| This is a show that's right up my alley and I'd definitely love but alas, no HBO, so I've never seen one episode. | |

| I've bought and watched up to Season 4. My girlfriend and I are going to hire Season 5 this weekend and binge it. It's a great show, but the books are better IMO. _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

Aw man, I was gonna make a snarky joke about how you don't know that they make CDs you can play on your TV with shows and movies on them. Heh.

| The genesis of my fandom for this show is quite funny. When I moved to Florida in the fall of 2014, I met some new people who were pretty big fans of the show. They tried to get me to watch it, I said no (emphatically). I basically told them I had no interest, due to the fact that I loathe the time period that one would normally associate it with. This is sort of funny, since I'm an secondary education major (former teacher) and my area is history.
One day last summer, I was bored out of mind and I had the weekend off. The weather was absolute garbage and I needed to get connected with a new show via HBO and chrome cast. I thought, what the hell. Needless to say, I blew through five seasons in about two weeks. I still hate the time period, but I almost forget this about the show. It's one of the best shows that I've ever had the pleasure of watching. The characters are multi-dimensional and they evolve in ways that I have never witnessed. The story lines are rich and the pacing is to my liking. Even though I love the violent nature of this show, I get off on the emotional catharsis that all characters have experienced. This show is tragic in every sense of the word and spares no one.

I'm thinking those criteria are enough to get me interested in the show too. For some reason I've always written Game Of Thrones off as some boring historical pseudo-biopic and/or a goofy fantasy epic. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

This sort of show is usually outside of my wheelhouse, but I got hooked on it pretty quickly and have been a fan though whatever season this is. 6 I think? It's good. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I was a fan for the first two seasons but for whatever reason ( I think just a lack of interest in following any tv from week to week) didn't keep me as a viewer. | |

| So how closely is the show following the books? I've read three of the books, and it followed them pretty well from what I remember. Just curious if it still follows the books or is it going a different direction now? I thought I read somewhere that they were going to change it up because he hadn't finished writing them yet. Great show though no matter if it follows the books or not. I plan on reading them once he finishes the series......IF he finishes the series! | |

| At this point they are taking stuff from Dances with Dragons but mostly its past the books, I am curious on the differences between this season and book 6 whenever its published. but one difference I know i can tell you is the show doesnt have Lady Stoneheart and i dont think the books killed Stannis off either but im still reading book 2 | |

They changed actually quite a lot of things, even though it still closely follows the plot and sticks kinda close to the books This wikia gives a good overview over all the changes made By now i actually prefer the TV Show because the books became worse and worse. The first 3 are great, Feast for Crows was a bit weak and Dance with Dragons was crap, just way too long, you could easily delete a couple hundred pages of Martin being lost in landscape and food descriptions and other non-essential stuff that adds nothing. The first 3 books had a nice pace, the later 2 are just way too slow in my oppinion, the TV show has a quicker pace

| Are we free to discuss the show here? Are folks gonna get their panties in a knot if potential spoilers are revealed? I don't want to start sharing an opinion then have someone get all pissy because they haven't watched it yet.
I will say that while I'm still a fan of the show and will continue to watch, I'm a little disappointed how they brought back Jon Snow. I get that it's a "fantasy show" and a certain suspension of belief has to be employed, but just waving a magic wand and bringing a dead guy back to life was way too convenient and easy. The Red Witch barely broke a sweat. And just like that, it's pretty much forgotten. Like it never happened. Boooooooo to that.
At least when they brought back Sir Gregor the Mountain, they did some Frankensteining and zombied him up. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Maybe there could be a separate thread for discussion of the current season. That thread would by its very nature contain spoilers, so if anyone reads it while not being up to date with the show then they've only got themselves to blame for being spoiled.

When I started this thread I envisioned us being able to discuss it freely, so I did edit the title so peeps are now warned Well the Red Witch was at a position of where if this didnt work then I think her faith would have been dead. Remember the brotherhood of banners? they were doing this without breaking a sweat. Plus Jon hadnt been dead that long, maybe thats a factor.
