| I prefer the 1980s Slipknot and any Cryptic Slaughter influenced band myself compared to many modern "metal" bands. I am unable to get into that music like the way they do.

| Lari, Urban Dictionary is the last place to go for genre tag reference. Consider this submitted definition:
"Kids who listen to Slipknot and Korn and wear those damn baggy ass black pants with a ton of pockets and chains. Oh did i mention that they are fuking gay? Omg look i can fit more slipknot and korn cd's in my super mallcore pockets than you can!!!"

In that case, he should've worded it better than this:

- There's more musical merit in that one crossover EP than the mallcore Slipknot has displayed in 5 albums spanning 15 years.
Whenever I read these kinds of arguments online, I've already concluded that the person I'm discussing music with is using sales figures and other measures of popularity to attempt to justify their band's merit.
You dope. Is this Painkiller guy for real? Were you not the one that posted that "crossover EP" of that 80's band?

You dope. Whenever you read, you apparently do not comprehend. He's saying that the hardcore/thrash crossover band, the Slipknot you say is so great, is better than the modern-day Slipknot. How is this not clear?

| Been a fan of Slipknot since their debut. Actually, Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) was the first album I got from them. Then it just went all around the world from there (considering how far around the world you could have gone with that band at the time in regards to their album releases), jumping straight to their debut, then AHIG, and lastly Iowa.
I realized when I started to learn about their origins how shrouded in mystery they really were. XD

| I'm going to go through my record collection and find out what kind of trousers the fans of each band wear, if I hate the trousers I will never listen to the band again (particularly if you can buy those trousers from a shop I also dislike) In fact, the only thing I'll be wearing is trovsers! | |

| Zombie thread! Back from the dead! Urrrrrrgh!!!
So my 13 year old son has suddenly discovered Slipknot.
Apparently one of his friends at school turned him onto'em. That kinda came out of left field cuz up till this point my son was listening mainly to country radio (ack!) ...tho occasionally he'd ask for recommendations out of my AC/DC and Ramones collections.
I had to laugh when he told me about his new "discovery" though, cuz he started the conversation by saying "Dad, I'm getting into Death Metal." When I sez "Who?" and he said "Slipknot," I sez "Oh good Lord. Whatever you do, don't let your Uncle Brian (my brother, aka the death metal guy in the family) EVER hear you call that band death metal, cuz he'll lecture you for twelve hours about why they're not death metal and you'll never hear the end of it," haha.
They do nothing for me but I figure hey, at least Slipknot are more "real" than that bro-country crap he'd been into, haha. I just told him not to quote any of the lyrics around his 8 year old brother or his Mom, cuz then I'll never hear the end of it.... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Slipknot isn't all bad. They are a good gateway band for kids looking for heavier stuff. _________________ | |

I pulled out a couple of my old Metal Edge and Metal Maniacs magazines from when Slipknot first blew up for my son to check out. In one article the Clown guy (whatever his name is) apparently name dropped a bunch of bands that were his favorites growing up, like Death, Sepultura, Morbid Angel, etc.... so my son started checking some of them out via YouTube. The disease is already spreading. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Slipknot is a great band at times. When they're on...man, they're good. But a lot of their stuff is just a bit of a mess. Not bad, but too busy. For me, anyway. | |

| Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses is both a phenomenal record and their most mature effort to date. The sequencing in that one--like starting off with a "mellow" number--works great and has a haunting effect once over. It's the only album of theirs I listen to anymore.
I agree they're a good gateway, one of the better modern bands to introduce kids to various influences of the past. Your kid is on the right track, FF.

I'm an old fart so all of their stuff sounds like chaos in a blender to me... haha! But I'm not gonna tell him what he can or can't listen to. Shoot, I was just a little bit older than him when I first discovered the Mentors and GWAR...talk about "don't let your Mom hear this!" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
