I don't really mind it all that much. It could have been better but it just suffered too much from "modern Hollywood-ism",for lack of a better term. Out of the three flicks, it's the least of them, I think.
Actually, the least of them would be The Asylum's "I Am Legend" rip-off, "I Am Omega," starring Mark Dacascos of "Iron Chef America" fame. It actually makes the Will Smith version look good.
I'm not gonna argue with that. I've never seen it but knowing the Asylum's track record , it's gotta be a real stinker.

It's a hoot, but not in a good way. I'm only familiar with Mark Dacascos from his long run as the nephew of "The Chairman" on "Iron Chef America," so after years of knowing him for biting into vegetables and screaming "ALLEZ CUISINE!" at the top of his lungs, it was kinda weird watching him nun-chuckin' and kicking tons of zombie ass. Haha.

"Death Wish" (1974)
Legendary tough guy Charles Bronson stars in his most iconic role as Paul Kersey, a mild mannered New York architect who turns pistol-packin' vigilante after his wife and daughter are victimized by muggers. Compared to its sequels, which quickly devolved into by-the-numbers action-movie self parodies, "Death Wish" is more of a gritty crime drama, set in a New York City that was a lot darker and scarier than it is today. Still gripping even after all these years.
Useless trivia, watch for a young Jeff Goldblum as one of the punks who attacks Kersey's family, and Christopher "Nigel Tufnel" Guest as an NYPD patrolman.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Freddy "Boom Boom" Washington of 'Welcome Back Kotter' one of many muggers that got gunned down too? It's been years since I saw that movie. One of my father's favorites.

He may have been, I haven't seen "Kotter" since I was a kid so even if he was, I wouldn't have recognized him.
Wikipedia sez that a young Denzel Washington (!) also made his film debut in Death Wish as one of the muggers killed by Kersey, which was news to me (I hadn't seen the movie in 20+ years either). I was gonna call B.S. on that at first but it's also listed in his IMDb filmography (it sez he was "uncredited"). Either way, I didn't recognize him either. (The only reason I knew to look for Christopher Guest was cuz I saw his name in the opening credits.) You learn something new every day.
Oddly enough, I've seen most of the "DW" sequels numerous times over the years (especially "3" and "4: The Crackdown," which used to play on cable constantly), so I'm more familiar with those. The sequels are all pretty cookie-cutter, by-the-numbers shoot'em up action flicks, ("3" is so over-the-top and cartoonish that it's kind of awesome in a stupid sort of way, though) so I'd actually forgotten that the original "DW" was a more serious crime thriller.

According to this clip, Denzel's one of the 3 but it's kinda hard to tell. Some folks might say, "He's the black one." Or "They all look the same". But not me. I'm not going there, Whitey.
I think he's the one on the right, the 2nd one that gets shot.

It's gotta be this scene, cuz on IMDb it lists his part as "Alley Mugger #1." At first glance I thought he was the guy in the middle, in the green jacket (first one to catch a bullet) but some of the people commenting under this clip agree with you that he's the one in the black leather jacket.. Kinda hard to tell in a small YouTube window, of course.
Doggone it, now I'm gonna have to re-watch this scene before I return the DVD to the library.

Has one of my most favorite Red Dwarf episode, Queeg.
Lister: Look at what he's given me for dinner: a pea on toast. One pea. I tell you, I'm that far from cracking. [goes to squish the pea; it snaps away] I've lost my pea! Oh, that's it! I've cracked.
Rimmer: He's just doing this to destroy your morale.
Lister: Is he? Well, I want my pea back. It's my pea. I earned that pea. Where is it? I don't care if it's on the floor all covered in fluff, if it's under the bed with my toenail clippings, I don't care where it is -- it's my pea, I earned it, and I'm going to eat it no matter what!
Rimmer: It flew off into your dirty-sock basket.
Lister: I'll just have the toast

Star Trek TNG - Season 2, disc 4. The introduction of The Borg. I'd never seen this episode before and had no idea it was Q's fault The Borg learned of humans.
