Subject: New Metallica Song -- new album/tour in 2023 Mon Nov 28, 2022 11:02 am
So out of nowhere, Metallica dropped a new song "Lux Aeturna" this morning, and announced a new album due in April (72 Seasons) with the usual huge tour to follow.
I haven't had time to digest all the other info but I've listened to the new track a few times already and I'm intrigued. It has a major Diamond Head vibe to it.
What sayest thou?

The new tune is a deliberate nod to their roots. It’s not great, but I like it. It definitely has a Kill Em All vibe (with a modern twist).

Love it. James has clearly been spinning his NWOBHM records.

I can hear the Diamond Head comparison. The gift that keeps giving!

I like it. Before I clicked on it I was expecting a bloated 7 or 8 minute tune, but this one blows by at a nice quick pace.

Awesome song.
Back to the roots while adding a slightly modern vibe.
Works perfectly well for me!

Looks like the Pantera tribute is opening on some dates for the Metallica tour.

I think the lyrics -Amplification lightning the nation- might be a reference

The album cover is just not doing anything for me. But if the album sounds as good as the the first single, it's all good.

The album cover is pure shit! It must be a Lars concept piece.
At least the music seems promising.

James Hetfield on the album title
Quote :
In a press release, Hetfield explained of the album’s title, “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”

Woof, that album cover is terrible. At least that bright yellow will make it easy to find on store shelves. Haha

So the first 18 years has more effect on your current world perception than say spending the last 40 or so years touring said world, and the past 30+ years being part of the elite 1%. Okie Dokie

Went to Library to listen on Spotify today. Read the lyrics before listening, expecting something "deep" after reading James' explanation of the album title.
Anyone.... Notice the lyric from "Motorbreath" in the pre-chorus. So the old school is not just in the riff.
A few listens is enough for me. Cool that people dig on it

For me, it looks like it could be an album cover for a 90's alt-rock band.

I just thought of Stryper too!

Michael Sweet will probably comment on this album cover soon…
If it was anyone other than a juggernaut like Metallica, he might sue them for using Stryper’s trademark color scheme. It might confuse people!
