Most of these brews are new to me; I'll post my opinions as I try them.

Trying the Avery Jawjacker pumpkin ale.

Where's the pumpkin??? It's not bad for a "spiced" ale but there's no pumpkin to be found. I claim false advertising on this one. Hell even the label depicts a pumpkin with mouth open and teeth showing.

Founder's Breakfast Stout

By definition, "breakfast" stouts contain coffee and this one definitely has that. But the label also says "double chocolate" and "oatmeal". While I taste some chocolate, the "roundness" usually imparted by oatmeal is totally absent. Still, a nice breakfast stout with the coffee flavor upfront and the chocolate in the background. Just not quite as good as I was hoping for.

Samuel Adams Thirteenth Hour

What a strange brew this is! It tastes like what it is; an oak-aged stout mixed with a Belgian-style ale. I'm not sure what I think yet. The fruitiness from the Belgian hops mixed with the chocolatey/coffee nature of a stout. Very weird but interesting taste; sort of like chocolate-covered fruit.

It's really a strange taste. I'm still not sure what I thought of it.

Tonight taking my first taste of Southern Tier's Mokah. Man, is this tasty! A lot like their Choklat stout but with some coffee notes. Lots of semi-sweet chocolate flavor. I should've picked up more of these yesterday!

EDIT: I just checked the ingredients list. "2-row caramel malt, chocolate malt, black malt, Jamaican roasted coffee, bittersweet Belgian chocolate..." MMMMM! and 11.2% ABV so it's definitely a "sipper".

That sounds really, really good!

Tapped another Southern Tier "Mokah" tonight. This stuff is simply excellent! A stout brewed with Belgian semi-sweet chocolate and Jamaican coffee. Ambrosia for me!

No complex intended FF. You like what you like; I like what I like. As I said if you peruse beeradvocate.com, they seem to love IPAs which I absolutely hate. But I know lots of people who love IPAs; beer beauty is in the tastebuds of the partaker.

yeah - I love lagers, which beeradvocate.com doesnt seem to thrilled about.

Fair enough. You seem to dig stouts and I can't really get into those at all. it's like drinking a cold cup of bitter coffee.
