I really liked that one. Nothing original but it captured the period detail perfectly and the cast was above average for a haunted house movie. That hand-clap scene almost gave me a heart attack.

BEVERLY HILLS COP III - rounded out my viewing of the series, and I still say this one is a hoot. By far the most enjoyable in the series, but still lacking some necessary ingredients--the most important being Murphy's humor, which director John Landis foolishly diminishes in favor of comedic send ups. IMO Landis was both the right and wrong guy for the job. His eye for cartoonish humor exceeds Tony Scott's by miles, and his visual flair is better composed than the lackluster Martin Brest, but he has difficulty framing action scenes and juxtaposing comedy with violence. Thus it comes across as only kind of funny and very uneven (the first scene with Serge goes on for way too long and the satire falls flat). Still, we FINALLY get a potent villain who gets under the skin (still, what is it with these movies and the abrupt payoffs where a showdown is proposed and BOOM the villain is shot dead abruptly), the plot is actually engaging even though preposterous, and the whole theme park angle is sheer fun (love Richard Sherman's cameo). Props to Eddie's stuntman for his eye-popping jumps during the breathtaking Spider scene. Enjoyed this one as a kid and enjoy it still today.
ANOTHER 48 HRS. - These movies are so f*cking metal haha. Almost as good as the first one, much more violent (I really do love Walter Hill), Eddie's acting had fully matured by this point, and Steve Souza's script is full of witty, sardonic, biting humor. The whole thing moves like a clownish prison riot and never lets up. I would really love to see a third one of these (but please keep Hill on board!).

"The Wolverine" (2013) The X-Man goes to Japan to repay an old debt and ends up tangling with the Yakuza, ninjas, and the Silver Samurai in this overlong but satisfactory butt kicker loosely based on Wolverine's first solo adventure from 1982.

"Ghost Shark" (2013) A spectral shark chomps on the residents of a seaside community in this supernatural SyFy schlocker that honestly is better than it has any right to be, given the utterly absurd premise. Features genre legend Richard "Night Court" Moll!

"Sharknado 2: The Second One" (2014) in the sequel to SyFy's surprise hit, heroic Fin and April are visiting New York City when history repeats itself and more cheap & cheesy hilarity ensues. Bigger, louder and even goofier than the original, riddled with in jokes and celebrity cameos. My 11 year old and 7 year old sons officially dubbed it "AWWWWESOME!" and better than the original.

The Lego Movie - Never before have I enjoyed a movie so much on first watch that I returned to it the same day. All I can say is I loved this front to back, it is quite amazing, has a great message, and is a most perfect bonding movie if you have children (but works just as well if you don't). Thank God this was made. And cool, the music was scored by Mark Mothersbaugh!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The First One - My wife wanted to revisit these movies so I obliged. More enjoyable than the first time I saw it in theaters, but that's probably because I've been hungry for a good swashbuckler. The plot isn't as convoluted as the sequels, which makes it most enjoyable. The effects are certainly dated, but even as a non-fan of CGI I have to applaud the efforts here. It's quite impressive with the hordes of undead locked in battle and shifting back and forth in the moonlight. Fun stuff. Say, where the F*ck did Orlando Bloom go?
Toy Story 2 - Currently my son's favorite movie, so I've been watching it with him as this is my favorite of the three as well. There's something about the Antique-Woody angle that hooks me. Also gotta love Kelsey Grammar's spin as Stinky Pete. What impresses me about Pixar's work here is how much the camera moves and how the moves are made. It's cohesive, creative direction that often leaves one breathless, even so many years after conception. Brilliant.

Despite my misgivings from the previews, I really liked the character Unikitty, the unstable psychotic in the body of a cute and happy character worked well. Also the pirate, the space guy, Batman, and Good Cop/Bad Cop. The latter was a surprise as Liam Neeson is not really known for comedic performances.

Between the end of the evening news and the start of TNA tonight, I watched several episodes of Twilight Zone including the classics "The Invaders" with a voiceless Agnes Morehead against a seeming invasion of tiny monsters ("World of giants!....") as well as "The Odyssey Of Flight 33" where a "modern day" jet ends up going back to prehistoric times.

I couldn't believe how sorry I felt for Unikitty when she was dealing with the loss of Cuckoo Land. The whole cast was just supreme. My favorite was 1980-something Astronaut guy.

Once I found out Frozen was a musical, I stayed away from it so I don't know any of the songs. My niece (who doesn't like musicals either) said she saw it and found every song to be almost indistinguishable from another.
However, despite my dislike for most modern pop music, the stuff in The Lego Movie wasn't that bad.

Frozen surprisingly has a few good numbers (Snowman, First Time, Summer), an oddity (the trolls' song), one clunker (Love is an Open Door)...and Let it Go, which is hell's motif. It's the one sour note in an otherwise brilliant piece of traditional Disney. The music pretty much sticks to the first half, oddly enough.
