| Has anyone else heard the new Queen song, "Say It's Not True"? Not anywhere near their best, but a good song nonetheless. | |

| Queen is one of my very favorite bands! If you've only heard their Greatest Hits discs, you don't really have a good idea of what they are like. It's kinda like if you judged Metallica by Nothing Else Matters and Hero of the Day Queen II is by far my favorite -- dark, heavy, progressive, emotional. But the cool thing is that unlike most prog, Queen were not nerdy -- they had plenty of glammy pomp. Where most prog bands sound technical, Queen sounds more emotional. Every album up to and including The Game is excellent... the 80's discs were hit or miss. There were a few great 80's tunes, like "I Want It All," "Was It All Worth It," "Princes of the Universe," and a few others. And yes, I have Innuendo, and it was a real return to form for the band. "The Hitman" is one of Queen's heaviest songs ever, and the title track is an epic prog rock masterpiece. For people more into the hard rock stuff, check out "Dead On Time" from Jazz, "Ogre Battle" from Queen II, "Was It All Worth It" from The Miracle, and "The Hitman" from Innuendo. There are plenty of other heavy tracks, but these will give you a good idea. For the people more into the prog, check out "The Prophet's Song" from A Night At The Opera, "March of the Black Queen" from Queen II, and "My Fairy King" from Queen. As far as the live discs -- Live in Montreal rocks...especially the new release. I grew up with the old version, where, in some places, you heard the sound from one night and saw the video from another night -- and was awful. They've fixed that now, with the new release, and it's excellent! This is Queen before they had a synth on stage, and is the earliest show available on DVD (although a quality show of Hyde Park '76 and The Rainbow '74 exist on film......and there's video footage of Hammersmith '75, and a few others). Live at the Bowl is very interesting. The band had a rough night. Brian breaks a string a few songs in, and switches to the infamous BHM replica guitar (which he hated, and later smashed out of frustration). They had some other problems during the show, too, plus the fact that they were touring for Hot Space (which Freddie actually sort of apologizes to the audience for). But I think it's still a great show, and an interesting part of Queen history. A little strange that they released this and not the Hyde Park footage... Wembley? I agree -- it's an incredible show! Especially when you consider that most people like 80's Queen waaaaay less than 70's Queen. The band still had the same charisma on stage (even if Brian May is wearing sweatpants...). On dvd Classic Albums: A Night At The Opera, there is footage from the Hyde Park show (the complete "Sweet Lady" track)... this DVD is great, anyway. They're in the studio breaking down the songs so you can hear the individual tracks. If you're familiar with "Good Company" from A Night At The Opera, then you've heard the "horn" part in the song... those are ALL guitars, and they isolate the tracks so you can hear just the guitar, and how Brian made it sound like all the different horns/bells/etc. He is a genius! So, yeah. I like Queen | |

He's right up there... I personally like Rob Halford better, but Freddie is certainly in my top 5... I think Queen is the better band; Halford is the better singer.

| I read somewhere that the only songs Rob Halford has on his Ipod is the whole Queen discography. |

| One of my favorite bands of all time. They don't make bands like that anymore. Truly unique, diverse and original in all ways. | |

Definately. Queen I (1973) is, was and always will be the epitome of what heavy metal is. Its the genre's greatest album.

Yes, I would to a certain extent. - defender_of_the_faith wrote:

Very nice. It would have been better if Jackson had shut his pie-hole and let Freddie sing the song, but I suppose that would not have been possible.

Agreed! Michael has been getting a lot of crap for the last decade or so, and in some cases rightfully so but, you can't deny how great of a singer he was/is. Freddie's greatness goes without saying.
