Last night's Schlock-Tober Craptacular feature...
"Waxwork" - silly '80s horror comedy about a gang of spoiled rich California brats who visit a creepy wax museum, only to become part of the displays one by one. Havent' seen this one in years. I didn't remember it being as goofy/comedic as it was, but it had plenty of cool old-school creatures/monster effects and some decent dollops of gore. Perfect Schlock-Tober entertainment.
...nevermind...I was thinking of a different movie.

Halloween I
Halloween II (still classics all these years later)
The Children (lame 70's toxic-waste/zombie movie)
Nell (what a great movie)
Sleepy Hollow
Chopping Mall (Very cheesy 80's blood & guts movie. Really lame and doesn't hold up well, in my opinion)

That one's got a GREAT exploding-head scene, though...
As for me, last night's Schlock-Tober entry: "Waxwork II: Lost In Time"
Inferior sequel to "Waxwork" that leaned too hard on the "comedy" end of "horror/comedy" for me. By the 3/4 mark I almost turned it off but I figured what the hell, I'd already made it that far. Ignore, delete, destroy.

"Halloween III: Season of the Witch" -- yea, the "no Michael Myers" one. Despite the fact that it has no connections to the previous "Halloween" films, I've always kinda liked this flick. It's like a weird cocktail of creeping paranoid '50s horror/sci-fi films mixed with the synthesizer/special FX driven flicks of the '80s. Plus, Dan O'Herlihy is a freakin hoot as the evil Druid maskmaking guy.
"Halloween III" probably would have been more favorably received by horror geeks back in the day if it had been simply titled "Season of the Witch" without the "Halloween" tag.

I did not care for 'Halloween III: Season of the Witch' because it had no connection to the original two films but I have not seen it in over 20 years.

It's far from a "great" movie, but it's still way better than some of the later "Halloween" sequels with Michael Myers back in the driver's seat. I mean, didja see "Halloween 5" or "Halloween: Resurrection?" Ugh. Gimme "Season of the Witch" over either of them any day of the week.

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes (documentary)
-mostly interview segments interspersed with seriously odd imagery and bits and pieces of studio footage from the making of the album. Wilson spends the majority of the film discussing how much he hates iPods and the download culture.
Best segment is Wilson & Mikael Arkefelt hanging out and looking through Arkefelt's vinyl collection.
Interesting for serious fans, but the film itself is not essential.
Best part is the Bonus DVD has 6 extra audio tracks not on the CD.

Halloween 3 didn't bother me when it first came out, I ended up reading the "novelization" prior to the film being released, so I knew exactly what to expect.
But it felt cheap and cheesy to me as a 13 year old, when I re-watched it about 10 years ago it seemed even more flawed.
I don't really think any of the films in that series hold up very well aside from the first 2, and those seem a little threadbare these days as well.

Oh yea, "cheap and cheesy" is a good way to describe it. Fortunately I like cheap and cheesy.
The story is utterly ridiculous and it has plot holes you can drive a Mack truck through but I still watch the damn thing every year when it airs on TV. Must be that addictive "Silver Shamrock" TV Jingle.

I love Halloween III. Call me crazy, but I do. People just seem to not get over the fact that The Shape was not in it or about him. Halloween 2 was suppose to be the last film about Michael Myers, as he was suppose to burn to death and the end of 2. The plan was to have a new Halloween movie every year, but have it be about something new. The reaction to part III was too negative, so they brought Myers back. I saw part III in the theaters when it came out and I've had to defend it ever since. Most of the people who belong to the same horror message board that I do, really like this movie. The movie just FEELS like Halloween. I think its just misunderstood. It's my favorite of all the Halloween films.

I agree 100%. Had it just been called "Season Of The Witch" or something like that, I think the reception would have been much better. It's cheesy fun IMO.

If I recall, at one point they had planned to release it as , "SEASON OF THE WITCH" but wanted to avoid any confusion with the early Romero film of the same title...
And I have also heard the story Leatherface posted about the franchise's original agenda of a different film yearly...and all that.
Bottom line: I love HALLOWEEN III...It's cheesy, dumb...and perfect. It has boobs, bad music, bad acting, a woman getting a laser blast to the mouth, the best commercial jingle ever....and this guy.
