Samuel Adams Octoberfest tonight

Splurged on a 12 pack of Sam Adams Summer Ale this afternoon... tasty stuff.

My fellow beer snob and Schlafly fan at work agrees that this year's Pumpkin Ale tastes different. He thinks it might be because the pumpkins didn't have as good a flavor as usual due to the summer drought we've had.

Are they hothouse grown? Seems a little early for pumpkins from this year.

No clue but this year's batch of pumpkin ale definitely is not up to the standards of prior years. I'm really disappointed in it.

i hope this doesnt carry over into the Christmas Ale....

I'll probably stick with trying different stouts and porters like I usually do in the fall. Oatmeal stout screams fall to me.

I generally like lagers so that sounds good to me.

I just tried the Sam Adams "Harvest Pumpkin Ale" and thought it was decent. Then I followed it up with a Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale and it ain't even close. Even this year's weaker Schlafly's blows Sam Adams outta the water.

I want to try some Imperial Pumpkin ale. A two of the Schlaflys I am pretty happy with the taste.

I looked for that at my favorite beer store but they didn't have it. Then again, they didn't have Southern Tier's Pumking yet either so maybe later. I haven't had Pumking but I've been told it's the king of pumpkin ales and since I've become a fan of Southern Tier, I'm on the hunt for it.

You might be able to find Southern Tier beers up your way exact since, the name notwithstanding, Southern Tier is a Northeast brewery.

cool. Ill take a look. I went to my place tonight and the owner said next friday he expects to have all his pumpkin ale brands in and he is going to do a free tasting.

He too said Schlaflys was different this year. He said this was his favorite so far:

My buddy bought me Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock Ale yesterday at 12% alcohol and man am I buzzed in a good way. I'm literally sweating right now. This beer just hit the spot after a great BBQ.

Well I found Southern Tier's "Pumking" and it has the opposite problem of the Schlafly's; it's too pumpkin-y. So what I've been doing is mixing the two and that pretty much tastes like Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale is supposed to taste.

I like Brooklyn's Post Road Pumpkin ale. Its not as zesty as Schlaflys. Will Schlaflys do more batches of pumpkin ale and correct the issue?
