I will check out the one you suggested. As for dark beers, I've liked the Vanilla Porter and the Oatmeal Stout but I'd still say I'm on the fence in my preference. I like beers with taste and little or no bitterness. I have to of course because I don't drink to get drunk (though it wouldn't take much as usually I only need one beer to feel a buzz).

Yep, you have to watch the ABV on the Belgians. The one I'm drinking now (Gouden Carolus - my favorite) weighs in at 10% ABV. These Belgians are definitely not "session beers" (i.e., beers to get drunk on); one drinks them for the taste.

That's how I like it. If I wanted to drink to get drunk, I'd just have a few long island iced teas.

Went ahead and had me a SS Oatmeal Stout. A tad more bitter than I remember, but not enough to turn me off of it.

Really enjoying my Belgians (Maudite more than Abbey). Great tasting beers with no bitterness whatsoever. Maudite also has a great bouquet as well.

That brewery has a couple other similar ones you might like. "Trois Pistoles" and "La Fin Du Monde". Same Belgian base with slightly different flavors.

And they have some of the coolest labels around.

Totally missed the Killen reference when this was posted.

As for Missisippi Mud...it's OK. I'm generally not big on straight-up Stouts, but I do like the occasional Black & Tan (Saranac makes a good one also)..

I love that "jug" style bottle. I hung onto an empty one, I keep it on my nightstand to keep my pennies, nickels, etc. in.

I was off today so I made a run to my favorite beer store on the other side of the river. I picked up some interesting finds including an Old Ale brewed with molasses and a nut brown ale brewed with roasted coconut. Also picked up a slew of Belgians and Stouts that I haven't tried before.

And on my way back I stopped at the grocery store and picked up a bottle of Trois Pistoles and La Fin Du Monde.

My mom bought this for me once about a decade ago from Trader Joe's or some place like that. Don't quite remember what it tasted like, but I think it's the only black and tan I've ever had.

Mississippi Mud is delicious, and cheap! They're only a couple of bucks from Trader Joe's.

My newest beer buy:



Havent had the Unibroue yet, but since it's the same brewer as Maudite, I have high hopes for it. As for the milk stout, aside from a hint of bitterness, it is much sweeter than the other one I had and tastes like what I origionally thought a milk stout would taste like. I'm drinking it in a Medival Times goblet (we went there this afternoon) and really enjoying it as the bitterness has diminished greatly.
