Havent had the Belgian yet, but since it's the same brewer as Maudite, I have high hopes for it. As for the milk stout, aside from a hint of bitterness, it is much sweeter than the other one I had and tastes like what I origionally thought a milk stout would taste like. I'm drinking it in a Medival Times goblet (we went there this afternoon) and really enjoying it as the bitterness has diminished greatly. That was my first milk stout and still a favorite. Also, enjoy La Fin Du Monde ("The End Of The World"). EDIT: and with this stuff, the glass DOES make a difference. I use a goblet I got in a St. Bernardus gift pack (a brewery specializing in Belgian ales). _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Tonight, since it's after supper, I'm indulging in: No "bitterness" here DB; nothing but sweet chocolate goodness. This and their Creme Brulee are the very definition of "dessert beer". Way too sweet to be drunk with anything else. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

EDIT: and with this stuff, the glass DOES make a difference. I use a goblet I got in a St. Bernardus gift pack (a brewery specializing in Belgian ales). I noticed. When I had a sip from the beer, there was no bitterness whatsoever. After putting it in a wide beer glass (a Stella Artois Belgium one) it caused a slight bitterness. I may have to get another glass. I have a pilsner glass, but the Unibrough beers tell you not to use one of those. I'd try my Mideival Times goblet but it gives a slight metallic taste (which strangely enough, works real well with that milk stout). I'll just drink the Belgian's in their bottle for now.

| I'm a little drunk after my newest beer haul. I stopped by Kroger and got a pick and choose variety pack. The first three failed and while I won't waste my time mentioning them, I will say if I go to a grocery store and see a Belgian beer that isn't Unibroue or Abbey I will pass it over. Also I don't think I'm much of a German beer fan as one of them was and I didn't like it at all. One was accidently a repeat of one of the failed ones and one remains to be tasted but I finally found one I could drink all the way: Not a great beer by any stretch, but at least made my purchase not a total waste of money. From now on, all my beer buying will be restrained to liquor stores as most grocery stores don't have a very good selection. Unless you like drinking horse piss . | |

| Wise decision. I very seldom get beer at the grocery store (except for Unibroue and Schlafly). _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Tried this the other night. A little bitter at first taste but that gets washed away by the banana aftertaste. Not bad but not something I'd get too often;it just something I tried on a whim. | |

From now on, all my beer buying will be restrained to liquor stores as most grocery stores don't have a very good selection. Unless you like drinking horse piss . The final beer in that failed batch was the crowning jewel: Turns out it is a semi-Belgian style beer (though low in alcohol-4.9% ALC). I prefer the real stuff but this will do in a pinch. BTW, anybody have any thougts on: I like Abbey but can't find it at grocery stores, but I saw this at a Kroger. I'm going to try to make it to Specs Beer & Wine tomorrow but if I don't get around to it, I'm thinking of giving this one a shot. It's not rated much lower than Abbey and it is also a Belgian style): http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/1054

| Yeah, "trippel" is a Belgian style (as is "dubbel" and "quad"). Generally the ABV is the only difference I can tell. Except this one has coriander in it which I didn't like. It's OK but I could have done without the spice. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Didn't get it after all. I almost did as Specs only had that one and not Abbey. However, I decided to try another Unibroue (as well as Maudite): http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/30

| Another fine flavor of Unibroue. I'd rank this between the Maudite and the La Fin Du Monde. My next Unibroue I will try is the: That is the other flavor they have of the stronger ones. Not quite sure about the Blanche de Chambly which is the weakest availiable. | |
