Have you tried the Schlafly's Christmas Ale yet King?

BTW, this baby I'm starting with tonight weighs in with 11% ABV. I've never had it before so I'll have to be careful.

nope. I caught the walking Pneumonia and havent had much of anything, let alone beer.

Finally found the Schlafly/Schnucks (a local grocery chain) Holiday Old English Ale collaboration yesterday so I spent 2 hours this morning hitting a bunch of the Schnucks in the area trying to find more. Apparently each store only gets a case or 2 but after hitting 5 stores I managed to round up 35 bottles of the stuff.

Yup! Funny thing is, same as last year, I hit the motherlode at the Chesterfield store. Like last year I figured the hoity, toity Chesterfield-ites are probably a good market for something like this. Sure enough I caught it just as they were stocking the shelves. I bought the 9 bottles already on the shelf and the unopened case that was still on the hand truck. So of the 2 cases that store was allotted, I bought 19.

That's right! Deprive those snobs in Chesterfield of stuff they wouldn't appreciate anyway.

My holiday season thus far has been disturbingly beer-free. I must do something to change that in the very near future.

King, you should be able to find this in your neck of the woods because Southern Tier is a Northeast brewery. Don't look for it in 6 packs though; it's sold in 650ml bottles. Absolutely great beer; the very definition of "dessert beer".

If you've ever had Creme Brulee as a dessert, this is the very essence of that in beer form. It might sound gross but trust me, it's awesome!

Well, after a long, LONG wait...my beer store finally called to tell me that Southern Tier's "Choklat" had come in. They put aside a case for me.

Went to pick it up today. When I asked how many cases they got in, he said 5. So I picked up a second case. And my buddy at work already had them put aside a case for him. So two guys wiped out 60% of their stock!

My beer-less holiday streak came to an end yesterday. Office mate gifted me with a 5 liter "mini keg" of Heineken. That oughta hold me ... for a day or two.

I now have a fully-stocked "beer cellar". Two cases of Southern Tier's "Choklat", 4 cases of Schlafly's Old English Ale, half a case of Southern Tier's "Creme Brulee" and a Sam Adams Winter Variety pack. Plus miscellaneous other beers that I'm "aging" before drinking.

I could get snowed in for months and not miss a beat, ....er beer.

I think i am feeling well enough to drive again. I might stop by the new place i found and see what they have in stock.

Well, for the holidays I picked up a half barrel of Natural Light (not a popular choice amongst all you beer snobs! ) because it's all I can really afford. I do like it though and I had too much last night. I was hurting a bit today

On my beer run this past Friday I splurged on a bottle of "Bourbon barrel-aged" Old Rasputin; I love regular Old Rasputin so I figured I'd give this a try.

Cracked it open tonight and though I love it, I don't know that I'd pay the $20 for a 16.9oz bottle again. The barrel aging definitely adds complexity to the taste but I don't think any beer is worth that price on a regular basis.

The Bitburger is quite good. I like the taste a lot. It is a very drinkable beer and i can see this going with any kind of cookout.

What variety of beer is that Bitburger?

bitburger is a pilsner.

I am hoping to break out the Schalfy's later.

I remember having Bitburger when I was in Germany back in the 80s. Good stuff. Haven't seen it on this side of the ocean in many years.

Looks like it's just me and Pabst Blue Ribbon for Christmas - my brother, who is usually my Christmas Eve drinkin' buddy, is "on the wagon" at the moment cuz he's on antibiotics. Oh well, more for me.

i got a 4 pack of tall boy cans (230 ML) for $5.50. I tried a new place in town after talking to some friends (who are, shall we say, not enlightened yet beer drinkers) and the place has a ton of stuff. It was almost overwhelming going in there to be honest. Here is a link to their site:

That place has Southern Tier's Oatmeal Stout! Highly recommended.
