Anyone on this forum a fan of Sevendust? You may not classify them as metal, but one listen to their new album Alpha will change your mind. They're sick. . . . . I'd love to discuss their music with y'all.

Big Sevendust fan. Indeed, Alpha is an excellent release. It's a bit less angry than "Next". Lajon sings more than he did on "Next" as well (as opposed to screaming). Not a whole lot in the way of guitar solos, but that's about par for the course in nu-metal, which Sevendust are. There are a few melodic solos here and there.

They incorporated a lot more double bass into this new album. Also, if you're into low-end riffs with some real groove to them, Alpha has some of the best I've heard. Also, they are pretty amazing in concert. I know they entered during the nu-metal "movement," but I have a hard time putting them in that category. When I think of nu-metal, I think of "rappy" style low talent bands like Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach. Sevendust are much different and a lot more talented. They actually sing and write quality melodies, etc.

Which is the reason I like them. :halford:

I like some Disturbed for the same reason.

I have their first cd and enjoy it, even though I'm not a Nu-metal fan really. It seems like Sevendust and Disturbed are the bands that metal guys can relate to the most.
I'm starting to feel like the term Nu-metal is unfortunate. I wish they had called it "Loud Rock" instead, so we wouldn't have to argue about it all the time.

"Hard Rock"- started with Hendrix and Cream etc.
"Heavy Metal"- started with Sabbath
"Punk Rock"- started with the Stooges
"Loud Rock"- started with Nirvana and Soundgarden

I'm not trying to make any definitive statments here about who started what.(Kinks, Black Monks, Green River and all that), just convey an Idea for labels that might facilitate better understanding. Also I think it's more accurate to label songs than bands..."Planet Caravan"; whether done by Sabbath or Pantera is really a prog song. Soundgarden playing "Into the Void" is metal; IMO.

great band.

Lajon has one of the best voices in modern metal today.

I classify Sevendust as modern metal because they arent Nu-Metal to me based on the fact that there is really no rap and when there S/t cd came out it was totally different then those nu-metal bands that were coming out at the same time. I like how they stick to there style but yet seem to keep me interested..

I haven't heard the last two. I'm a fan, but I've always felt the band wasn't consistent. Each album seems to be about 50% great songs and 50% mediocre songs. But when they're on, they're pretty damn good.

Oh, and I will say they put on a killer concert. I saw a few tours ago with 30 Seconds To Mars (first album is awesome).

ok i admit i have not heard a lot of them but i just think korn were the best nu-metal band and all the rest tried to cash in on their success. i would not even call korn a metal band

Please stop. Why even post an opinion when you know you don't know what you're talking about? Not trying to sound rude, but it just makes no sense to comment on things you don't know anything about.

Korn had a unique sound. No band sounds like them. Especially Sevendust.

Sevendust are ok. Their first couple of records are really good. Their newer records haven't impressed me as much.

Dude, you're 0 for 3 in this thread. Who has heard of Outworld? I have, for one. I'm sorry they don't have a bus that can pick you up at the Trend Depot. Why not give them a try? You may actually like them!

EDIT: 0 for 4.

Is Trend Depot that new store they put out there beside the Sam's Club off the turnpike? I've been meaning to go there. I'm glad to hear they have daily transportation.

well if you saw my cd collection mr Eyesore you would not be so quick to make nasty comments about band wagons.

right now i am listening to Ultimatum and i dont think they come under the banner of a trendy band. of course which bands are seen as trendy is a source of debate and opinion

ok so i have not heard of some obscure band called outworld i bought 57 cds last year and i believe you said you bought one thousand so quite frankly i cant compete witht that level of knowledge nor could i afford one thouasand cds. also i dont have the time to listen to that many but obviously you must do so thats fair play of course.

of course one of the good things about this forum is the abiltiy to find new bands to listen to which i do

oh dont forget youre way older than me so time really has worked against you there

ok i admit i did voice an opionion on something i did not know so what its not the capital crime you made out but i will apoligise for doing it so nerrrrrrrrrrrr
