Sax, I downloaded the original recording of "Freedom" from the old Kramer's Korner King's X site YEARS ago. I have since lost that file. but of course, they re-recorded it on Ogre Tones (not as well as the original, IMO). Was the original recording on a single or something?
Freedom was an Ear Candy demo, along with I Change My Mind and Do [which I think both also turned up somewhere, but I'm blankin']. Their most famous unreleased tune is a Dogman demo called "Quality Control". dUg uses the f'inheimer [gasp!]. Every time I see them live, I always scream for that song. I actually can hear myself yelling "QUALITY CONTROL" and dUg chuckling at me, on one of my boots! haha

I'd take somebody yelling that over the guy who always seems to end up behind me yelling "Mission!!!" at the top of his lungs for the entire show. I love that song but hey if it ain't on the setlist taped to the stage floor it probably won't get played.

It's interesting, while King's X has the chops required to be a "progressive" band...I've never considered them to be one. To me they are just the best ROCK band on the planet. King's X is one of those wonderful groups that defies all attempts at categorization...they don't fit any...don't even try to put them into a box...because one doesn't exist that's large enough or the right shape.
That's one of the reasons that I would choose them as the last group I'd like to hear before I "check out". That and the fact they connect with me on a level that I didn't think was possible.
AFAIK, they've never re-recorded "I Change My Mind"...which is a shame because it's a great tune.

I wonder if anyone else here, maybe Uncle Sax, has heard the unofficial version of Ear Candy. The one that had a bit different mastering than the official release. It seemed to have a bit more low frequency if I remember correctly.

They recorded all their albums prior to going into the studio, they are releasing their original demos for the self-titled sometime this year. I assume they'll do that with Ear Candy as well at some point.
Although Doug has mentioned that it's a hard record for him to listen to because it's a "product of his self-loathing".

I'd say it's tied with Tapehead as their best since Dogman. However, I was hooked on XV at first spin! 10/10

I don't pretend to always understand Doug or waht goes on in that head of his, but the high quality of his his songwriting, musicianship, and vocals is undeniable!

Technically ( ), "Freedom" was recorded FOR Ear Candy and not included...it was a finished recording...so it was added as a B-side to the "A Box" CD single...

Hey Saxon, do you know if their Woodstock performance was ever professionally filmed, I have the VHS version of the highlights of Woodstock performances and they of course were not included.

Not sure. But my FULL show boot [with art] is of perfect soundboard quality, if you ever want to trade.

Ty is one of the most non-rock star types to actually be a rock star and he's amazing on the guitar. They may not have the name recognition of some but their fan base is rabid and they never fail to deliver. I have to go find Pleiades now.

Ty is a very grounded individual...all 3 guys are the most gracious "rock stars" I've ever met. They'll sit & talk to you all night if given the chance...and they're funny too...

DB. Based on the albums you have so far, here's where I would venture next:
Gretchen Goes To Nebraska (1989) Dogman (1994) XV (2008) Ogre Tones (2005) Manic Moonlight (2001) Please Come Home...Mr Bulbous (2000) Ear Candy (1996) Black Like Sunday (2003)
