Since there is enough violence and gore in the bible there should be not much difference between a Christian and a secular band ... . Apart from that, I do not care much about lyrics anyway. For me it makes no difference if I listen to Satan's Host or to a Christian band.

I can listen to a christian band, satanic, or even national socialist. I don't pay much mind to lyrics.

Ult: L'n' J is a full band with a vocalist now. The next album will be a band release with the new singer.

Most metal fans I know also dig classic rock and AOR. Ransom is typically identified as metal from what I've seen (check out "Break into Darkness") and Rez walks that thin line between hard rock and metal.

I only knew of one Christian metal band growing up, which was Stryper, and the only reason I heard of them is when they released 'Soilders Under Command' had begun to get covered by the mainstream metal press.
Later on I heard of the Rez Band (hated them) and popish rock band Petra (not a fan of them either).
I did check out Barren Cross thanks to FF, and I dug those guys, but had no idea how huge the world of Christian metal til I joined this board.

Back in the 80's me and my friends not only fell for the line about Christian metal being copy cats but for some reason we also thought they just took the actual music and just changed the lyrics. No clue where we got that notion.
Eventually I came across Believer and heard some of it. Opened up a whole new realm for me.
For the longest time I thought Stryper's Honestly was Styx.

Ransom were as metal as any L.A. strip band out of the 80's. Very glammy. Fantastic guitar player!
Rez has their metal moments but definitely fall closer to bluesy hard rock. They are one of my favorite Christian bands.

I think I started something I did not intend. I was reading the list and read some of the band names and artists and I got a kick out of it I wasn't trying to point out that they are not metal Though I would consider Ransom a form of it It was not my intent. Originally I had a long list of non metal artists like CARMAN hehe I listened to alot of the non metal and metal artists in my youth. Please dont degenerate into my post from this morning as it was NOT intended to be a "genre nazi" I hate labels myself. I think this is a fun topic and I hope it gets back on track. Brings back alot of nostalgia.

My first exposure to Christian rock was Petra's Not of This World, a fantastic record but pretty damn mellow. When I started listening to AC/DC at 13 she bought me Petra's Fired Up on tape because she was afraid of me getting aids; I mean of me turning from God (and I wasn't even a believer in the first place). It was pretty hard stuff at the time for me first getting into rock. Guardian followed. And then Tourniquet. And so forth.
Best thing about Christian music were the Christian bookstores where you could spin the CD before buying it. This was years before Blockbuster Music tried the same thing! Ingenious!

He did, which got them some Rush comparisons. Couldn't hear it myself.
I'd add Detritus to the list as well. British thrash with a killer second album!

My first Christian Rock tape I got was Phil Keaggy's Play Thru Me it remains one of my favorite Christian Rock albums to this date. My First Christian Metal tape was Stryper (Soliders, THWTD, TYABA) but I think my first taste of "extreme" Christian Metal was Sacrament or Vengence Rising. I still listen to some of these oldies but goodies mostly depends on my mood. Deliverance is almost an always constant in my play lists.
Petra is a good one too. I do love Not of this World its a good album as is More Power To Ya, and Beat the System . I got to see Petra live once, when I went to Creation 90 along with the Newsboys and Rachel Rachel and Whitecross. It was at Creation I first heard of Tourniquet , I got Stop the Bleeding while at Creation just because I liked the album cover. I love that album
Ahhhh memories

I personally don't believe that "Christian metal" exists. It's Metal with Christian lyrics. You got band's like Stryper and then you have a band like Antestor to me it seems very undefined musically same with Viking metal but that's another topic.
Personally I don't like Stryper but I really enjoy Antestor, Extol, Mortification, and Ultimatum those are band's with Christian lyrics.

I recently got turned on to Reign Radio through FB. I have since dropped my FB account but I listen to that internet radio station as often as possible. Its available through their website (http://www.reignradio.com/index.html) or as an iPhone app. they offer 2 stations, Christian Metal and Classic Christian Rock. I don't listen to the metal one very often as it is mostly modern stuff (read metalcore) but the classic station is fantastic. Just today I have heard Halo, X-Sinner, Mastedon, Bare Bones (Mike Lee had another band, who knew about this gem?) and stuff like that. I have heard Deliverance, Ransom, Jag, Petra, Zion (Freakin Fantastic classic metal that I had not heard before) and all sorts of gems. I love it. As I am typing this, No Love by Deliverance comes on.
