| Ok, here is a review of disc 1 of the comp journeyman sent me (he did send a playlist, so I don't know all the bands and song names...)
Disc 1 1. Ace Frehley - Do you Old pop rock track. For the life of me I can't think of who performs this. Not really my thing, but it is rather nostalgic.
2. Alcatrazz - Lighter Shade Of Green No idea who this is. It's just a short little guitar interlude. Bit of virtuoso showing off.
3. Alcatrazz - Island In the Sun No idea on the artist or title again. Kind of a pop/rock track, though with some nice guitar soloing. A bit soft for my liking. Title of the track could be Sail Away?
4. Annihilator - Burns Like A Buzzsaw Blade Now this is more my thing! Classic Annihilator! Total thrash madness with Randy Rampage's snarling vocals and Jeff Water's guitar talents.
5. Blaze - 10 Seconds I'm sorry, THIS is Blaze Bailey?! The same Blaze that was on those 2 Iron Maiden abortions? But...this is AWESOME!! Total no-frills, no-holds-barred heavy metal! Excellent track, and my favorite from this whole comp, along with the next track:
6. Blaze - Ghost In The Machine Another outstanding song! Complete old-school heavy metal. The only thing "modern" here would probably be the guitar tone and the production. Vicious mid-pace stomper of a song. Think I'm gonna have to get those Blaze albums...
7. Bruce Dickinson - Accident Of Birth Yet another great track! The stuff Bruce was doing at the time stomps mudholes in what Maiden was doing.
8. Bruce Dickinson - The Alchemist Fifth outstanding song in a row! This one is off my favorite Dickinson solo album, The Chemical Wedding. Not the best song off that album, but none of them were filler anyway.
9. Cinderella - Hell On Wheels Some good ol' 80's metal right here. Borderline touch of glam, but never going that far. Pretty enjoyable song overall.
10. David Lee Roth - Stand Up Not really my thing. Kinda pop/rock-ish. Pretty sad that the man goes from the stuff he was doing with Van Halen to this. I like Van Halen, I don't really like this...
11. Deep Purple - Mistreated Burn Kind of a bluesy rock track. Still not doing much for me... Just too soft for my tastes I guess
12. Deep Purple - Mad Dog Another pop/rock sounding track (I'm guessing on the name, BTW). It's ok, but still nothing I would buy for myself.
13. Deep Purple - A Gypsy's Kiss Sounds like the same artist as the track before. This sounds much better overall. Pretty decent rock track.
14. Dio - Caught In The Middle No idea on artist / song again. I liked this one, though it's not my usual thing. A nice hard rock track. Singer sounds familiar, but I can't place it... (obviously familiar, as it's Ronnie!)
15. Exodus - Deranged CLASSIC! Can't go wrong with early Exodus at all. Old-school thrash baby; this one is RIGHT up my alley!
16. Extreme - Peacemaker Die Bluesy rock track. THIS is REALLY not usually my thing, but I liked the vibe of this tune. _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| Disc 2
1. Gary Moore - End Of The World You wanna talk about guitar shred? Here is a big dose of it to kick off this track. Once the rest of the band joins, I find I don't care for the singer's voice, but it's a nice good ol' fashion metal tune. Wish I knew the artist and ACTUAL song title...
2. Gary Moore - Shapes Of Things No idea who this is. Sounds like it was a vinyl rip. Decent sounding hard rock tune. Maybe the song is "Come Tomorrow"? I kinda liked this one.
3. Heavy Load - Full Speed At High Level I really feel I should know who this is... Sounds kinda like early Priest, but that doesn't seem quite right... Anyway, I like this track. (sounds like metal in it's early youth! haha)
4. Helix - Jaws Of The Tiger Big fat chunk of 80's metal! I'd like to know who this is. It's not my usual thing, but it's good. I'm guessing the song name is Jaws Of The Tiger?
5. Iced Earth - Greenface I recognized who this was right away by the guitar tone. Ripper Owens is such an underrated vocalist! Can't say I'm big on this particular IE album though... This song does kick ass however!
6. Iced Earth - Screaming For Vengeance Another outstanding song! Cover of a classic song! Pretty good job on it.
7. Iron Maiden - 22 Acacia Ave (live) Freakin' CLASSIC song! I'm not really a fan of live recordings overall. However, this track does a pretty good job capturing the atmosphere of the setting.
8. Iron Maiden - Ghost Of The Navigator This is killing me that I can't think of the name of this track. Early tune with those classic bouncy Maiden rhythms... I hate myself now... (added the track name, and I STILL feel stupid for recognizing it).
9. Iron Maiden - Rainbow's Decent track. Kind of a southern rock vibe to it in a way. Not my usual thing, but nice enough for a one-off.
10. Iron Maiden - Blood On The World's Hands I feel I should recognize this singer... Cool song. I wouldn't be brave enough to say whether this is considered rock or metal (rides the fence pretty good). Wish I knew who this was... (song MIGHT be Blood On The World's Hands?)
11. Jag Panzer - Generally Hostile Very cool tune! Wish I knew who this was. Old school metal (a bit of a speed metal vibe).
12. Judas Priest - One Shot At Glory Excellent song from one of the best albums EVER! If you don't know this one, maybe you don't like metal? I'm just sayin'
13. Keel - Speed Demon Nice old school metal track. Wish I knew who this was (maybe Keel?). I really liked this one!
14. Lita Ford - Gotta Let Go Sounds like this one has a chick singer. I am usually not a big fan of female singers... (maybe the song is Gotta Let Go?). Can't find myself warming up to this one.
15. Mercyful Fate - Nightmare I feel I should know this song... Has that typical vibe of a King or Fate tune. This one has been bugging me for days (the fact I can't come up with a song title). _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| Disc 3
1. Michael Schenker Group - Armed And Ready Sounds like Priest in way. I feel I should know this...
2. Motorhead - Burner I've never tried a lot of Motorhead, for whatever reason, but I like everything I've heard from them... This song is awesome! Basically a thrash / speed metal track. I need to correct my lack of Motorhead in my collection...
3. Page & Plant - When The World Was Young I do not like this song. Mellow, slow and soft...
4. Psycho Motel - Killing Time Another tune I feel I should know... Good ol' heavy metal; a big fat slab of mid-paced riffage!
5. Queensryche - Queen Of The Reich I really liked this tune. More no-frills metal! Sounds slightly familiar at times... (maybe titled Queen Of The Night?) (jeez, I feel half retarded for not recognizing some of these tunes!!!!)
6. Rough Cutt - Take Her More good heavy metal! I LOVE the freakin' main riff on this one! Wish I knew who this was...
7. Accidental repeat of the previous track
8. Rush - Circumstances Geddy Lee has the most distinct voice EVER. I can't for the life of me recall the name of this tune... This band isn't something most people would expect me to like I bet, but I do enjoy them.
9. Saxon - Just Let Me Rock Cool rock tune. I know I've heard this before, but I couldn't tell you who it is...
10. Scorpions - New Generation Big fat chunky riffage brings this one in after a slow, soft moving intro. The guitar tone definitely sounds much more modern compared to their old material. Pretty good track (must confess I've never been big into this band).
11. Sepultura - Manifest Good tune from the last Sep album I enjoy. They still carried that thrash sound, though added some groove elements.
12. Steve Vai - Blu Powder I'm guessing that this is Vai, but it certainly has his vibe written all over. I'm REALLY sure I've heard this before...
13. Ted Nugent - Primitive Man 80's rock / metal tune. Sounds somewhat familiar, but I can't say for sure. Decent enough track, though not something I would listen on a regular basis...
14. Tokyo Blade - If Heaven Is Hell Another tune I'm sure I've heard at some point before. Has that old early 80's rock / metal sound to it. Title may be Heaven Is Hell or Your Heaven Is Hell? Enjoyable tune nonetheless.
15. TT Quick - Glad All Over Pretty decent track; again sounds like early 80's rock / metal. Singer DEFINITELY sounds familiar.
16. Twisted Sister - The Fire Still Burns I liked this tune. Has that classic heavy metal sound to it. I don't think I've heard this before, but the band sounds like one I've heard...
17. Tygers Of Pan Tang - Gangland This one was ok, but sounded kinda generic. Again, has that early 80's metal vibe all over it. Don't know, just didn't find myself diggin' on this one.
18. Vandenberg - Friday Night Pop rock / metal. Was an ok track, but really not something I would find myself enjoying very often. _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| Disc 4
1. Vinnie Vincent Invasion - No Substitute Pop / rock tune. Didn't find myself caring for this very much. Sounds like a pretty typical tune from the period...
2. Whitesnake - Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues Live tune. Sounds vaguely familiar. Synth'ed up bluesy rock. Pretty smooth track overall.
3. Wolfsbane - Man Hunt Yet another track I feel I should know. Slight speed metal vibe to it. Some tasty guitar shred solos, and some double bass kick during the chorus. Wish I could place this one...
4. Zebra - As I Said Before Another tune with that 80's rock / metal vibe. An ok track, but again, not my thing usually. I felt at times during the song that I should know it, but couldn't place it.
Overall, journeyman has displayed very broad tastes! He's also helped turn me on to Blaze's solo works and for that I give him a big thanks (those two tracks kicked my ass!). _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| The robot known as SM74 sent me 24 tracks: Crescent Shield - The Path Once Chosen: This album has been on my want list for a long time now, but I can't find the damn disc around here. And I hate paying full price! So I've only heard a few tracks. This one is excellent. Pretty standard power metal overall, with the vocalist doing his best Dickinson impression, so the reference is Maiden, I'd say. A great tune either way. Makes me want the album even more. Elvenking - The Wanderer: I dig this band. I can't listen to them all the time, but when I'm in the mood they're a great listen. Too bad I don't know any dwarfs and elves. They'd love this band. Falconer - Emotional Skies: Where do I know this opening riff from? Sepultura maybe? Prong? I know that riff! Either way, this isn't nearly as heavy as I thought this band was. I thought they were more death metal. I really dig this! Sucks, too, because I found The Sceptre of Deception for $2 a few months back and traded it through lala without even listening. Makes me sad inside. Thanks, bro! You've ruined my day. Great tune, though. I dig the female vocals mixed in. Falconer - Northwind: Another great track. Pretty standard power metal, but really good stuff. I'll have to look into this band now. Mortification - Erasing The Goblin: Another band I always thought to be death metal. I know this band is held in high esteem by a lot of you, and when this song kicked I was ready to trash it. It came off weak, but it grew on me during the chorus. Still...I can't imagine I'll run out and buy anything by them. Not horrible, but not great. I'd snag it for a few bucks in a used, no doubt. Saint Spirit - Hands Up: I'm a big hardcore fan, but this band just sounds sloppy. And the songs not very good. Burp. Tyketto - Lay Your Body Down: Hey now! This is more my style. Total 80s cheese. I love it. Believe it or not, I've never owned an album by these guys. I've always intended on picking something up, but never found anything that wasn't way too expensive. Standard music for the time, 80s rock lyrics abound, and a big cheesy chorus. Great stuff! Tyketto - Sail Away: Another standard. It starts with that acoustic strumming accompanied by the kick drum, before kicking into a mid-paced rock tune. I'm actually surprised this song isn't about a train, like Babylon A.D.s "Dream Train" or Roadhouse's "Freight Train." Solid tune. Me likes. Titanic - Shovel The Coal: Hey! A train song. Full steam ahead! Haha. Never heard this band, but I dig it. Nice pounding groove here, not unlike what a lot of industrial bands out there do. But this is all real instruments, no samples and the like. The singer has a great 80s metal sound, similar to Kevin "Deadnow" Dubrow. Good stuff. I'll look into this band. Dagon - We Will Destroy You: Wow! This is terrible. Audio poop. This sounds like a 4-minute shart caught on tape. Bloodbound - Nosferatu: Another band on my want list. I've never seen this band's albums around here. I had this first one downloaded at one point and loved it. I deleted it thinking I'd buy it soon, but here it is like three years later and I've never found it. There's nothing of originality here, just some killer power metal. Top shelf stuff right here. Recommended for everyone! Ten - Oblivion: I just finally picked up three albums by these guys a few months back at CD Spins's going-out-of-business sale. This particular track isn't on any of those albums, but it's good. A nice AOR kind of song. They most definitely have better songs, but this one is good. I wouldn't turn it off ever, but I'd probably intentionally flip to this one. Steel Assassin - Hill Of Crosses: For whatever reason, this song won't play on this disc. No matter. I own the album and it's killer! I mentioned them a long time ago, but no one saw the post. One of the best bands to come from around these parts, and this song is proof. Outstanding stuff. And a badass album cover, too! Astral Doors - Cloudbreaker: Beed a fan of this band since finding the debut in the $2 bin at Nuggets when it came out. I actually think this song is one of the weaker on the album. "Of The Son And The Father" and "Slay The Dragon" are my two favorites from the album. The latter could be a long lost Dio tune. Outstanding stuff and a killer band. They haven't put out a bad album yet! Demonic Resurrection - Apocalyptic Dawn: Starts out great. A nice power metal style. Then Dookie Monster shows up and starts "singing." At about 3:32, though, a real singer steps up and the song sounds great. Unfortunately Dookie Monster must have eaten him because he never returns after that brief serenade. Too bad. Wuthering Heights - Highland Winds: Doesn't play. Wuthering Heights - Land Of Olden Glory: Again, this one doesn't play. But I own everything by this band and they're killer. This is another band I discovered in the $2 section at Nuggets in Boston. I found To Travel For Evermore there years ago and liked it. I didn't love that one, but I did like it. The albums that followed, especially The Shadow Cabinet, are outstanding, though. Both of these songs are from Far From The Maddening Crowd. Great progressive power metal! Nils Patrik Johanssen (singer for Astral Doors) lends his exceptional pipes to these two tracks (he wasn't on To Travel For Evermore or Within). Beyond Fear - Coming At You: A great song. Tim Owens can definitely sing, and if he speaks true, he can also write a pretty solid metal tune. I'm not sure how much truth there is to that, though. Sebastian Bach will have you believe he writes or co-writes songs, too, but all he does is do lyrics and sing, maybe add some ideas here and there. To me, that's not writing a song. It's hardly co-writing. But Owens says he writes complete songs on his own. I'd like to believe that, because I'm a fan. "Coming At You" is one of the best songs on this album. Owens tears it up on the mike, and it's got a great chorus. "Scream Machine," however, is still far and away the best track on that album, by a mile. That track is just brilliant! But this one is very good. Alter Bridge - Buried Alive: I mentioned before how it baffles me that this band is so universally accepted—and liked...a lot!—within the metal community. This is a solid alt-rock tune, but I've heard it all before. Sevendust, 3 Doors Down, Liquid Gang, Flaw, and countless others do it just as good, and some much better, but they're pretty much shunned by many of those that love Alter Bridge. It's odd. I dig this song, though, and I think I'm convinced that I'll give them a try at some point. I still don't understand the hype. But they do this style well. Rob Rock - Slayer Of Souls: I like it. I've not heard much from this dude, but I want to hear more. The guitar tone of this track is weak, but the song is solid. Typical power metal; nothing new here. But it's good. Angra - Nova Era: I'm a fan of this band. They're a bit too overblown for my tastes sometimes, often lacking the musical equivalent of balls. But I do like them. Sometimes they just lack substance, and this is one of those times. The song is good, but it's faceless in a faceless crowd. There's just so many songs like this one out there and it lacks that special something that makes that fact irrelevant. They're a good band, though. Pink Cream 69 - Gods Come Together: What a retarded band name. And I didn't know gods were into that sort of thing. Zing! Anyway, this is actually on the one album I own, Thunderdome. I own one other 1-track promo single, but other than that I've heard nothing else from the band. Even if the band has a stupid name, this song is great. Very catchy 80s-inspired metal. One of my favorite styles! (Their cover of "My Sharona" is horrible, though.) Warrior - Soul Survivor: I own The Wars Of God And Men by these guys. I don't remember much about it, to be honest. This particular song isn't on that album. It's a mid-paced metal groover. I dig it. I guess Rob Rock does vocals on the album this one came from. I thought they were a power metal band. Maybe I should give the album I own a few more spins. It was a $2 bargain bin purchase, but it must not have impressed me much at the time. This is a good song. Not amazing, but worth a further investigation, I think. Silent Force - Walk The Earth: Another band I've wanted to check out. I've heard a few songs and the band sounds really good. I can actually find their albums around here, but they're all $15.99 or more. That might as well be $100 to me. It's too much. Haha. This song is excellent, though, so maybe I'll reconsider some day. Very catchy tune, big hooky chorus (my favorite kind). Good stuff. Overall, this was a great compilation. I didn't like everything, but of the bands I had intended to check out previously, this compilation just reinforced that desire. And that's always good. Plus I know have a few more to add to the list. Not sure if that's good, though. Haha. The list is 927 miles long as it is. Thanks, bro! |

| Ah, the last few before this I was very excited and was usually first in line and then waited forever for others to get theirs in. This time I hung back a while and got to know the material better. My steaming pile of musical crap came from Eyesore! 1) Eden's Curse - The Eyes Of The World - This was given super high marks on Melodicrock.com but I never checked it out. WHAT WAS I THINKING?? This is smooth, perfect melodic metal. Great! Nothing else needs said. 2) ShadowDivine - Seven Steps To Hell - GREAT tune. Love the vocal delivery. Very thrashy, very anthemic. I've heard a few metal tunes over the years that give me this impression but this reminds me of what Grease would have sounded like if it were a metal musical. This song sounds like Metal Grease. ????? Yeah, me too! 3) Dreamcatcher - Break The Chain - Decent song, a little "light in the loafers" and the singer sounds like he's straining/reaching. I like it in theory, but I'd like to hear them again in a couple years. 4) Fragile Vastness - Somewhere - Nice pounding rhythm when it's cruising along, but it spends a lot of time "nancing around in the pansies" for me. If the up-tempo parts were more throughout this would be closer to a killer tune. 5) Pro-Pain- Operation Blood For Oil - OH YEAH!! Thrash rhythms, smoking little lead parts (for what they're worth), "Smooth" hardcore-ish vocals. Fast! Pounding! How have I not heard these guys before? I'd get tired of their political schtick in a hurry, I bet, but I ignore that when the music is really good. This is really good! 6) Assailant - Lies - Good mid-level melodic Euro (power) metal. Not breathtaking, not a skipper either. Solid 7) Concept Of God - Hearing Voices - Seeing the name of this band I thought "Uh oh, prog" Not so, at least not this song. This is simply heavy metal. Not bad at all. Not a "grabber", but a worthy listen Eternity Balck - Angels Into Pandemonium - Good tune - romping - the vocals are more or less hardcore style yelling. Not bad, just not scratching me. 10-13 years ago I would have eaten this up! Not melodic enough for me now, but again, a good tune. 9) Before The Dawn - Dead Song - It's not a bad song by any stretch, simply not memorable. Talent, no hooks.... 10) Chaos Fear - Denied Rights - Yelling vocals. Not bad. Not a "want" but these guys play a tight tune. I like their chugging rhythm. 11) Mylidian - Chaos Prophet - Double bass!! Gang vocals! Epic! Big!. I like it!! A heavy accent which I always like (and I often see people writing off as a bad thing??). A little more seasoning and these guys could be great! 12) Kinrick - Call Of Honor - Great guitars!!! Great tone!! Great vocals! (Firewind??) This is my kind of metal. Romping, with great vocals and an awesome guitar tone (is there an echo??). Ah........ 13) Furbowl - Weakend - Huh, this is not bad at all. Good song writing. Even the rough gravelly vocals work well and are pleasant. Goofy production (that matters these days!! I'm spoiled!) 14) Core Device - Our Fellowship Eternal - Nice! I've no idea how to describe this music but I like it. Great alternating vocals. It's heavy metal. 15) novAct - Sharply Condemned - Really like the vocals!! Nice melody. Very well crafted tune. The keys provide great atmosphere. This is just unique heavy metal with keys and atmosphere. Not powermetal, not prog - just good mid-tempo metal with style. 16) Syren - Stay Alive - Nothing jumps out and nothing chases away. It's a pretty god heavy metal tune that doesn't inspire or insult. 17) Game Over - Hyrule's Angel (The Sleeping Beauty) - This sounds like it was done in someone's garage. Well, it's not quite that bad, and it's not a slam because it's good. A great tune, lots of good ideas and the effort is big. The pieces are good pieces and I'd like to hear this song done again with a budget in 3 years. Style? I'd say uplifting anthemic doom. Thanks Eyesore!! I'd not heard ONE song on this Comp. Some truly great tunes, and really no clunkers (whether they speak to me or not). you've given me much to check out and by sending me this you've actually sent me a bill for $50. Thanks! | |

| Heres my review of the compilation cd from Wargod48. Vindictiv- Dream Of a Demons Head When the song starts the guitar solo sounds a lot like something from yngwie malmsteen. In a way that bothered me cause why would someone want to copy yngwie's guitar sound? The vocals didn't really sit well with me either.
Final Stage- In the Night This song was ok it was heavy and reminded me a little bit of wizard especially with the vocals. Not enough to get me into them though. Viron- Beyond the Gates Another ok song. Nothing really stood out to make me really like them. Crown Of Glory- The Ravens Flig This one is a little better its pretty heavy. Reminds me a little of Pagans Mind. The vocalist is good but only for the chorus. The effect that is used in the verses dont sit well with me. Vaugan- Endless Nightmare Sounds a little like Symphorce. Unfortunetly again though nothing grabbed my attention with this song. Ari Koivunen- Fuel For The Fire Finally something that I was interested in hearing. This is last years winner of Finnish Idol. Not too crazy about American Idol because no one ever did what this kid did and that's actually play cool metal bands. I was surprised that this song was actually really good and so far the first song i liked on the compilation. I'll be looking for this cd. Reminds me a little of the Koltipelto releases. 7th Reign- Believe Didn't get into this song. Vocalist bothered me a little. Defending The Faith- Dreams heavy song but the fake drums are really annoying. Im guessing this might be an unsigned band or something because I havent heard of them and the production isnt too great. Singer kind of reminds me of Blaze Bayley. Edens Curse- Judgement Day Decent song. Music is good but im not totally hooked. Cryonic Temple- Shark Attack Not a bad song reminds me a little of Tarot but the chorus is really corney. If it wasn't for that chorus it would be a great song because I like the music and the vocalist. Messiahs Kiss- Dream Evil No not a DIO cover, thank god because this band wouldn't have done it good. Paragon- Allied Forces Piet Sielck must have produced this band because every time he does he always guests on it. This also sounds exactly like Iron Savior which is probably why I dont like it. I like Iron Savior but not bands that sound exactly like them and this is almost dead on Iron Savior. Mob Rules- Evolution Calling Good song. Ive heard of them for a long while now and just never really picked anything up by them. I think i'll start looking now. Airbourne- Heartbreaker Sounds just like AC/DC. Great band actually picked the cd up last week. Tyrant Eyes- Shadows From Heaven Reminds me of newer Labyrinth. But I couldn't get into it. Id like to thank Wargod for making me the compilation. I found a bunch of bands that I never heard of before. Even though I didn't like most of them I will definetly check these bands out and see what else they have to offer. I might like something that wasn't on this cd. | |

Good to know. I specifically included songs I thought you wouldn't have heard. I didn't want to make a compilation of tracks and bands most people have heard. So let me discuss a few for a second... - Quote :

I reviewed this band's EP last year or so. I think it's awesome! One of those bands that'll likely come and go and not many people will ever know they existed. The fart in a tornado factor. They remind me of Rage, especially the vocalist. And is that a bad thing? Not sure about the Grease comparison. Haha. - Quote :
- 3) Dreamcatcher - Break The Chain - Decent song, a little "light in the loafers" and the singer sounds like he's straining/reaching. I like it in theory, but I'd like to hear them again in a couple years.
This is a young band out of Canada. It is a bit "light in the loafers," but I still think they put out a great little EP. Maybe knowing that they are kids and still learning you can dig it a bit more? - Quote :
- 4) Fragile Vastness - Somewhere - Nice pounding rhythm when it's cruising along, but it spends a lot of time "nancing around in the pansies" for me. If the up-tempo parts were more throughout this would be closer to a killer tune.
Ah, I knew you didn't like prog-metal much, but I was going out on a limb with this one. I really love this band and think they're heads above the bulk of the bands in the genre. Oh well. I tried. =) - Quote :
- 5) Pro-Pain- Operation Blood For Oil - OH YEAH!!
Their politics really never get in the way of the music. If you liked this song, you should like everything except A Foul Taste of Freedom and The Truth Hurts. Not saying you'd dislike those two, but A Foul Taste of Freedom isn't as heavy, as it came out in the early 90s and the band had yet to find their metal groove. They did find it on The Truth Hurts, but really found it. The album is wicked heavy. Gary's vocals are sick on that one; you can hardly understand him. Haha. Both great albums, but definitely a bit different. The rest of their stuff sort of stylistically sits between the first two albums. Glad you liked it, though. This band deserves more fans. - Quote :
- 7) Concept Of God - Hearing Voices - Seeing the name of this band I thought "Uh oh, prog" Not so, at least not this song. This is simply heavy metal. Not bad at all. Not a "grabber", but a worthy listen
The album is like a mix between doom and heavy metal. It's an old side project from current and former Solitude Aeturnus members. Sadly it took about a decade to get a release. - Quote :
- 9) Before The Dawn - Dead Song - It's not a bad song by any stretch, simply not memorable. Talent, no hooks....
Fag. - Quote :
- 12) Kinrick - Call Of Honor - Great guitars!!! Great tone!! Great vocals! (Firewind??) This is my kind of metal. Romping, with great vocals and an awesome guitar tone (is there an echo??). Ah........
Written and produced by David Chastain. Not sure why he wasn't considered a band member, but it's a great album. I found it for $2. - Quote :
- 13) Furbowl - Weakend - Huh, this is not bad at all. Good song writing. Even the rough gravelly vocals work well and are pleasant. Goofy production (that matters these days!! I'm spoiled!)
This is an old band. Johan Liiva is the man behind this band, and he has an odd voice. The album this song came from is awesome, though. Very weird and different. Almost like progressive death metal, but even that's not completely accurate. I first heard this song in 1994 on a compilation album. I still think this is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. I love the breakdown and solo. So cool. - Quote :
- 14) Core Device - Our Fellowship Eternal - Nice! I've no idea how to describe this music but I like it. Great alternating vocals. It's heavy metal.
$5 on CD Baby. Awesome album. The vocalist sounds a lot like Warrel Dane. - Quote :
- 15) novAct - Sharply Condemned - Really like the vocals!! Nice melody. Very well crafted tune. The keys provide great atmosphere. This is just unique heavy metal with keys and atmosphere. Not powermetal, not prog - just good mid-tempo metal with style.
Glad you liked this one. I think this album is brilliant. 10 out of 10. I love the vocalist. He's got a great unique sound, though I do hear the guy from Fine Your Cannibals in his voice. Not a bad thing, as that guy has a great voice. - Quote :
- 17) Game Over - Hyrule's Angel (The Sleeping Beauty) - This sounds like it was done in someone's garage. Well, it's not quite that bad, and it's not a slam because it's good. A great tune, lots of good ideas and the effort is big. The pieces are good pieces and I'd like to hear this song done again with a budget in 3 years. Style? I'd say uplifting anthemic doom.
Dude! Have you ever played NES? Zelda? This is a metal tune based on the old Nintendo game. It's badass! This band turns old midi songs from NES games into metal tunes. Haha. I don't think they'll ever sound much better than this, but their two EPs are really cool. I love what they did with this song. Here's the original tracks they copied: Title ThemeDungeon Music |

Also, not many people realize he pretty much writes everything. Killer musician. Have you ever heard FA-Q? Apparently it was Gary and some dudes from Overkill. They released one album. I've never been able to find it. |

| Can I get in on this? I have over 3000 CDs with styles ranging from punk (Screeching Weasel, Swinging Utters) to industrial (KMFDM, Ministry) to symphonic metal (Epica, Therion) and Celtic rock/punk (Wolfstone, Dropkick Murphys). Plus a lot of stuff in between. Anybody interested in a mix CD? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
