Part 2 of Olafsto's Comp.

Scariot - Monopolize

Very good vocals on this song and they really stand out, this is a good band but I feel that the lack of a constant line up is hampering their progression. (from the album Strange to Numbers 2003)

Falconer - Lament for a Minstrel

Excellent band & Album. Both Olaf & myself sent songs from this record to each other during this swap. (from the album Chapters from a Vale Forlorn 2002)

Dropkick Murphys - Workers Song

Great song from a great album, can't fault this one bit. (from the album Blackout 2003)

Astral Doors - New Revelation

Christ, Olafsto must have more Swedes than a Stockholm supermarket.

Best song off of the bands weakest album to date (from the album New Revelation 2007)

Titanium Black - Words

Good vocalist but the songs is way to slow for me, there's no life in it whatsoever, would love to hear a faster song. (from the album Bleed for you 2004)

D.A.D - Jihad

What a song, I love it, after listening to it for the 26th consecitive time I just wanted to pick up a gun and invade Scandinavia by myself. (from the album No Fuel Left .... 1989)

King Kobra - Hunger

Shite song, Shite album, Shite Band. 'nuff said. (from the album Ready to Strike 1985)

Overlorde - When he Comes

Desperatly slow start to the song but when it gets going and boy does it go, I was getting thoughs of Crimson Glory's Midnight in some of the vocals and then Iron Maiden was coming to mind at other times, the vocalist on this CD is Bobby Lucas of Seven Witches fame. Certainly one for the "to buy list". (from the album Return of the Snow Giant 2004)

Frost - What's Left

Another great song, Olafsto the cute bastard must have shagged off to the US and told noone, Jack Frost or should I say the American Gus G. I never liked this album that much or the follow up "Out in the Cold", reason being too many guests, I hate that crap, the earlier Frost albums released under the Frost Bite moniker were much better in my opinion. (from the album Raise your Fist to Metal 2003)

Nuclear Blast Allstars - Eternally

Good Vocals, otherwise crap. ohh and Olfasto's back on the European soil again, cute bastard. (from the album "couldn't be arsed looking it up")

Gotthard - El Traitor

Yip Olaf's back. Great song, can't understand a fooking goddamn word of it but I like it, But I found myself singing "Anytime, Anywhere", which is another Gotthard song, but the two names don't match up in the different languages ???? conspiracy ?? where are Opus Dei when you want them. (from the CD Single El Traitor 2006) though I wouldn't figure that out, didn't you Olaf !!

Sirenia - The Other Side

The new album is not as good a previous releases but it's a solid one all the same, It's nice to get a bit of diversity in the old comp and what better than a wee bit of Gothic Metal, lord that singer has a mouth on her that would suck a 2 euro coin through the eye of a needle, emmmmmmmmmmmmmm (from the album Nine Destinies and a Downfall or Nine Scandinavian bands and another 2007)

Witchhammer - Enola G.a.y

WTF ? a norwegian band ? it couldn't be, could it ? well fook me sideways and call me Emily it is a band from Norway, well I'll tell ya that was a bolt from the blue, there was some hope for you Olaf when you had a few US bands in a row, then you headed to Switzerland (Gotthard) but no, you couldn't control yourself could you ? you had to head back up to Scandinavia. This better be the last band from that region on the CD, thank christ the US Griffin is next. Great Thrash Metal by the way. (from the album 1487 1990)

Griffin - Lifeforce

You cheeky bastard, I though this was the US band but with surnames like Karlsen & Nergaard appearing in the bands bio I soon found out they weren't american, Excellent Heavy Metal, I had all the albums but sold them last year when I was having a clean out, I may invest again in some of them, It's hard to understand why they are unsigned at the moment, maybe I should sign them ?? (from the album Lifeforce 2005)

Carnivora - Staring into Darkness

Have a guess where these guys are from ? go on, as a prize I'll give the winner a one way ticket to NORWAY, yes that's NORWAY.

Good Heavy Metal though, but just nothing good enough to make me want to buy their albums (unless it comes with a free one way ticket OUT of Norway !!) (from the album Judas 2004)

TNT - Eddie

For the love of all that is holy, truthfully I was looking down the song list and when I saw TNT, I always assumed that they were from the states, how wrong could I have been, all these years and only now I find out that they are from a reclusive part of the world which in similarities to the word "Macbeth" you dare not say as it's told that saying that word brings untold misery and hardship, but I'll break the silence and name this poor unfortuate country and shall take on any evil that is sent my way, what is the country I hear you whisper, well brace yourselves because the country I speak of is NOR "fookin'" "fookin'" "fookin'" WAY (yes the poor mans Iceland). Olafsto can shaft himself if he thinks I'll ever do another swap with him, never never, never.

Nice ballad to end the disc though. Go on Olaf you good thing Laughing very hard (from the album Knights of the New Thunder 1984)

Overall through the 2 discs what did I find out ? well I found I have a greater hatred from Norway than I do for the UK, I also found out that there is more bands in Norway than I though ever possible, I also realise that Olaf needs to get out more, there's a whole wide world of Metal out there boss to be explored. Laughing very hard

I'd certainly do a swap again (but not with a Norwegian Comp Swap - Page 7 505193 ). only kidding, thank Olaf for the great tunes, lots of bands that I had never checked out. hope you are having fun with mine.

Kmorg & Spectrfate, it's up to you guys now.

CD One of Kurt's 2 CD compilation (FINALLY!)
=====================================

Armageddon - 2002/Godforsaken
Great modern thrashy goodness! I love the guy's voice very much in the Mille from Kreator vein, but more modern. In fact this whole band sounds to have one foot in the past and one in the present.
A promising sounding band, despite the lack of a unique name. Smile

Artch - Metal Life
I love this kind of metal. It's just straight forward, no keyboard, driving mid-paced metal. Reminds me of Omen with better production. The vocalist is perfect for this music. I love it!

Eidolon - Coma Nation
Heavy as hell modern thrash. The vocalist sounds a little out of place, much in the same way I think the guy from Stone is out of place in that band. He also sounds like he is trying to be something he is not. Sounds a little like James Rivera worship. However, this band has a good sound, albeit a little generic.

Equinox - STOP!
The acoustic beginning made me think Believer for some reason. Then breaks in a heavy mid paced grind that I love. The vocalist is raw and perfect for this music. This song kills! I am assuming this is the christian Equinox band? No matter, because I highly recommend these guys!

Heretic - Enemy Within
Mike howe's old band, right? They sound how I remembered them. Good, but nothing dynamic. Mike sounds too big for this band. But I like it. Smile

Sinner - No Place In Heaven
Awesome riff. It screams the 80's and the vocalist is straight from '85. Perfect. Right up my musical alley! These kind of bands used to be a dime a dozen so its good to go back and hear the stuff
I haven't heard before. I'll have to look these guys up. Probably 50 bucks for a CD. Oh well. So is life.

Thunderbolt - Call Out The Lions
Never heard of these guys. They sound promising. Accept/Grave Digger-ish on the riffage. The vocalist is pretty unique. Not bad. Smile

Faith Factor - Prayer Warriors
I had this EP until scottmitchell was persuasive enough to get it from me. Ski is a killer vocalist and to hear music like this 20 years after its prime is such a treat. This band has a huge future ahead of them.

Black Destiny - Who Am I?
I have never heard of these guys before either. The tuning of the guitar reminds my of Hypocrisy. But the vocals sure as heck do not. Smile I like this. If all new metal sounded like this, I would like more of it. Good stuff, but it doesn't scream "Buy Me".

Communic - History Reversed
I have heard these guys are compared to Nevermore? This song doesn't sound anything like Nevermore. Neither musically or vocally. Not bad stuff. Starts out slow, even as it picks up, I don't hear Nevermore. See this is why I hate reading others' opinions before I decide on my own. I can't get past the Nevermore comparision that doesn't exist in this song. Not bad, though a bit vanilla for my taste. I was waiting for this song to take off and it didn't.

Dionysus - Spirit
These guys have a definite 80's feel to them that appeals to me, but again, this song is a bit middle of the road. This is a good song, though a bit slow. I'd like to hear a more up-tempo number from them. That vocalist sounds like he's reining (sp?) some power.

Jorn - Stormcrow
Nice beginning riff. This is the kind of song I've been waiting to hear! Pretty awesome guitar work. I have heard about this guy but that's about it. He has a good Rainbow-esque tonality to his voice that I really like. A mature sounding voice over powerful metal is always awesome to me. I REALLY like this!

Lethal - Programmed
These guys sound like they had a great sound that didn't convert to the recording process. The guitars are a little buried and the drums sound a bit thin, but that's all production problems. The vocalist sounds like a mix of Tate and Midnight. Very nice! I would love to hear this band live, I bet they killed. Awesome song, despite the poor production values.

Screamer - Future World
Here I was hoping for a Pretty Maids cover song. Smile But it sounds like it may have came out prior to the Pretty Maids song. The vocals sound like a Tate or Lizzy Borden influenced dude. Nice, though a bit rough. Very 80's sounding guitar tone which I highly dig. Very Queensryche-ish, although nowhere as good. Pretty cool, but it seems they have a bit of work.

Malteze - Blessed Are The Strong
I forgot about these guys (and gal). The song has a Maiden-esque vibe to it. Not bad AT ALL! I love female vocalists alot. This chick is pretty good. I wish the guitars were louder, though. I dig this alot. When you get rid of this, Kurt let me know. I WANT IT! Smile

Trampled Underfoot - Into The Night
The bass line to Heaven and Hell is featured here. Smile Not bad. But Shawn Pelata isn't singing. Next track, please.

Municipal Waste - Deathripper
Wow, it's 1987 again. Smile These guys completely kill! I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Bad ass crossover thrash! Sounds like a young Kurt Brecht on vocals. Totally killer!

Ah, cool write-up, Brian. Seems like you liked most of that disc. The Equinox band is NOT the Christian band, but rather an obscure bnd from Norway. So far I've turned Sidshow, ultmetal and Arttie (and sovdat?) into fans of this thrash metal monster.

I'll try to do the other 2 discs you sent me too.

I've never felt that the comparison to Nevermore is justified. The singer definitely can sound identical to Warrell Dane, and the music can occasionally hit a riff or two similar to Nevermore, but overall each band is quite different from the other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4ozWuA_FBE

There the singer sounds like Dane. But again, the music is quite different. The chorus of that tune gives me chills!

OK, time to get this review going.
Locky`s vol 2:

WICKED ANGEL - WHITE LIES
Good start this is. Excellent US metal. Will be on the lookout for this one..

SCARS - WARFARE
Intro by Adolf H is a bit scary, but the minute the song starts I`m smiling.
Total Thrash attack. Good stuff.

JOHNNY LIMA - ROCK `N`ROLL RIVER
Hair Metal sounding to me.. And absolutely brilliant it is...
Never heard of Johnny boy, but he will soon be in my collection!!

SENTENCED - DESPAIR RIDDEN HEARTS
Now this one comes as a shocker to me. Never bothered to check out this Finnish as I was sure it was Death or Melo Death Metal (which I cant stand). But this song is pure brilliance.. Love it. Is it just this one song or do they have whole albums sounding like this????

KROKUS - EAT THE RICH
Poor man`s AC/DC my arse...
Krokus rules. Great song by a great band!!

THE NEW BLACK - 50 WAYS TO LOVE YOUR LIVER
lol!
Easier then to leave your lover maybe?
Ok song..

THE ALMIGHTY - FREE `N`EASY
WOW, Locky is on a roll, the drunken Irishman presents another brilliant Hard Rock band, straight into the wantlist it goes!!

MESSIA`S KISS - RUN AND HIDE
More good stuff, this will ruin me..
Great vocals, great guitars, great song..

LIFE AFTER DEATH - MY LIFE
Well this seems never ending. Another unknown treasure to me..
Traditional, almost Lizzy sounding Metal..
Some pretty well known names in this band. Great..

STORMWITCH - KISS OF DEATH
A band I`ve been thinking of checking out a long time.
Will definitely do so because this song is great, hm, am I repeating myself again?
Not the worlds greatest reviewer this Norwegian

WIZARD - DRAGON`S DEATH
Fast galloping Power Metal!!
New to me, again something I will buy if I stumble upon it at the right price!!

SHANNON - DO YOU KNOW
Have to admit that you impress me Locky. More melodic awesome sounding Hard Rock or Metal. The vocals are much to my liking....

THE WALTONS - HOMEWARDBOUND
Like this a lot!!!
Can`t find any info on them online, link???
Not sure how to label them, but very good..

SAVAGE MESSIAh - SPITTING VENOM
A lot easier to label, THRASH 🤘 !!!!!!
Love it, one of very few desent British Thrash bands...

MELDRUM - ANOTHER KIND
So this is the band of the late Michelle Meldrum..
Sad story, not to big a fan of female vox, but this is very good. RIP..

STEEL WARRIOR - ARM OF THE TIME
Brazilian cheesy Power Metal..
Cant help it, but I love it!!!
Fantastic chorus..
Scottmitchell will wet his pants if he gets his hands on this..

MUNICIPLE WASTE - SET TO DESTRUCT
🤘 🤘
This band is high among my favorites right now. KILLER KILLER!!

POISON - SEXY BACK
Well you had to ruin it, Ale overdose??
Crap version of a crap song...

SMOKIE - ALICE
Ah Smokie, good memories from my childhood..
Actually had Smokie and Slade as very early favorites... Man that makes me feel old...
This version was a his some years ago in Norway, sounded ridiculous on some comersial radiostation who sencoured the f##k part..
Alice Alice, who the piiiip is Alice.

CHUBBY BROWN - ALICE
laughing
So that`s ALICE????
Funniest thing I`ve heard in a looooong time

So apart from a little slip, this comp is top class. Locky has really done it with this one. Safe to say that the music is better than the man...

I know I said this last time, but I REALLY mean it this time:

Almost ready there John. I'm waiting for a VERY rare disc to show up (the style of which is RIGHT up your alley) so I can pull a song from it for your comps. Gonna be roughly 70 songs, and cover just about every type of thrash there is.

For me the last Comp Swap didn't go too well. When the reciever finally got around to them he had lost the playlist and I no longer possessed it. Also I never received anything myself (though I don't hold anything against that person, I can understand how one can get sidetracked). Anybody interested in doing a Comp Swap with me that can follow through with it? Just PM me if so.
