Yet again.
Something I wouldn't mind getting from a previous wave would be the Tumbleweed s/t from '93. I have their EP, but it shows more promise than delivery. They do have that nice laid back stoner feel going though, but I understand they had stronger songs elsewhere.

I don't think there was a "movement" to begin with, this style of music has existed in some form or another non-stop since Sabbath first came out (Witchfinder General, St. Vitus, Trouble in the 80's - Kyuss, Sleep in the early 90's, etc).
The newer crop of bands (like the ones I mentioned a little earlier) have widened their scope and gone back to pre-Sabbath for their influences (13th Floor Elevators, etc) which is a nice change of pace. The hipster tag is just stupid, some moron fanzine writer had to have come up with that one.
P.S. - I still don't think The Sword belongs in this category.

That's right and that's why it never really goes away. I think the perception of it as a series of fads comes from people who aren't really enthusiasts, and are just reacting to the comings and goings of a few high profile bands.

I just used that "Hipster Metal" movement tag as a p*ss take......because all the hype that was coming from the music press and the silly label they dubbed it. Kinda like that hype over "Garage Rock Revival" in the early 00's......i remember quite a few people down here having a chuckle about that because they'd been playing that music for 25 odd years.

No doubt about it, the S/T by the way is from '92 not that it makes much difference. Thing is what sets Tumbleweed apart is the guys cut their teeth on 60's psych/garage like the Sonics and 13th Floor Elevators but were also entrenched in that whole 80's garage/pre grunge thing in Australia that rose up in the wake of Radio Birdman and the Saints. Add to it a heavy fixation with Black Sabbath and Buffalo and give it the easy going surfy coast vibe from were there from (Wollongong that is).....and you got Tumbleweed.
They have a ton of singles and EP's that are brilliant as well, their best song is Daddy Long Legs........

some Wolfmother news from Rolling Stone:
Five months after jettisoning his band’s drummer and bassist, Wolfmother’s lone remaining member Andrew Stockdale made his return to the stage with three new additions backing him. Performing under the temporary band name White Feather, Stockdale and his new Wolfmother played a pair of shows this weekend, one at the Valley Studios in Brisbane and the other at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory, according to ABC.au. The band’s sets included hits from Wolfmother’s only album (their 2005 self-titled debut) including “Woman” and “Joker & The Thief,” as well as a batch of new material. In August 2008 drummer Myles Heskett and bassist Chris Ross left Wolfmother, citing personal and musical differences with Stockdale, who kept control of the Wolfmother moniker. Ross and Heskett have since focused on their side project, reportedly called Doom Buggy. “A few things have happened,” Stockdale told the Sydney crowd this weekend. “I have got to say it’s so great just to be able to play some music and share the music — do what we know, do what we love.” The reconfigured Wolfmother will next play a gig on March 22nd at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Wolfmother’s spokeswoman said this weekend’s shows were essentially warm-up gigs for the new lineup before the Clipsal show, which would be a Wolfmother and not a White Feather concert. “Wolfmother is still Andrew’s thing, so it was just for the purposes of keeping it low-key,” the spokeswoman said, but she wouldn’t confirm if Stockdale’s new recruits are permanent members of the band.

Interesting. I like their cd. I don't know the band well enough to know who did all the song writing or how much the individual band members contributed, so I hope the addition of new members doesn't change the sound too much. I'd like to hear more from these guys.

I own their CD now, and I really dig it. Didn't think I would, but it grew on me.

Funny the use of that name "White Feather" for those warm up gigs........Black Feather were an old 70's Australian band that could be considered the grand pappies of Wolfmother's sound. Sahb would probably know them.
