| Just in case you need a reason to drink some beer tonight: Today (Jan. 24th) is Beer Can Appreciation Day, commemorating the fact that on this date in 1935, the Krueger Brewing Company of Newark, NJ (yay Jersey) became the very first brewer to offer its product in cans. Hooray beer! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| For some reason, I just can't get into stouts as I find them way too bitter. However, I really would like to try a milk stout as I hear they tend to be sweeter. Unfortunatly, I have never found a milk stout in any liquor or beer store I've been to. Must be something you can only get in Europe. | |

You'd probably dig a milk stout. One you should be able to get pretty much anywhere is Left Hand Milk Stout (I first got it at World Market of all places). Look for the beer with the cow on the label. If you like coffee you'd like this Founders Breakfast Stout too. It's a double chocolate, coffee and oatmeal stout (hence the name "breakfast"). Nobody hates bitter beers more than I do; I think you just haven't met the right stout yet. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| And I'm getting ready to crack open Southern Tier's "Choklat". Man, I wish you could taste this DB but it's hard enough to find around here. It's a stout brewed with bittersweet Belgian chocolate. | Well, I didn't find the one you suggested, but I did find a milk stout. I stopped by Spec's to check out their beers (not expecting to find anything) and found this: Just put it in the fridge and have one later today (right now it's the equivelant to the afternoon on my overnight schedule-just now eating brunch. | |

| Definitely sounds like a good one. Let us know what you think. EDIT: One word of advice, be careful how much of that milk stout you drink. I see it's at 8.5%ABV; most of what you're use to drinking probably weighs in at 5.5% or less. If this new one is smooth, the ABV can sneak up on you. Take it from the voice of experience. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Well, once again a stout has proven too bitter for my taste. However, I found that if I add a little chocolate milk, the bitterness is greatly reduced. I think that with this additive and a proper beer glass, I may be albe to enjoy this one. | |

| Well, down the last 1/4 th of the beer and it's just not working. I will try to find that Left Hand but if not or it doesn't work for me, I may just have to give up on stout. However, oatmeal stout may be an option as I found out they are supposed to be even sweeter than the milk stouts. If those options don't work out, I'll stick with lager. | |

| Sounds like you just don't like stouts. Or you may just not be used to "real beer". For comparison, try an India Pale Ale; now that's bitter. But lots of people love IPAs and don't dig stouts so maybe you're one of them. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Ah, the Long Island Tea......my mixed drink of choice back when I was still drinking.......just add a little splash of Pepsi to give it a little color and It's perfect.

Probably more the latter. I might just need to devolpe a taste of stout. Tha's why I'll give an oatmeal stout a try and see if I can make my up to a milk stout. Sad to say this but I tried the milk stout again today and I think I'd prefer a shot of vodka instead (and I don't much like straight up liquor). I had and enjoyed a Honey Brown lager earlier today. Maybe I should just stick with that. However, I'm stubborn and will continue to try and adjust my pallet for different beers.

| It's not a total loss. The milk stout creates some pretty tasty burps. | |

| Might just be your taste in beer styles. I don't like IPAs at all but I love stouts, porters and Belgians. Here's a Belgian you should be able to find; from New Belgium Brewery (the makers of Fat Tire): _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Belgians might be more up your beer alley DB. They have a fruity taste that comes not from fruit flavors but from the kind of hops they use. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Went on a late night beer run (less than an hour before the 1 a.m. deadline) looking for a belgium as suggested by Toho. Unfortunatly, Tom Thumb had less of a beer selection than Wal-Mart or Kroger. The closest thing I found was this: Turns out this is a mass produced beer from the same company as Budweiser, but it is from Belgium. It is a pale lager and a tad watery (kind of like Rolling Rock-though it does have much more taste than RR) but I enjoyed it and unlike the milk stout I tried, it probably won't go to waste. I still want to try a better Belgium (and an oatmeal stout) eventually but this will do for now. | |

| I'm making an attempt to offset my distataste for the milk stout with some chocolate chip brownies. It is actually working and may help me get accustomed to the stout. Or it just maybe prolongin the inevitable (giving up on stouts). | |

| Just so you know DB, Belgian ale doesn't have to come from Belgium. it's a style of beer just like a lager or stout. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
