| Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!
Been an Orioles fan since childhood. I have such great memories of going to games at Memorial Stadium. A part of my fandom actually died when they moved to Camden Yards. I just loved those 80's teams and personalities. I still have a bat that John Lowenstein handed me after breaking it during batting practice and a batting glove Al Bumbry gave me. Much different back then.

| Not a fan of america's past time - I'll go to the games (very rarely!), but not a huge fan. The Nationals have been here 3 years or so and I haven't been to a game yet! | |

| At my first ever game Eddie had a game winning hit and I became an instant fan. Even slept in my Oriole hat. In those days for me that Orioles Magic was real.
The sad thing is at one of the last games I attended at Camden Yards they had a Orioles Hall Of Fame ceremony before the game honoring several of the early eighties guys. I was like a kid again just having those names announced. They even took their positions in the field. I was standing on my seat. Of course most of the people there were too busy on their cell phones and eating their gourmet chicken to be bothered to care.

| That's awesome Jstate. I have relatives in the Baltimore and surrounding areas so my first games were in 1982. The stadium literally pounding and vibrating with "Eddie, Eddie, Eddie" made such an impression on my 8 year old mind that he was instantly my favorite. To this day I love that man! It's sounds stupid, but I feel blessed and lucky to have taken him as my favorite because he had such a long and unique career. Irony is that Ripken played, of course, but I have no memory of him. He was in the middle of a very good Rookie Of The Year season, but Murray was the man!
Sakata was at Short or 2nd that day...I remember him as well. Dempsey caught. I think I remember Storm Davis had a role that day. Great memories of that park. I never did get to go to Camden Yards as I was out of the house and trips to Baltimore waned as I got older.

| This is why I love baseball. Earlier in the week, my Cardinals, with the 4th best record in the majors, were swept AT HOME by the lowly Kansas City Royals. Next up: The team with the majors' best record. The Boston Red Sox. At Fenway. So what happens? The Cardinals win the first game 5-4 and today throw a pitcher who would be in the minors if not for all the injuries against Daisuke. The result? Cards win again 9-3. Go figure. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Yeah, baseball's a strange game like that. Guaranteed to win 40% and to lose 40%....the 20% in the middle is the kicker! | |

| I've been a Dodgers fan since I was a kid. My favorites were Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Dusty Baker, Bill Russell, Reggie Smith and Dave Lopes. I STILL love Steve Garvey--just look at my username.
Also, I study the players of the past. I read baseball history every night before I go to sleep. Some of the greats that stand out in my mind are Lloyd Waner, Ty Cobb, Willie Keeler, Tris Speaker, Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson. There's plenty more that I love, but those are pretty representative of the kind of player I like to study.
Baseball and metal are my number one and number two (insert joke here) hobbies.
Good thread. | |

| Nobody is giving the Dodgers a chance, and after watching game 1, I have no idea why. I'm not saying the Dodgers are better, just don't see how the Cubs are fovored by everybody. The pitching looks even(The Dodgers may even have a slight edge here), and with Manny, Russell Martin, Furcal and Eithier the lineups look pretty even to me. Huge cold blooded grand slam by Loney too. That shut that crowd up for the rest of the game. |

But my team for the post-season is Tampa Bay. They're the Cinderella story of the 2008 MLB season. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Dodgers in 7. I like LA's pitching more than Philly's BTW, the Cardinals won the same number of post season games this year as the Cubs did. And the Cardinals weren't even in the post-season. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I'm a Brewers fan, and the only thing I care about is the fact that the Cubs not only were beaten, but swept. Their fans have been talking crap the whole year, and basically stating destiny was on their side because it had been 100 years since their last World Series triumph. Cubs fans, all I have to say is this, "Get ready for another 100 years of futility". Like someone stated on ESPN's forums, "What was the Priest thinking of when he was blessing the Cubs dugout prior to game 1? You can't bless a condemned/cursed building". Hilarious! Being a neutral observer, but an avid baseball fan, I like the Dodgers over the Phillies. The "Manny" factor is the huge "X" factor here. They are a totally different ballclub, and Manny is undoubtedly the best playoff performer since that of Reggie Jackson. Just look at his stats in October. When it's all said and done, I think the Red Sox will beat the Angels, and Tampa Bay will beat the White Sox in 5. The Red Sox will narrowly defeat the Rays, due to their playoff inexperience. The Bosox against L.A for all the marbles, with great storylines to boot! | |
