| I'm so annoyed that the one I preordered from the offical website has LESS TRACKS than the best buy version. So I guess next week i'll be venturing out to get the Best Buy version and buy this album again. (So if anyone wants to trade something for my current copy PM me).
Anyway. Great album. I think the opening track was the weakest track and it goes uphill all the way until the end. I love how they ended the album on the bells and storm from the song Black Sabbath, although it also makes me a little sad, because it makes me feel like they think this will be their last one.

Well is it really surprising that most teen girls don't particularly like Black Sabbath?

Interesting. I was thinking the same thing about the outro too.

Volume 4 was ok. but it is nothing compared to the magical HEADLESS CROSS and TYR which i consider to be the best Sabbath albums. Tony Martin is far better than Ozzy. Don't get me wrong, i love Ozzy and will still buy his albums. But let's face it, he has totally lost his voice.

He has not "totally" lost his voice. Judging by your statements, and there's nothing wrong with preferring Tony Martin to Ozzy, you have no hope of ever liking this album. IMO, you can't compare Ozzy to any other Sabbath singer. EVERY Sabbath singer after Ozzy was a WAY better singer than him because they actually WERE singers. Dio, Gillan, Martin, Hughes...all WORLD CLASS singers in every sense. Ozzy was never what they are, and he never tried or pretended to be. BUT, he was part of what made Sabbath stand out when they arrived on the scene. His delivery, character and vibe are what helped define Sabbath's sound. Just like Lemmy, Vince Neil, David Lee Roth, Brian Johnson, and others, he's not a "singer"...but what he contributes in terms of vibe and personality cannot be understated. _________________ FINAL SIGN

| His vox was once described as a "mad prophet crying in the wilderness." I'd say that's spot on, and did indeed fit their sound...much in the same way Roger Martinez fit VR.
Tony Martin struggles w/ his vocals live, and he'd be the first to tell you that...

Also...is this message board shaking for anyone else?

| Also, I decided I do quite like most of 13. I don't really care for the three "bonus" tracks that much. They are ok, but nothing special. Most of the regular 8 songs are pretty damn good though. | |

Have you considered switching to decaf? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

Have you considered switching to decaf? Ha, it is seriously shaking. Like the screen is just getting wider, then smaller, wider. Only site it's happening on...so weird.

- I think i'm agreeing with Lurideath so far. Good but not blowing me away and I think it's the lack of tempo change throughout most of the album. Live Forever is good, gets a little speedier but overall it's very slow chugga chugga. Almost like a Place of Skulls album.
First impressions are pretty good. I'm picking up on enough tempo changes that it doesn't sound slow to me. I'm digging it so far and I haven't popped in the 2nd bonus disc yet. My only grip (and it's a minor one at best), is putting 'Zeitgeist' in the middle. I might have put it as the last track. It would have capped off things nicely. Cool tune too. I like the 'Planet Caravan' vibe. Turn on the lava lamp and spark one up. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | On the LP "Zeitgeist" is the last song on side 2. I think it works great in the middle of the album, a nice change of pace. Plus it's great being able to hear Iommi break out his Django Rheinhardt inspired jazz chops again.
That and the blues jam on "Damaged Soul" really make this album special for me, Iommi hasn't been able to stretch out in that style for YEARS.
And he's a really good blues/jazz guitarist in addition to the usual monolithic crush he's associated with. |

| Damaged Soul is my favorite track by a mile and is the most bluesy of the bunch. SD's right about the solo--it's pure passion. And that harmonica!!!
About the only thing I miss here is the love-it-or-hate-it layered solos that Tony was known for. They were messy but fun.

| In case anyone is interested here is the dynamic range comparison of the LP vs. the CD (which is heavily compressed). This is the first 1:45 of Age Of Reason. CD - Dynamic Range = 5 LP - Dynamic Range = 10 |
