| Rex is right. I've seen not a single person on any of the boards I frequent have anything but rave reviews of Lowe's performance in Candlemass. I like Messiah too...I really do...was watching a Candlemass DVD before work this morning as a matter of fact...but Lowe sounds amazing in the band. Give it a shot... |

| Listen to the two bonus tracks on the new album, where Lowe sings "Solitude" and "At The Gallows End" and tell me he does them better then Messiah. I cannot believe that people prefer Lowe to Messiah. There just isn't any contest at all. Messiah eats him for breakfast! That said, Lowe is doing a solid job on the album. He just ainæt no Marcolin. _________________ | |

Thankfully. :) But I've not heard the two bonus tracks. The album doesn't come out here till July 17 and I'm not paying for an import.

| In all honesty, they're 2 different vocal styles...Marcolin sings (very well) and Lowe "colors"...he add's vibe & mood to his vocals... I just like Lowe's style a little better...I take nothing away from Marcolin... |

| I'll check out the album eventually.
Thoughts:
My favorite Candlemass album is the debut anyway. I think it had the strongest songs and was the most consistent.
I tried to listen to SA on a few different occasions but I just found them to be really dull. I wish Candlemass had hired Tony Martin to replace Messiah, I think that would've been a good fit because Martin has a comparable range and had shown that he can write good vocal melodies too.
I see a lot of people who judge bands solely by their singers but I don't look at it that way. There are a lot of bands with talented, technical singers who write terrible songs. And if a band does something good a lot of people give 100% of the band's credit to the singer. And they always ask the singer what he wrote the lyrics about, always assuming that the singer is the one who wrote the lyrics, which isn't always true.
I think songwriting/guitar riffs is more important in metal music than vocal technique, hence why Black Sabbath are such a great legendary band and yet Ozzy is not anywhere near the strongest singer in rock/hard rock/metal music. It was the songwriting and guitar riffing that put them where they are.

| I know what you mean. Which SA did you hear? Their first 2 albums are very slow & epic....their later stuff is heavier & darker & they pick up the tempo a little more... |

| I asked around and someone told me their best album was "Into the Depths of Sorrow". I checked it out and gave it away. For me the problem wasn't the tempo, I felt like it had non-existent guitar riffs and vocal melodies. I didn't feel like the material was striking or memorable. I also checked out the sample that was available from their latest album and didn't care for that either. Their cover of "No More Tears" was well-done IMHO, but that was just a cover. | |

| What I find amazing is that people are actually saying things like, "I'll give it a shot, but I doubt it'll be good." How many Candlemass songs has Messiah written? |

Their cover of "No More Tears" was well-done IMHO, but that was just a cover. I'm not sure how anyone could think this. John Perez has written some killer, killer riffs! And Lowe comes up with some brilliant melodies and hooks. I find a good majority of doom to be boring, but even the slow SA songs are kept interesting because of Lowe's vocals and Perez' impressive guitar work. With that said, Marcolin and Lowe are definitely two different kinds of singers. Expecting songs Marcolin sung to sound the same with Lowe singing isn't a good habit. I think Lowe is a more diverse and powerful vocalist, but he is a different kind of vocalist. |

Not sure if he wrote his own vocal lines or not. His lines seemed different than Johan's so I suspect he had some sort of influence. I doubted it would be good mainly because the opinion seemed to be negative on two of the other boards I post on. Also because I thought his vocal lines were really boring on the SA album I had.

| Well, give the new C-Mass album a shot with an open mind if you can. I honestly think it blows the new SA album out of the water.
BTW, I'd say that "Beyond the Crimson Horizon" is SA's best album.

But I was hoping they at least would sound as good with the new singer. But in my opinion he does not do a good job on them, making both classic songs sound more dull, and less "magical". Again, I like the album, and Lowe does a great job on the new tracks. But I keep thinking it would have sounded even better with Messiah. The same thing hppened when Ripper took Barlow's job in IE. He does a great job, but I keep thinking that it would have sounded magical with Matt. _________________

| BLACK DWARF w/Lowe on vocals. Sounds pretty damn good to me. Messiah is by far a more energetic frontman, though. |

| I like Robert, but Messiah is the trademark vocalist for Candlemass, always will be, and Robert's voice is NOT as powerful as Eddie's! | |

| FYI: candlemass and I have an ongoing bickerfest that transcends time and cyperspace on who's the better singer, Messiah or Lowe.
I'm surprised it took you this long to respond. You must be getting old and tired just like Messiah's vocals. <--made myself laugh with that one.
