Whoa! Sweet baby Ray, that is one heck of an archive!! I see a lot of stuff I sold off when I got rid of the bulk of my collection here, will be fun to re-read some of 'em. Thanx! it is awesome! Going back over GI Joe was great! _________________

| I came to a decision over the weekend... I'm going to try and sell my run of Amazing Spider-Man issues, which I held onto even after I got rid of the rest of my collection, as Spidey was "my boy" and those ishes were my pride & joy. ASM was the first book I started buying every month (circa 1983) and kept buying every month right up till I bailed out of the comic scene around 1994-95, so we're talking 10+ years of stuff. I've got all of Todd MacFarlane's run on the book, not to mention tons of other artists/writers. In addition to the 10+ year "complete run" I also have lots of other issues of the series from the 70s and early 80s, some Super Specials, Annuals, etc. ... even a couple of issues from the late 60s. It's gonna be a bummer to let them go but they've just been sitting up in the top of my closet without being read for quite a few years now and are just taking up space. If I have time I'm gonna call up a couple of comic stores in my area today and see if any of 'em might be interested in taking a look at 'em. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Freddy-if you have ASM #300 (Venom's first full appearance) that can fetch a decent price. I sold mine about 3-4 years ago on ebay and got around $70.00 for it. | |

| Yeah, before my paypal account was hacked I used to sell my old comics on ebay and was doing pretty well at that. I'll probably start up again soon. In my experience there aren't too many comics shops that still buy back issues, or if they do they're not going to give you a good price for them. Selling online is better for me. | |

Yup -- got that one. I forget the exact issue #'s off the top of my head but I think the "complete run" starts around #240 or so and lasts into the #330's or #340's somewhere. I have a bunch of stuff from the 200's (only a few issues missing here and there) so it's near-complete from that point. Then I have a lot of issues from the '70s. - sheets wrote:

Well, we'll see how it goes. I have never sold anything on eBay and I'm not sure if I have the time/patience to go that route. I tried selling off the bulk of my collection in "lots" and piece by piece during the late 90s and it was taking so long that eventually I just gave up and sold off much of what was left for cheap just to ge'em out of my house. I figure it can't hurt to make a couple of calls and see if I get any interest. If not, then maybe I'll consider the eBay route. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I just skimmed thru the ASM listings at this site: www.samruby.com and was surprised at the values listed for some of the ishes I have. Of course, the prices shown there are all "near mint" values and a lot of the older books I have are not "near mint." (though most of them, with a few exceptions, are in pretty darn good shape considering their age.) I started bagging & boarding all of my new issues as soon as I got'em off the comic shop rack in the mid 80s so those are all in fine shape. Still, it looks as if the grading scale for comic books has gotten a lot more nit-picky and anal compulsive since I got out of the game, so what I consider to be a "very good" or "near mint" book might not apply nowadays. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

As for the ASM's, I got a phone # for a comic book store not far from here, gonna try and give'em a call this PM sometime.... cool! Let us know how it works out. If it goes well, I may just start liquidating my stuff too. I got some wolverine, punisher, star wars, transformers, GI Joe among others that may go. _________________

I called and asked if they were buying back issues and the guy sez "Well, yeah, but right now we're only buying on the cheap" and sez they're only paying out 10 or 15 cents per book. (!) I told him what I've got and he said "Honestly, I'd love to look at those but I wouldn't be able to pay you anywhere near what they're worth right now." ...so I guess the Economic Crisis is taking its toll on our friendly neighborhood Comic Book Guys too! So I'm gonna have to look around a bit and try some other dealers... although there aren't many in my area (that I'm aware of) anymore. Dang! I thought I could come home and surprise the lil' woman with some extra CHA-CHING tonight! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Worst economic crisis... EVER! Seriously though, it's allot of work, but you're probably better off going to ebay or even Craigslist. The comic shops are gonna offer squat. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. It didn't hurt to try though. But I've never sold anything on eBay (or even bought anything there for that matter) so if I'm gonna go that route I'm gonna have to school myself first. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Hot damn. Who the hell's got that kind of $$$ laying around nowadays? According to the article, both seller and buyer were kept private. Wish I had that kind of f-you money that I could spend a million on a comic book. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I just read 'The Final Crisis' and It made no sense to me what so ever. I have no idea what the point of the story if Barry Allen is back alive, what did Sperman managed to accomplish if Batman is really dead.

I may not be a hardcore collector anymore but I still daydream about stumbling across a copy of Action #1 or some similarly hard to find, expensive comic (i.e. Batman #1, Detective Comics #27, Amazing Fantasy #15, etc.) stashed away in an old box at an estate auction or someplace similar... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
