Yes it was that bad and even worse. Sabbath is my all time favorite band and this album is a real pile of shit!!! The riffs are ok at times, but the songs as a whole are lame and with Ice T on it doing guest vocals just completely RUINS this!

I did not care for the album at the time of its release, and while my view of the album has softened a bit, I now sort of like it, it is still the worst album in Black Sabbath's otherwise awesome discography

A guest appearance on 1 song cannot ruin an album. It can ruin a SONG, but not an entire album.

BTW, it wasn't just him appearing on that track, in fact, that wasn't the bad part at all, it was the way they had Tony singing on it, some sort of pseudo rap?!

Ice-T wasn't really rapping in "The Illusion of Power", he was doing more of a spoken word passage, if I recall correctly. I don't remember too much of the album, but remember no rapping or pseudo-rapping sections from Tony at all.

I was expecting Body Count to open for Sabbath that tour. It could of been called the "Black and Black Tour"

Certainly not the style of singing/vocalizing Tony has ever done before or after!

Still, not that awful, but had the potential to be the best track on there!

I remember when Metal Maniacs reviewed the post-Ozzy era albums and Forbidden was hailed as the worst, Someone wrote in and said, "As for the Forbidden album,The Illusion of Power is one of the best songs Sabbath ever recorded."

I saw the Forbidden tour in Seattle, the only time I saw the Tony Martin lineup. It was a good show, Martin had not an ounce of stage charisma but sang capably enough. Motorhead was the opening act.
Sabbath performed three songs from the album; Get A Grip, Rusty Angels and Can't Get Close Enough

I have a dvd of the tour, think it was from somewhere in Europe, they did four from that lp then. Really dug their version of "The Wizard!"
I saw Tony Martin on the "Headless Cross" tour, fantastic show!

I like Forbidden and never really understood the disdain for it. They're all pretty good songs, I think. Their best ? No way. But I don't think it's the worst. I'd probably say Never Say Die ! is Sabbath's weakest.

It's probably the least "Sabbath Sounding" lp...

I think "Technical Ecstasy" is their weakest.

I like Never Say Die and Technical Ecstasy. Forbidden is their weakest, but I still like some of it as well.

I used to feel that way, but there are lot of good songs IMO on that album. Still IMO the worst album from the Ozzy era.

It ruined the song and the album. That's my opinion.
I was trying to be nice. But **** it then! This album sucks immensely! The production sucks, the songs suck, the feeling of the album sucks, the singing is boring, and I can still go on! The only redeeming quality are like 3 or 4 killer riffs.

I don't think it's a very good album either, but I do like 2 songs (that I posted earlier).
The only album with Tony Martin that I like all the way through is The Eternal Idol (and I prefer the rough mix with Ray Gillen). The rest of the albums I can cherry pick certain songs from and put together a decent compilation disc.

"Headless Cross" is a classic, better than a few of any Sabbath lp's!

Headless Cross is my favorite Tony Martin-era album, followed by Tyr. I do like The Eternal Idol as well, though.
