| Remember those "Rock N Roll Comics" books from Revolutionary Comics that we were talkin' bout here a while back? Looks like a bunch of them are about to be reprinted in a series of graphic novels... 'Hard Rock Heroes' Cover Featuring OZZY OSBOURNE, SLASH Unveiled - Oct. 15, 2009 |
| MTV News has uploaded the cover for "Hard Rock Heroes", the first volume in a series of 10 bi-monthly "Rock 'N' Roll Comics" graphic novels that Bluewater Productions plans to re-publish.
"Hard Rock Heroes" is comprised by several biographical comics focusing on GUNS N' ROSES, METALLICA, MEGADETH, BLACK SABBATH and other heavy-rocking bands. It is described as "300 pages of comic book art and rock 'n' roll music joining together for your reading pleasure." The graphic novel features stories from many talented comic book creators, including Stuart Immonen ("Superman: End of the Century"), Mike Sagara ("Ninja High School"), Jay Allan Sanford ("Overheard in San Diego") and more.
This collector's item features a selection of biographical revolutionary "Rock 'N' Roll Comics", originally issued in the late '80s and early '90s. Several of these comics reportedly resulted in lawsuits against the company, including the ones about BON JOVI and MÖTLEY CRÜE.
A threatened suit by GUNS N' ROSES brought the comics and the publisher, Todd Loren, a lot of publicity that translated into huge sales for the line.
Retailing at $17.99, "Hard Rock Heroes" will feature an epilogue covering notable milestones that occurred after the issues' original release, such as the arrival of the long-delayed GUNS N' ROSES album "Chinese Democracy".

| The times have changed, what inspired lawsuits back in the late 80's/ early 90's is now looked at as comics that payed tribute to these bands, now these very same comic books serve as both a marketing tool and potential money making revuene for these same bands. Amazing. | |

| this thread was teh unknownz to me until this time.
Right now my pull is fairly wide, but sometimes hampered by lack of free funds.
I'm reading:
Vengeance of the Moon Knight...which is one of the best books going right now. There was nothing wrong IMO with the previous Moon Knight run but this one is garnering some new attention, which is good, being a huge fan of the character - in fact, MK is likely my favorite comic character period. Top-notch dark, introspective big action with a classic feel. This is also really the only Dark Reign related title I care about. Love DR as a concept but the plotting is like a snail in glue and there are just too many DR tie-ins to keep up with.
Doctor Voodoo: Avenger of the Supernatural...so Brother Voodoo was chosen by the Eye of Agomotto as the new Sorcerer Supreme after Dr. Strange fudges things in his advanced age in New Avengers. Odd choice, but this book is amazing so far - if you've been wanting a great mystical Marvel book like the classic Strange stuff, pick this one up.
Spider-Woman...Brian Michael Bendis' writing is hit-or-miss for me, this one is hit so far. Always loved Spider-Woman and it's great she has her own book again, re-establishing her after the Skrull chaos, and the art on this is close to perfection IMO.
I'm also going to be picking up the Realm of Kings one-shot, I try hard to keep up with the cosmic stories, as I love them, but there's Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, Darkhawk, the War of Kings stuff that just ended, so it's tough....but this has Quasar in the flesh and in the Fault and it just looks like a great sci-fi horror story.

I've always liked Moon Knight and while the last series was pretty good I thought it relied too heavily on the gore factor for my taste. I suppose I like the "old school" MK better (70s-80s) but I guess the one thing you can count on with this character is change because of his schizophrenic and multiple personality behavior.

Pick up the new one, the first issue at least. It's more in line with the old school, and you'll like the concept, great book.

Looks like the guy running this site is sure walking a fine line with regards to copyright infringement. his legal disclaimer that his site is in essence a "Library" online is an interesting argument, but ultimately a weak one. I would bet that it certainly wouldn't hold up in court.

| I was a big Spider Man fan in the 70's and early 80's, so I have some comics from back then. I started getting into comics again around 1992, but then my son was born and I couldn't afford the money or time. But during that time I got into The Tick, so I have most of what was issued in that series. | |

| Finally bought one of those Marvel Essential books after complaining how the black and white might make it hard to read. Moon Knight vol. 2 collecting issues #11-30 from Moench/Sienkiewicz, and the occasional Frank Miller cover. Great stuff. They should bring back Morpheus.. | |

| I saw a really cool big hardcover collection at Barnes & Noble last night. Something like "Classic Comics for Children". It was in the humor section and had all kinds of humor comics from the 30s, 40s and 50s featuring funny animals and the like. They even had a few Donald Duck stories in it. It's not my scene but it's really cool there's a collection like that and it would be a really cool gift for someone who group up reading "animal funnies". One great thing was that it capture the old timey feel of the books, they didn't restore and recolor to the point where you could tell modern technology touched it. Still had those color dots! | |

| Sounds cool...I was mainly into superheroes during my hardcore collecting days, but I still had a lot of Disney comics in my old collection, mostly Uncle Scrooge. The '40s-'60s Scrooge and Donald Duck stories by Carl Barks (a.k.a. "The Good Duck Artist") were absolutely fabulous stuff. When my brother and I were kids my Mom used to buy us a bunch of those cellophane "3-packs" of Whitman Comics (remember those?) whenever we went on a long car trip to keep us occupied, and that's how I got hooked on those Barks Duck stories (and comic books in general). During the late '80s/early 90s a new company called Gladstone Publishing started reprinting them again and I simply had to start adding them to my monthly pile. They brought back such great memories. I even had a fan letter printed in an issue of "Uncle Scrooge Adventures" when I was in college. That was a pretty big deal at the time, as I'd been writing letters to various comic books for years but had never gotten one printed. The guy who ran my comic shop always thought it was funny when I'd come up to the register with a pile of the usual Punisher, X-Men, Spawn, etc. issues, with the latest "Uncle Scrooge" reprint on top of the stack. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I remember getting three/two-packs of DC Comics back in the '80s from People Drugstore. Those were my very first comics. They had cut out trading cards with them. Wish I still had those. I was never into the Disney stuff, besides trying an issue or two of Roger Rabbit when that first came out. I was into Valiant's Nintendo books though, but they also seemed to get tossed into the coloring book section at K-Mart and I don't think they updated the merchandise much. I was a big Archie fan too. Not so much of the monthly comic, but I bought the (double) digests all the time. I only have one left. The cover is extremely beat up, but I still cherise it. | |

Oh yea, I had a crapload of Archies too. And I remember getting those 3-packs of DC comics as well. When I was about 9 years old my Dad went to the store before a trip to my Grandma's in upstate NY and came back with a couple of those, saying "Sorry guys, they didn't have any of the funny ones this time." So that was the first time I ever read Superman, Batman, etc. -- after the first glance through them I was like "Don't worry about it, Dad, this is GREAT!" and I started collecting superhero comics left and right. Most of the funny animal stuff got left in the dust, it suddenly didn't cut it anymore. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"
