metal (he knows what Shiney likes) 1.) MARCHELLO-"Brown Eyes" great 80's metal...that's it. 2.) BADGER- "Plastic Money" loved this right off...then the vocals almost lost me for a second but I decided they rock...but as I find with all thing Saxonesque, probably something I will never find.... 3) LIAR- "Dance On Fire" Love this...much heavier than I expected. 4.)JAGED EDGE U.K.- "Out n The Cold" okay...a little too homogenized and plished.... 5.)FUN GOGH-"Once Bitten Twice Shy" not a cover of the cover Great White did...this band is great...quirky glammish metal...gotta find it!! 6.)JETT BLAKK- "Battered Child" good stuff!! 7.)BAD CANDY-"Doin' The Nasty"...is that cheeze? 8.)BRISK- "Long Way Home" good song...good times. 9.)ANESHESIA- "Dreamscape" very cool tune!!heavyish! 10.) STRANGER- "Take Your Best Shot" nice!! 11.) SHY BOY- "City Of Dreams" very cool! 12.) LYNZEE RED- "Not On Your Life" glammity glam glam. 13.)HYDE- "Crazy Without You" not too shabby. 14./15.) ERIC STEEL- "Intro/Fantasy" only one on here I've heard before. 16.)SIN CITY- "Piece Of The Action" woo-hoo!! 17.)LOUDNESS- "Like Hell" Um...I's LOUDNESS! 18.)IRON MAIDEN- "Cross Eyed Mary" MAIDEN covering TULL!!! 19.)INTRUDER- "25 Or 6 To 4" thrash cover of CHICAGO...you'll be getting a bill for the carpet cleaning. 20.)ROUGH CUTT- House Of Pain" Love the CUTT!! verdict: SAXON makes SHINEY happy!! _________________ "Oh man, I need TV? | My partner in crime was scottmitchell74. He and I traded right away. I am so bad at reviews, and I was stuck on a few songs. The comp was awesome overall! I can say I got turned onto some new tunes that I really liked. I would even like to pick up releases by a few of these bands. Ok, without further adieu...
Going into this the majority of these bands I have never even heard of, let alone heard. The one exception being The Cult. I am not much of a reviewer, so bear with me. I have a deep love of music, but lack in the writing reviews department
Ensifeium - Iron . I was blown away by this track. Not sure how to classify this. Heavy on keys, shredding guitar, death vox, some celtic, regular vox. I do not have alot of experience with Viking Metal, I am guessing this is Viking Metal. Either way I love it! I will pick this up for sure.
Soil - Breaking Me Down. This song has a very Nu metal vibe to it. Don't let that scare you away, this song rocks. Downtuned guitars, DJ table, double bass, I like it. Sounds alot like Drowning Pool, or Slipknot
Dark Empire - This is a killer song! Very in the vein of modern power metal. I thought I hated this style, but this is killer. Reminds me of Rob Rocks Holy Hell, I love it!
Warrior - The Alchenist. Time to slow down. I like it. I really dig the background vox. This singer has got some pipes on him.
Arwen - Illusions. Would this be Power Metal? Me likes it. Another key heavy on the keys, I like that.
Elvenking - The Wanderer. Very cool stuff! Heavy on the power keys, I love that. Any band that does that old Europe style keys rules. Beefy guitars, everything is good about this song
Kosp Klani - Happy Little Bozzer. Ever hear of dancing a jig in metal? never thought it was possible. This song freakin rocks.
Highland Glory - One Last Chance. I LOVE THIS! Shredding uitars that harmonize with keyboards gets me drooling. This is awesome stuff. Beeefy guitars, awesome keyboards, distinct double bass on the drums, awesome vox. Love it!
Astral Doors - Bride Of Christ. WOW! A+ Very beefy killer song. Shredding guitar.
Firewind - Breaking the Silence. Killer song! Love the key board. I love the mix of male on female vox. Killer, crunchy song
Beyond Fears - Coming At You. I like the guitar style played here. Does the chug chug chug. For this style of metal, the vocals remind me to much of Slave to the Grind era Sebastian Bach, which turned me off. Like the music though
Clutch - Pure Rock Fury. Is this a Jimi Hendrix remix. This sounds silly to me. Sorry not my thing
Wuthering Heights - Land Of Olden Glory. As far as Power Metal I am not expert but this wasn't overall that impressive. Talented playing, the vocals just turned me off. Sounds like the soundtrack for Lord Of The Rings.
Steel Dragon - We All Die Young. Is this Zakk Wylde playing guitar? If not the guy plays just like him. I love it!
Breaking Point - Coming Of Age. Cool rock song. Sounds very modern. I know nothing of this band. Sounds good though. A little bit mellow, a little bit rock, me likes
Pinkcream69 - Rocket Ride. had no idea what to expect with a band that has a name like Pinkcream69. I here alot of discussion about them, never heard them though. Cool mellow metal. I would imagine the lighters will go up for this one live.
The Cult - Nico Not what I expected at all. it sounds very modern. I like it though. Very cool lyrics
Fireball Ministry - Flatline. You know who this reminds me of? Troglodyte Dawn. Is this Doom or Stoner? I so nothing of this style of music. It is good, I like the guitar distortion alot. Good rocking song, whatever style it is. Very cool outro with the double bass. My favorite track off this comp. |

| Glad you like it (for the most part! ) Had a laugh at your description of Clutch-Pure Rock Fury! Soil I guess does fall under the category of Nu-metal...I don't care, I love that entire CD! You should check out Korpiklaani on youtube..just type in their names and watch the videos...hilarious...and yes!! It's dancing metal!! Polka metal Warrior is fantastic..it's Rob Rock on vocals for them as well! The whole thing is that good.. Astral Doors- I like them a lot, but their normal song isn't so speedy...they are more mid-tempo...but they have that same vibe throughout.. Have you seen the movie Rock Star? Steel Dragon is a fictional band from that movie...real metal guys of course, but the Steel Dragon songs were written for the movie. They sound like they came right out of 1983-88. The Steel Dragon songs on that soundtrack are easily my favorite songs from it. I'd never heard of Fireball Ministry until I saw them open for Dio a couple years ago....I was instantly hooked!! That's about how they sound for all their songs....yet that's a good thing. They have that just heavy rock/metal sound that to me is infectious... So, glad you liked it overall...I'll let others chime in if they want.....CAN'T WAIT TILL ROUND THREE | |

That's funny. That's exactly how I became a fan. They commanded the stage. Brontotex and I both felt that they stole the show from Dio, and that is coming from two huge DIO fans. Janis Tanaka was a presence on stage all her own. I was already familiar with the band and even had "The Second Great Awakening" but it wasn't until after I saw them that the album really hit me. I have seen them a few more times since. "The Second Great Awakening" is a frequent player for me ever since. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!
