I was wrong. I really thought that Metallica would beat out AC/DC. Both albums are excellent, and among my faves of 2008. I will say this, if it helps hard rock/ heavy metal to sell in huge numbers again by doing "exclusive" deals with big name chain stores, then I am all for it. Peace.

true man. i cant really talk about the us side as i am not american but if america seems to have a commerical revival of metal then i would say it is a good thing

AC/DC is a much more mainstream commercial band (with Wal-Mart backing), so this is why I knew they'd get higher numbers.

I have no idea how many copies AC/DC has sold, but I heard on XM that Metallica went platinum in just 43 days. Pretty good in today's music market.

I can see where youre coming from there, but personally I myself also like AC/DC much better (Bon era mainly), but I really cant compare them musically because they're so different.

Man, we're soooo in agreement here.

Black Ice is actually the first Brian-era AC/DC I can get behind since Back In Black. I find all the others pretty spotty.

Unlike the Bon Scott albums which I love through and through.

Black Ice is actually the first Brian-era AC/DC I can get behind since Back In Black. I find all the others pretty spotty.

Unlike the Bon Scott albums which I love through and through.

I liked enough scattered songs from 80's AC/DC, where I picked up most of the individual albums. But, after Back In Black, most of its pretty forgettable with the exception of Fly On The Wall for me. Black Ice took me a few listens to get into, but I dig it now.

But, every Bon album I love, youd be hard pressed to find a song I didnt like on those albums

There are a few clunkers on Black Ice (like "Skies On Fire", man that song sucks!), but overall, this is the most enjoyable AC/DC I've heard since BIB.

And it's infinitely superior to the boring riffarama of Death Magnetic. That damn album has zero memorable melodies IMO whereas Black Ice has memorability all over the place.

My purchase of Death Boringetic officially marks the last album I will buy by Metallica. I'm done; they suck.

In contrast, Black Ice has rejuvenated my hope that AC/DC can still produce vital, rocking albums for years to come.

I agree completely. Whats funny is, I almost didnt give Black Ice a chance after I was so disappointed with Stiff Upper Lip.

And granted Metallica at least sounds GOOD again, but it just goes nowhere for me

Stiff Upper Lip (2000) - Barely sold over 1,000,000 copies in US in 8 years.

It would sell well regardless but I agree not as well if Walmart did not promote that disc to death.

Speaking of AC/DC and sells, according to Rolling Stone magazine ( the one with AC/DC on the cover) they have the second highest selling back catalog world wide, The Beatles is the only band who's back catalog sells more.

its good to see hard rock conquering the world with a number of best selling releases this year from slipknot, distrubed, metallica and ac/dc. to me death magnetic is far more essential than black ice which i find to be my least favourite ac/dc at the moment but i suspect i will need more time with it

the only song I didn't care for was anything goes, but only 1 clunker out of 15 is great.
