"Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" (2003)
First installment of the blockbuster Disney franchise introduces Johnny Depp's Capt. Jack Sparrow, a down on his luck pirate captain mixed up in some supernatural nonsense involving a cursed treasure and a vengeful ghost ship crew. Entertainingly silly.

Dude, I'm really bummed out. We switched over to direct tv recently to save on cash and it doesn't carry MeTV so I'm no longer able to watch Svengoolie.

Stargate SG1 - Season 9, disc 2
The Ori just don't seem as credible a threat as the Gua'uld. And losing a couple of the cast regulars doesn't help things.

I still haven't seen Man Of Steel but from what I've read of it, going from that to "Quest For Peace" is kinda like going from diamonds to dog sh*t.

The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977)
Frequently inspired sketch comedy film directed by John Landis. The writing team would produce the classic Airplane! next. It had been years since I watched this, still very funny though the Enter The Dragon parody should be about half as long.

'Grabbers' (2013)
In this goofy Irish horror comedy, a horde of multi-tentacled blood sucking sea monsters invade a small island village. Fortunately the local constable (who happens to be a raging booze hound) discovers that alcohol is poisonous to the critters. So to keep everyone safe, the whole village gets extremely drunk in the pub while the police try to figure out how to stop the monster invasion. Funny stuff in the 'Shaun of the Dead' mold.

Silent Running (1972)
Intriguing environmentally-themed sci-fi in which the Earth's foliage has gone extinct, but new forests are being grown in massive greenhouses in outer space. When the crew of one ship receives orders to destroy the greenhouses and return home, one of the astronauts goes 'rogue' and does whatever he can to protect the precious plant and animal specimens. The flick is pretty dated looking now, but features a great performance by Bruce Dern (in what amounts to a one-man show) charming old-school special effects and even a couple of cute robots.

One of my favorite sci-fi movies. Douglas Trumbull ftw.

Douglas Trumbull was one of the main special effects artists on 2001, but he had a significantly smaller budget to work with on Silent Running.
It's still a very cool sci-fi film, I just watched it again a couple months ago.
