Trust me, I only drink "real" beer.

I'm heavy into Belgian Quadrupels these days which typically weigh in at around 11% ABV. It's gotten to the point where anything under 8% ABV is a "session beer" for me.

But I agree with you, the typical American palate has no idea what beer actually tastes like.

I had some Kronenbourg 1664 from the Holy Grail here in Plano. Good stuff.

I have a new beer holy grail. It's made by a local brewery called Perennial. It's a mint chocolate stout said to taste like thin mint girl scout cookies. So far I've had no luck locating it other than at the brewery; supposedly there are 750 ml bottles out there but I haven't found any yet.

And I have a new favorite beer thanks to my PA cube neighbor. He'd told me about Southern Tier's Choklat before but since it's a seasonal I never found it. He just got back from PA and found a distributor there that had about 10 bottles of it. He sold 3 to me. OMG! This stuff tastes just like semi-sweet chocolate yet the finish reminds you that you're still drinking a beer. At 11% ABV, it's definitely a sipper but this is THE dessert beer on the planet.

Had a couple bottles of River Horse Lager this evening, tasty stuff, brewed right here in the Garden State:

I'm in the wrong thread for what I am about to drink, but what the heck - Catoctin Creek Rye Whisky and Sprite Zero.

I've been on an Amber kick lately and Widmer has what they call, Drop Top Amber Ale. Made in Portland and it's very good.

I'm still on a Belgian kick. I've been drinking Belgian dubbels, tripels and quads lately.

Tonight it's been Belgian Grand Crus...

I've liked what i've had of the Belgians but the price is a little high.

Some of them aren't too bad. One of the 750 ml "bombers" I picked up was 6.99. In fact, New Belgium makes a respectable Belgian Abbey ale that's around $8 a six pack (or roughly the same price as Sam Adams). It's not great but for a mass-produced beer, it's one of the best out there.

All I know is, every time I see the Foster's commercial, with the slogan, "Australian for beer", I think of that guy...

I mean the most famous beers taste like smurf poo. Budweise, Heineken, Paulaner, Foster's...i don't know why they're so famous.
Here in Germany we get Foster's but it's actually created in Hamburg (we have that age old strict Prussian Beer Law). Real Foster's is even worse, i don't know why it is so popular. Australia has some great beer like everything from Murrays (Murrays Wild Thing Imperial Stout is great) or Wig & Pen Imperial Stout...great stuff. It's the same everywhere, those who have the most money, those who advertise the most, sell the most. I wonder why Budweise, Miller, Corrs and that crap is popular in the USA, i wonder why Guinness is so popular in the UK, i wonder why Becks, Paulaner and Bitburger are so popular in Germany when they taste like crap.

Pretty much - I have a good friend from Australia and he won't drink it. It's crap beer - your friend is correct, it's the beast of Oz. He thinks it's funny that foster is marketed as a premium import in the US.

It's like Dos XX in Mexico (the Milwaukee's Best of Mexico). They don't drink Jose Cuervo Tequila either - they just export it to the rest of the world because it's crap tequila. And then we wonders why everyone outside of Mexico has a "tequila" story.... it's because they drank crap tequila!

Finishing my last two bottles of River Horse Lager this evening. That makes me sad.

Fortunately I have a six pack of Narragansett to follow up with.

No worries chewie. I've never had a Foster's but it can't possibly be worse than the mass-marketed swill we have in the US.

But based on the "Foster's Feedback" in this thread, I won't be adding tasting it to my Bucket List anytime soon.

I dont know - Fosters tastes pretty bland. The pub i was in when i was in texas has $1 buds and i couldnt even drink it for that price...

If Bud is the only beer available, I'm drinking water. Same thing only water tastes better.
