I'm a sort of fan of the Crue, some good stuff up to Feelgood and a couple good songs after but I agree with Sentinel, more sizzle then steak. Then knew how to get themselves in the mags though.

Ouch...that's bad. I like when bands do cover tunes of unexpected tunes but this one was stillborn.

I'm one of the weirdo's that actually like their cover of Like A Virgin. Looking forward to the documentary also.

It's not a documentary. It looks like it'll be a fun B-grade adaptation tho.

I wish this band would have just gone away altogether. I mean, wasn't their tour called "The END" for a reason?
I actually think Vince Neil's Tattoos & Tequila album was better than anything Motley has done since the Corabi years, even if it was mostly covers.
These new songs have just been awful. The best thing they did in the 2000s was probably the Carnival tour where they played two sets--one earlier material and one later. Lots of gems in that setlist and the band was still in good form.

I thought Saints of Los Angeles was a good album and would've been a good way to cap-off their career. I'd agree that nothing they've released since then has really been worth while.

I liked "Saints" and have gone back to it many times. It seems that if I want some Motley, I go for one of the first 5 or Saints. I can't remember the last time I reached for anything else in the discography.

All the new songs are awful.
Who's brilliant idea was it to make a movie that covers the band's heyday, all the classic stuff, and then write a bunch of shitty modern-sounding songs? This is some of the worst crap they've ever written.

The movie hit Netflix today... Classic Rock seemed to like it, for whatever that's worth.
I'm hoping to check it out sometime this coming weekend.
Just saw the first 45m (my weekend started, yay!). It's sort of fun. Dumb, broad, everything I expected, rather GROSS, but colorful, like a carnival. Nothing at all informative or with depth about their career, but not necessary. Sort of like a comedic adaptation of a Wikipedia article.
The story is told in a straight fashion but there's an interesting point at the 30m mark (involving David Lee Roth!) where they admit to the story of meeting Doc McGhee [sp?] being apocryphal. It's filmed like a double-take, I really dug it.
Going back to the movie being gross (something the opening gag sets the stage for ewwwww), here's something interesting: turns out the director's bulk of previous work has been in the show Jackass. Guess how the gross-out scenes are handled, such as Ozzy's antics? Yup, just like Jackass stunts. It's almost like Johnny Knoxville is right there with the band, cheering on the many sordid acts of filth.
At best it has me engaged and I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Unsurprisingly, the indie/hipster music site "Stereogum" hated the movie. Their review of it is pretty damn funny though.
The comments section is comedy gold too. In addition to hating Motley Crue for their mere existence, they seem to think that anybody who dares to actually like this movie is a terrible person and they should feel bad about their life choices.

I have to honestly agree with the review; it's rather accurate. Except that I"m enjoying the movie and it's keeping me in somehow. Otherwise, it really is a mere notch above VH1 biopic material, if that.

The review made it sound like almost soft core porn at a lot of points...is that actually the case? I'm not sure I'm even going to bother watching this anymore.

I watched it last night.
The inconsistencies in the timeline are simple fixes and make me scratch my head as to why?

I agree with this big time. I just made mention of this somewhere else. The movie was tremendously average. It would have worked much better in an episode format. They could have done about 6 episodes for this and it would have made up for all the continuity weirdness.

I may watch it but it looks like a steaming pile of shit.
Rock/music bio pics are rarely ( actually never!) accurate. The best I have seen are 'Bohemian Rhapsody' 'Walk the Line' and 'Control' ( about Ian Curtis/Joy Division) that the director has knowledge of the artist and music, respects the audience, and make sure the music is front and center.
Others like 'The Doors' and 'Miles Ahead' are good films, but the person who's life is being depicted ( in this case Jim Morrison and Miles Davis) are the directors take on this person, and has no relation to the reality of who they were, expect in hyper-exaggerated version of their public image.
Most like the Hendrix film are mediocre, and usually don't have the right to use the music, but the scripts and directing are so clumsy, that is blessing.
I have known a few junkies in my life, and none of those motherf**kers kept a diary, hell they barely bathed, so I think alot of 'The Dirt' is probably bulls**t, but fun bulls**t to read.
Interesting how, with the political climate changing, some of the stories in the book where Nikki and Vince brag about abusing woman, he has back tracked on some of those stories while he is out there promoting the film.

Well I guess I am in the minority cuz' I liked the movie and it made me remember why I dug the Crue and also it sparked some flashbacks to that time and had me longing for those simple days of drifting from one couch to the next, one bar/club to another and from one young lady to her mom to her sister to her friend etc... Such simpler times...
Sure are there some inconsistencies, is it accurate? I don't know I wasn't there but as a whole it sure painted a picture of the band and the road they traveled.
