| Mine is If I Go Away. Saddest song ever written, imo.
I also like When the Crowds Are Gone and Sleep. |

| In The Dream. That song seriously brings tears everytime I hear it. Great song. |

| Tough choice. I could never decide, but it would be a toss up between "All That I Bleed" and "Alone You Breathe." Both songs are simply amazing, if you ask me. Goose bumps. The solo build-up in "All That I Bleed" is frickin' awesome! |

| Does Strange Wings count as a ballad? I would say probably not, but if it does, I would say that. If not, then When the Crowds Are Gone or Out on the Streets (the Sirens version, not the Fight For the Rock version) has my vote. | |

| I don't think it counts as one, either. It is the closest thing to a ballad on Hall of the Mountain King, though. | |

| Oof, that is hard. It'd either be Believe, When the Crowds Are Gone or the piano only Alone You Breathe. _________________ | |

| All of them. However my top three would probably be Alone You Breathe, Believe, and All I Bleed. Savatage writes (wrote?) some of the best ballads ever:
Strage Wings (it's one IMO) When The Crowds Are Gone In The Dream Out On The Streets Not What You See Anymore Summer's Rain Sleep Exit Music (very beautiful piano playing) A Little Too Far St. Patrick's If I Go Away Hear My Soul Somewhere In Time

Exactly! I also love the bonus track on the "From The Gutter To The Stage", entitled "This is Where you Should Be". _________________

| I'm probably alone in this crowd, but I love their cover of BADFINGER's "Day After Day" from the Fight for the Rock album. It's a very melancholy song that became even more so once Criss died.

| At the risk of bringing everybody down, I'm gonna say "Alone You Breathe" off of HANDFUL OF RAIN. I always thought it was a very touching song to begin with, but in January 1996 a good friend of mine passed away after a long bout with kidney disease and I found myself listening to that song A LOT as some sort of "sonic therapy" I guess you'd call it. I guess the lyrics simply "spoke" to me at that time and encapsulating everything I was going through emotionally. It was a big help in getting me over the tragedy and moving on. To this day, I can't listen to that song without tearing up and thinking about my friend. (although sometimes I think if she knew that, she'd probably slap me upside the head and say "get over it ya pansy," but that's just the kind of person she was, haha...)
When I saw Savatage in the summer of '96 I damn near cried like a little girl when they played that song, which would've been hella embarrassing in a club full of drunk metalheads. Thankfully I pulled it together... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I agree with you, FF. I love that song too, and both versions are great. I was so used to hearing Zak sing it on HoR, but the acoustic rendition that Kon gived is outstanding too. You can almost hear him on the brink of tears singing it! He was that way when I saw them at Wacken in '98 too, where he also sang it, looking up to the sky almost in tears. And so was I..... _________________ | |
