| SLIPKNOT is a good band. I know their style isn't very popular around here, but after seeing them live I have a newfound respect for them and their talent...I took my son and his buddy to see them and was very impressed...not impressed enough to put all their albums on my iPod, but impressed nontheless...the new album has some good songs on it. |

| What I've heard from this band didn't really do much for me, but I must confess, I've not heard enough to make a completely informed decision. In general nu-metal isn't a style I'm much into. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| I like Slipknot, saw them live and was impressed with the energy, and they have some decent songs. Nowhere near my favorite band but I do spin their CD's on occassion. | |

| I used to hate these guys, but now I don't really mind them much. Nothing I'd want to go out and buy, but decent enough when it comes on the radio. | |

| Not a fan. However, I do like some other nu metal stuff though - like Disturbed. But for some reason Slipknot just doesn't do anything for me. I even saw them live. They were touring with Disturbed last year (I went to see Disturbed and Dragonforce), but even live they did nothing for me. So I left early that night. I can totally see why people would like them though. They are talented with lots of energy. And like Schbopo said - when they come on the radio I won't turn the channel and stuff. | |

| I will say - even though I'm not a fan of Slipknot that Joey Jordison did a fantastic job producing Three Inches of Blood's "Fire Up the Blades" album. He is a great producer! | |

| Since Eyesore left, I'm pretty sure that I'm the only Slipknot fan left (or the most outspoken, at least). Let me just defuse a couple myths that are out there:
1. They're a bunch of hack musicians that somehow got a contract.
Completely false. They are all very talented when it comes to their respected instruments. I think most of this stems from their lack of guitar solos in the first two albums; however, the past two albums do have technically proficient guitar solos. While they are nothing ground-breaking like something my Van Halen or Hendrix, they do show great ability and precision in there execution.
2. They're Nu Metal. Also completely false. I really can't understand why this claim has gained so much traction. While some of their early songs had some traits of the genre, the band, as a musical whole, is nowhere near Nu Metal. Just because a band has some traits of a certain genre doesn't give reason for someone to lump the band lazily into that genre (you wouldn't lump Slayer into the punk genre because they have some punk influence, though that's a bit of a different situation). If Slipknot were to be lumped into any genre, it would have to be an extreme metal genre. Even then, they don't fit a cookie-cutter shaped genre in that form of metal. In the end of the day, Slipknot is Slipknot. There really is no other band like them (depending on your leaning, that's either good or bad).

| I'm sorry I'm gonna have to totally disagree with you XYZ. Just like I disagree with you about Alice in Chains. Neither one of these bands are actually and truly 'metal'. They both have elements of metal in their music. But Slipknot is nu metal - and Alice in Chains is grunge. Sorry - and please know this is only my opinion and that you are free to think how you want to. But most people agree with me. Heck, do a quick check on the Metal Pages. Neither band is included. Also, if you check out wikipedia, both bands are described the way I just described them. | |

So bands can't be more than one genre? At what point does something cease to be grunge and become metal? Personally, I think Alice In Chains would qualify as metal. Yes, they had angsty lyrics, wore plaid and were from Seattle, but that's really where the grunginess ends. Slipknot, although I'm not a fan, don't fall into the cesspool of "nu metal", as they avoid most of the defining features of that genre; mainly the pseudo-rap qualities. Still, even nu metal is a form of metal, like it or not. To be honest, I really don't get what makes something 'nu metal', considering the two leaders of it, Korn and Limp Bizcrap had nothing AT ALL in common.

In my simplistic world, catgorization is really easy. Any band that has vocals that sound like "WOOOOAAAAAARRRRGGGGH" all fall into the same category: "CRAP". That said, I do have some respect for Slipknot because I like one of their offshoot bands To My Surprise. The band definitely has musical talent but any band that uses cookie monster vocals falls into that CRAP bucket for me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I have to disagree with you MB, first term there is no musical genre called grunge, that was a term some lazy ass journalist came up with a lumped a bunch of bands that from Seattle into that label. Two I would consider Alice In Chains a metal band, same with Slipknot, metal encompasses all sorts of influences and sounds. Both are good (actually I think Alice is great) metal bands in my very humble opinion.

Oh but Korn and Limp Biscuit do have something in common. It's called 'alternative rock'. That's the main fiber of nu metal. Nu metal isn't necessarily nu metal because of rap. It's nu metal because of the mixture of alternative and metal. So yes, it has metal in it. But most metalheads don't consider it true metal, because it's been 'tainted'. Personally, I like a lot of alternative stuff. There's nothing to be ashamed of.
