| Whoah. We need to slow down with the new picks. The only ones I got to so far were the Spiritual Beggars and Isole. |

Yeah kinda somewhere between Leaf Hound and Free! Not bad, friend. They seems to bear an overtly smallish semblance to the more mainstream, still sweet, sounds of Clutch! Check 'em go! http://www.myspace.com/clutchband |

I think I mentioned these guys in an earlier post. They are indeed talented. You might throw these guys in the funeral-doom sub-genre which I'm not as big a fan of mostly because of its super-depressing nature. But it's great music to open your veins to.

| Open thy veins. lol. Yeah, it's way too poppish for hardcore gents like myself and Svengo. My boy, Svengy ain't into no girly Pop noodlin' stuff. He wants ya ta bring on the busy, yo! When's the next 'The Ocean' joint dropping? That's what's up our alley, kid. Wait, are we still talking about Gentleman's Pistolas? |

| Who's familiar with an interweb site called A Shi__ing of Dooooom? That's two t's and five o's. They got a whole ____ of doom to check into. How about a relatively new outfit ouf of Madrid, Spain named GLOW? Pretty traditional Doom, but that's pretty much what I'm looking for. http://www.myspace.com/stillnastyhardrockband Still Nasty http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=63646005 Glow http://www.myspace.com/colourhaze Colour Haze |

| I think 'A Shi__ing of Doom' really sums up just how much doom that this Blogger is ready to dump in yer lap. 'Dump' being the operative word here. A conservative bloke would only go for a small smattering of Doom. But, a glutton like myself is going to go for the entire 'Shi__ing'. Doom isn't something you injest in small, dainty, lady-like servings anywhost. Right now, I'm checking out a Heart-Of-Metal member's fine Doomonic suggestion. I'm hearing the sludgy Spiritual Beggars' On Fire. Not bad. Not bad a'tall. |

| A band I'm really diggin' right now is the sludge/doom/whatever of Bison B.C. I think I've mentioned these guys before but i just got around to purchasing their last disc Quiet Earth.
This album is just full of great riff after great riff. I predict that their next disc will just be a monster of an album. Check 'em out!

| I'm checking out the Bison right now. I'll get back at cha. I think I might dig it. This is much more up my alley than most of what I've been hearing. A little bit of a Punk edge in there, I think. Have you got to the Sahg albums yet? You'd like them if you dig this stuff. I listened to more of the Spiritual Beggars. I do like 'em, but not ecstaticly so. For some reason, I liked Spain's Glow more. How about a band named Asunder? What about them, son? Of the new stuff, I dig dug Memory Garden, Isole, Lord Vicar and Forest of Shadows to varying degrees. Give me that kinda stuff. Traditional Doom and Sludgy Mud. But, there seems to be just way too much of this flarkin' Drone and Funeral schitt. My lord. Schitt is outright painful tp hear. I have to say that if I had to name a style within Doom/Sludge/Stoner/Post-Rock that I appreciate the most it would be have to be somewhere between The Ocean's Precambrian and Trouble's Simple Mind Condition. Muddled, but not befuddled. In between Intronaut's Prehistoricism and Sahg II. In between Mastodon and BLS. Muddled, but not befuddled. |

With all this kind of stuff that's shown up lately, we're bound to start hearing more bands that fall just right in that neighborhood.

| As I'm sure I've already mentioned about 100 times in various threads on the board...I like the retro sounding/"stoner" type bands far more than the traditional "doom" bands (God I hate these terms).
So, in no particular order my favorite bands of this genre are: Kyuss, Orange Goblin, Sleep, Unida, Spirit Caravan, The Obsessed, The Hidden Hand, Trouble, Witchcraft, Graveyard, Dead Man, Masters Of Reality, Witch, Spiritual Beggars, etc.
Here are bands that I like...but usually in very small doses: Cathedral, Candlemass, Acid King, Solitude Aeturnus, Electric Wizard, Place Of Skulls, etc.
Bands that I like but don't really fit into neat categories (I refuse to use the term "sludge" for anything other than old motor oil spilled on the ground): The Sword, High On Fire, Mastodon, Baroness, YOB, etc.
Instrumental bands that I REALLY like: Earthless, Pelican, Earth, Maserati, Tia Carrerra, SunnO))), etc. |

| Both, Big 'D' and Svengo, along with the dude with the Gojira avy, all know exactly what is up in the world of Doom/Sludge/Stoner and Post-Rock. Between the lot of yas, rests my tastes in these few sub-genres. I got an idea for a sitcom. I'm calling it Big 'D' and Svengo...and it's a variation on the cop and sidekick formula. I'm thinking of getting Burt Reynolds and Emannuel Lewis for the leads. Burt, as the Cop, and Manny Lew as the Corrections Officer with a bad fungal infection on his foot. During all the stake-out and shoot-out scenes, Manny Lew is seen running from his car to the base of the building with an exposed foot, and his sock and shoe in one hand. This provides for the humor aspect of the show. The foot is always out, and it's always growing something which requires minerals and electrolytes for its survival. What's the chances of NBS picking this one up? NBS is a local, public access cable station that is sometimes confused with a major network with similiar call letters. |

I've got their studio albums and love 'em but I'm also interested in the related stuff specifically the Desert Sessions discs. Is this stuff all written by just Josh Homme or do the other musicians contribute quite a bit? I notice that there's 10 volumes or so of this stuff and I would guess with a series this long it all can't be 100% gold. You got any recommendations on which are the better volumes? I'd appreciate any feedback you, Marc or anyone else has.

| I'm afraid I don't own any of the Desert Sessions discs, wish I did. I missed that particular boat because most of them came out during my decade long hiatus from listening/purchasing metal & rock. I have heard some of it and really liked what I've heard (some songs have since been re-arranged and recorded by Queens Of The Stone Age).
The idea of those sessions was for it to be a collaborative effort, most of them were co-written in the studio with whoever was around at the time. So they are stylistically all over the map...but I wouldn't expect anything less from Josh because he loves all different types of music. (In fact I helped him pick out his first John Coltrane CDs years ago) |

| I don't know much about Kyuss. Just that they remind me of cool feet touching down on the hot pavement of a truck stop as you gather up provisions for another trek down I-95 with a friend and a tall bottle of scotch. In short form, the band reminds of a road trip I once took. I am listening to Bison B.C. right now and they are very much one of these Stoner type bands that D is all into. I like 'em tho. They got a punky attitude about 'em. Sounds like they wanna fight. The one album that I can't promote any more stringently than I have is most definitely that Grayceon - This Grand Show. Schitt be smart, smart, smart, yo. Really original and innovative, this is. |

| I just may go ahead and pick up a couple of the discs. I've seen a few of 'em at some local used stores. I don't think it's too big of a risk as I like a pretty wide variety of pop/rock/metal/whatever. - detuned wrote:

That's cool, I used to work at a couple of music stores that some pretty well known musicians would frequent and I'd usually help 'em with some genres they weren't familiar with. Helping country musicians out with their electronic music selections was always interesting.
