Listening to the single now (finally), love it. Yes, it has an Ozzy-solo quality to it,
Seriously, in what way? I've seen people say this and I do not hear it at all...not even a hint. I don't see how anything written by Tony Iommi & Geezer Butler (Ozzy most likely did not even write the lyrics) can sound like anything OTHER than Iommi & Butler. How does this song sound like something written by Bob Daisley, or Randy Rhoads, or Jake E Lee, or Zakk Wylde?
It's not the song, the song is Sabbath all the way. It's something with Ozzy, maybe the production or his melody choice. I really can't put my finger on it. Doesn't bother me, though. BTW, I'm surprised no one is talking about the lack of a solo.
I hear it too, the over produced layered vocals, put way too upfront.

Other than the minor gripe I have with Ozzy's vocal production, this is a great song. Looking forward to release day.

It's Ozzy's vocal style these days, that's what I'm hearing. I like the song. Why release this so far in advance. Now I want to hear the whole album. I don't want to wait.

Which is what we want Sabbath to sound like.
I do not hear, at all, how this sounds like later Ozzy solo or "modern" production in any way...both songs sound like Sabbath.
Same here. I like both tunes but I'm not hearing a Ozzy-solo connection at all. Sounds like Sabbath to me.

1.War Pigs 2.Into the Void 3.Under the Sun 4.Snowblind 5.Electric Funeral 6.Black Sabbath 7.Behind the Wall of Sleep 8.N.I.B. 9.End of the Beginning 10.Fairies Wear Boots 11.Symptom of the Universe ( Instrumental) 12.Drum Solo 13.Iron Man 14God Is Dead? 15.Dirty Women 16.Children of the Grave 17.Paranoid
Wow, that's a HEAVY set list!!
Really want to see it now, really want to hear them perform Electric Funeral!
One small niggle is the inclusion of a drum solo. Why? Lots of people are still sore over the Bill saga. The new guy should just play the songs (which he does well) and keep a low profile.

They are swapping out new songs night by night, they've also performed one of the bonus tracks in the setlist. I wish they'd do a couple more of the new tracks but the pressure to play the standards for the fans I'm sure looms large.
The drum solo gives the old geezers (including Geezer) the chance to take a short break, not unexpected.

Never thought of that.
I've now heard them performing Electric Funeral and I'm tempted to take back the part about the drummer doing a good job. There are parts of the bridge that really call for some jazzy swing, but he attacks his kit like he's playing with Voivod! It's kind of fun but leaves the performance lacking

Brad Wilk played on the album, is playing the live gigs too or did they bring back Tommy Clueless?

I'm pretty sure it's Tommy on the tour.

In other news, Rick Rubin explains why he wanted Ginger Baker to play on the album. Whether it would have worked or not, who knows? But his reasoning makes sense I guess...
Quote :
The producer came up with a list of names including the Cream icon after Bill Ward withdrew from the project. And even though Sabbath vetoed the idea, Rubin had a good reason for putting it forward.
He tells Mojo: “He was on the list I submitted to them. Certain people were dismissed outright by the band, based on having dealt with them on the past, or the baggage. It wasn’t always about drumming ability.
“He was on my list because I wanted to get someone who had grown up in the same world as them, and who jammed the way they did. There aren’t many of those people left. Most of them are dead.
“I was asking: who grew up listening to the same music as them? Who played in bands where they jammed back then? It’s a very different thing from the way hard rock and heavy metal drummers play today. That’s the kind of drummer I was looking for.”
Sabbath eventually settled on Rage Against The Machine sticksman Brad Wilk, another suggestion of Rubin’s. “Of all the people I heard them play with, Brad had the best feel,” the producer recalls. “I got chills when I heard him play with them.
“There were some other very good drummers but there wasn’t that emotional connection or that tension that you need, musically speaking. To me every great band has emotional side. When Brad played with Sabbath you could feel that there was something pulling them. He had that emotional connection.”
He says everyone involved in the making of 13 was surprised when Ward decided not to take part because he hadn’t been offered a contract he felt was “signable.” Rubin explains: “I would love Bill to have been involved, and that was always the intention. When he decided not to be, it really took everyone by surprise.
“It was a case of ‘What do you want to do? We have all these songs – but what’s the process going forward?’ The band said they wanted to continue. Then it was a question of trying to find a drummer who could allow them to continue to do it.”
That wasn’t the only moment of doubt: “When I started working with them, they really hadn’t worked together in such a long time,” the producer says. “It was almost a case of red light fever. There was an anticipatory anxiety among different members of the band; they were worrying about whether it would be any good, and whether they were up to the task. The history and myth of Sabbath loomed large and everybody really wanted to do it justice. No one wanted to do it just for the sake of it. The idea was that we were only going to do this as long as this was going to be as good an album as they’ve ever made.”

Ozzy is high or drunk. You can hear it in his voice.
These guys need to tour out this album, then reform Heaven and Hell with Jorn on vocals.

But listen to the band. Tight as hell. Ozzy has skated through his career on the backs of his musicians and this is a prime example of this practice.

If you read the youtube comments there are some folks who were allegedly at this concert and praise his efforts beyond these two songs. There's a full version available which apparently shows Ozzy in full form, except for in this case. I can only hope so.

In an era when even Metallica aren't selling out their shows, this on YouTube could be really bad news for the tour.
Then again, it's Sabbath.
