The only thing I can tell from their site is that this is a new studio album with Paul Rodgers on vocals.

I'll be picking it up. I'm one of those people that like Brian May and Paul Rodgers so much that I don't care if they call it Queen, King or Jack...I'm still buying it. There's a million people out there bitching about another Queen album without Mercury...but they can keep bitching while I crank it up.

I plan to pick it up also, I am huge Queen and Paul Rodgers fan, for some reason I don't have any issues with Paul Rodgers taking Freddie Mercury's place, I consider it almost a new band that is honoring the legacy of their respective careers. I also appreciate the fact they didn't try to hire someone who was simply going to try to ape Freddie Mercury.

If it has Brian May, it will always be Queen to me.

I havent picked this up but ive kind of been wanting to but then again I dont want to. I just checked it out on itunes and Paul Rodgers reminds me of Joe Lynn Turner and im not sure if thats a good or bad thing. He sounds ok with Queen but then again instead of trying to hit a high note he kind of holds back and it sounds like hes struggling or something. I really dont know what im talking about I just know that to me Pauls voice sounds a little off to me. Has anyone had a chance to actually listen to this album yet? Is it any good?

Here is a rumor I had not heard:
Queen guitarist Brian May has denied rumours that their collaboration with Free and Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers is over. Rumours have persisted that the collaboration will be brought to a close following the release of ‘The Cosmos Rocks’ but May has insisted that this isn’t the case: “Well, I don’t know where anyone got that idea — Roger (Taylor, drums) and Paul and myself haven’t made any decisions whatsoever about the future. We just need a rest!” Rumours of a split kicked into overdrive this week when Austrian website Österreich had claimed that last Saturday’s show in Rio de Janeiro would be their last.

Queen were huge in the US for most of the 70's til about 1982. One of the things that changed was Freddie Mercury's image, he went from having long hair to his now famous look of short hair and moustache and to alot of hard rock/metal fans he looked like a sterotypical merry guy. At the time being merry was not very accepted in the US. That being said I think that was a small miniority of fans, the main thing was the music. The Game was very popular but they went in a more commerical direction, the following album (excluding Flash Gordon) went even further away from their hard rock roots by having disco and dance influence overwhelm most of the material. This led hard rock fans in the US to abandon them. Queen was slowly winning back their audience in the US, 'The Works" did very well here, where the follow up 'Kinda of Magic' did not.
The last few years of the band's career they were making in roads in the US with both the Miracle and Inneundo doing very well, and I predict if Freddie Mercury hadnot gotten ill and toured the US that they would have had a come back in almost Aerosmith proportions. But we will never know.
What I do know, is that Queen is now very popular in the States, their back catalog sells very well here and they are considered by fans of heavy metal/hard rock as one of the great bands of the 70's mentioned in the same breathe as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and KISS. Popularity in the States has not only been restored but they are even more popular than when they were originally together.

Love Queen... Death On Two Legs one of my favorite tunes from them. Freddie Mercury is without a doubt one of the best rock frontmen ever. He as a class act too...keeping to himself throughout his illness. To boot, Queen is probably one of the most eduacated bands. To a nerdo like me, that is a plus.

I'll say. Brian May has a PhD in astrophysics.

For sure. Listening to him explaining the space-time concepts behind the song "39" goes to show he is a very bright man.

I got my first real taste of Queen with greatest I, II, & III (before I just new the radio hits) last night. Since I've been told the greatest hits are not the best representation I will try some of the classics mentioned since the first disc didn't do much for me. The 70s material on there was so so, I actually prefered the other disc (the third had some high points but also real low points-the rap version of Another One Bites The Dust was skipped after the first few seconds). The late 80s early 90s material interested me the most (the guitar work of Brian May was phenomenal-though that was true of the whole thing). So my next stop will be the first couple of albums (it will be a while though because I have already spent too much money-over $80 yesterday).

DB. The greatest hits collections are nice (especially for the 80's material), but many of the earlier Queen albums best songs were never released as singles. These album tracks often had Brian May's best guitar work as well. Here's my personal take on the original albums.
