I tried aging that stuff before and it didn't end well.

i opened up a pumpkin ale tonight and aging it, as you said, didnt end well. It was really lousy tasting.

i was just trying to make it go a little longer so i could enjoy it in the new year. Oh well. the Christmas Ale is still good as ever.

I haven't tried aging the Christmas Ale. I only have 3 left so I don't think I'll find out if it ages well or not.
The way the pumpkin ale ages is really odd because usually the higher ABV beers age well. I can only assume it's all the spices and pumpkin that make that one go bad after about 6 months.

I dont think my Christmas Ale will make it much longer either.

Back to the Founders Breakfast Stout.
I just checked reviews on this beer and it's raved over on both RateBeer and BeerAdvocate. Between this one, their Imperial Stout and their Backyard Bastard, I think I have a new favorite brewery.

Tonight it's the last of the first case i bought of this winter seasonal from Southern Tier. (DB, I wish you could taste this; it might change your opinion of stouts):

Haven't tried that one but some of the chocolate stouts are amazing.

This one is the apex of "amazing". Best chocolate stout I know of.
Mega-chocolaty without tasting like Yoohoo; it still tastes like a beer. Just a really semi-sweet chocolate beer.

EDIT: Last year I bought several bottles, drank them, went to get more and it was gone. This year I didn't take any chances; i bought 2 cases as soon as it came in. The cool thing is that because it's 11% ABV, I can leave this stuff sit for years and it won't get skunky.

You've had Rogue haven't you? They have a good one though it's only 6% ABV.

I've had Rogue's Chocolate Stout and their Double Chocolate Stout. Both are tasty.

I'm a huge fan of almost all things Rogue. The Oatmeal is especially winsome.

The only Rogue I couldn't get up the nerve to try was the maple bacon one in the pink bottle (I forget the name).

Every Friday our local Fox station's news team sets up a crew at a neighborhood landmark. Today they're in Maplewood at the Schlafly Bottleworks. Lots of Schlafly beer EVERYWHERE!

Just got back from Sam's and they had the Sam Adams Spring Thaw variety pack in a 24pk for $22. I think I'm going to hate the Double Agent IPL (yep, India Pale LAGER) but I'm really anxious to try the Maple Pecan Porter. Eh, at less than $1 per bottle, how bad can it be?

I already have a breakfast beer; Founders Breakfast Stout, a coffee, chocolate and oatmeal stout. Now THAT's breakfast!

Later today (morning for me) I will check out the liquor store near my mom's house (I'm visiting this weekend) and see whether I can find an oatmeal stout or a belgium and see how my taste buds react.
