Insomniac Double Feature last night:
"The Gingerdead Man" (2005)
The cremated ashes of a serial killer wind up in the seasoning mix at a family-owned bakery, resulting in a real live Cookie Monster - with the voice of Gary Busey. No-budget hilarity ensues as the bakery staff try to avoid being sliced and diced by a walking, talking psycho cookie. I'm not making this up. This notorious cheapie from Charles Band's Full Moon studios has inexplicably spawned two sequels and a crossover film with Band's "Evil Bong" franchise.
"Scarecrow" (2002)
When a small town nerd is accidentally murdered in a cornfield, his spirit inhabits the body of the scarecrow to exact vengeance on all of his tormentors. This is an early film from The Asylum and geez, if people think they suck at making movies NOW, they ought to watch this and learn how far they've come over the years. Pretty much everything about this movie sucked. I've seen pornos with higher production values. AVOID.

Apollo 18
A fairly lame found footage film about the last supposed mission to the Moon. Pretty predictable stuff but it does move along at a pretty brisk pace.

The Military Bowl
Pretty good battle between Marshall and Maryland so far.

I was thinking about starting my "Films of 2013" list but even though I've seen over 70 titles released this year there are still at least a dozen that I feel like I *need* to watch prior to doing any actual rankings. So the 2013 list probably won't happen until January sometime.

After my Saw marathon and my twisted Christmas movies, I'm back to the Stargate SG1 series. I'm into disc 2 of Season 6. This is where Dr. Daniel Jackson has "ascended" (i.e. left the show) and was replaced by Corin Nemec who I swear looks like Charlie Sheen's brother. The transition isn't bad but somehow it's not as smooth as when MASH was able to write characters in and out pretty seamlessly.

i liked Nemec but he suffered from 'he isnt Daniel Jackson' syndrome. The good thing is he can do the convention circuit until he is old and gray.

The stupid thing is that the writing keeps reminding you that he's not DJ. I think they should have just let his character be.

i think that almost fairly early in Season 6 they knew DJ was going to be returning.

"The Hunger Games" (2012)
Blockbuster adaptation of the young-adult novel about a dystopian future society whose youths are forced to battle to the death once per year. Impressive stuff, well acted and action packed. Now I want to see the second one.

Rams vs Seahawks
Seattle's defense dominated this one but lots of weird penalties. There was one play where 4 penalties were called, 3 on the Rams yet somehow they all offset. Then the Rams got called for "verbal abuse of an official"? Who even knew that was actually a penalty?

Well at least I have a vested interest in the NFC this year; I'm cheering for anyone who isn't Seattle!
Unless Dallas somehow squeaks into the playoffs.

"Taken for Ransom" (2013)
Don't ask me why but I actually got involved in this made-for-Lifetime TV melodrama starring Teri Polo ("Meet the Parents"). She's a high powered female exec who gets kidnapped shortly after suffering a personal tragedy. After some time in captivity she begins to suspect that the two events might be related.
The flick is pretty well acted and builds up a pretty decent amount of suspense for most of its run time, unfortunately a totally B.S. "twist ending" straight out of "Scooby Doo" completely kills it. Pffft.
