Tried a White Zombie Ale at last night's Lich King/Possessor show.

I just picked up the Sam Adams Summer Variety pack. 2 bottles each of 6 kinds of beer, one of which is called Belgian Session. Never had a Sam Adams Belgian before so I'm trying that one first.
Just took my first taste and it tastes like what it is, a now big brewer trying to recapture their lost craft-brewing days. Unfortunately this still tastes like a massively "dumbed-down" version of a Belgian.

Then I shall stay away from it. I think I'll just stick with Abbey and Unibroue. Speaking of which, last night I had the Maudite and toningh this most recent one. Unlike the Maudite, this one seems to have a lingering aftertaste that is actually welcomed. Usually a beer aftertaste is most unpleasant, but I'm actually liking this one.

Next time you're at your beer store, see if you can find this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1534/6947
It's Gouden Carolus with a blue sash over the label that says "cuvee van de keizer". That's my favorite Belgian. It's in a big bottle though, not a 4pack.

Found a new one from Schlafly today: Schlafly Golden Ale Belgian Style.
This is a Belgian pale ale. While I prefer Belgian dark ales, this isn't bad. It definitely has the fruity nose and initial taste of a Belgian but the finish is a little too dry for my tastes.

Wasn't able to find that one unfortunately. And since trying out other beers doesn't seem to pan out to well, I stuck with what I know:
and
While I like the Unibroue more, at $12 a four pack it's a pretty pricey beer habit. Abbey is still pretty good and only about $9 a six pack.

I totally agree DB. Abbey is very good and has a much better price point than Maudite.
I picked up some more Maudite myself on my beer run today.
EDIT: Trying another new one: another entry from Boulevard Brewery's Smokestack Series, "Coffee Ale". I love my coffee beers!

This coffee ale is really different! I've had dozens of coffee stouts but this coffee ale is a different animal. It still had the distinctive coffee flavor but doesn't have the heavy finish of a stout. I will be picking up more of this.

Got a bottle of Moylan's Kilt Lifter because it's snowing again and I've got demons in my head and I figure that beer might kill them off. Please let the snow stop! I've got less than two bales of hay left for my goats and the pasture isn't growing at all yet. Any more snow and I'll have to feed them telephone books and toilet paper. Or I might have to give the goats the beer (they love it but it makes them fight and butt).

I thought goats were content to eat anything? Why not pick up some dry dog or cat food or something; anything to get them through until the pasture starts growing.

They need a lot of fiber. I've got alfalfa cubes for horses which they might eat if they are really hungry. And they do actually love beer, I'm not kidding about that.

They make high-fiber pet food. In fact I have to feed my cat Godiva the high fiber food from the vet to keep her regular...more or less.

Thanks Toho, you gave me a good idea. I'm thinking rabbit food. Won't have the meat byproducts that cat food has.

Tried the Sam Adams Alpine Spring; disappointment, too much like a malt for what it's supposed to be (a smooth, only partial malt). Not notable at all. Of course, I didn't read Toho's input on the seasonals before this.

Every Sam Adams I've tried has been too bitter for me or had too bad of an aftertaste. I've tried about seven of them and have concluded that Sam Adams is not for me. Heck, all big name beers aren't.

Yeah. Probably the biggest name I like (a lot) is Guinness, the stout when I can get it. I'm usually after a hefe weisse from Ayinger.

I've heard the 2013 Stone Russian Imperial Stout is out. I'm going to see if I can find it today. This is the best RIS for the money IMO. (don't bother DB, way too bitter for ya).

Well, I picked up a case of 2013 Stone Russian Imperial Stout. I hope it's as good as the 2012 version was. And at $5.99 for a 22oz bottle, it's very reasonably priced.
